Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

I would recommend Chappies to anyone and everyone. The house is modern and was immaculate. It had everything that we needed and more. The hosts are great and the communication was excellent. If you are anywhere near Motueka, I suggest you put this at the top of your list.

all was perfect
A marvellous house. The kitchen is stocked with everything even some foodstuff and an ice making fridge. The electronic gadgets are fun, the Google Assistant and TV and sound in every room. We enjoyed the BBQ and the super Whirlpool. All is new and in excellent working order. There was a good washing machine and dryer. We enjoyed it very much in this comfortable and modern house and would recommend it 100%. There is an instruction manual but it is really easy to use all the machines. The bedsheets are super soft and the beds very comfortable.

The design of the house allowed a family with some members needing to sleep due to jet lag to rest, while the others carried on. Bedrooms at different ends of the building. All very smart modern and easy to use appliances. Very well equipped.

Comfortable beds, great hot tub, spacious, comfortable living room; very modern, well equipped kitchen, private, actually had screens for sliding glass doors - rare in New Zealand. Responsive host.

The house is super modern, beautiful and a joy to live in. It was a pleasure to meet the owner. Quiet neighbourhood away from the centre of Motueka. We loved the hot tub and the privacy of the outside space. Perfect for late night stargazing.

The house was clean, comfortable and spacious for our party of six with three large double bedrooms. Great facilities, hot tub was excellent, BBQ and huge TV was great to find. The hosts Leanne and Jason were very accommodating providing a cot for our toddler and helpful throughout our trip. Leanne and Jason were kind enough to provide a bottle of wine and coffee beans, very thoughtful and much appreciated. The location was great close to the local high street and a great base for exploring the Abel Tasman area. We would definitely stay again.

Chappies Place had everything we needed & more making for a luxurious stay. The house is flat which was a huge bonus as it made it easy for my elderly father to get around. Leanne (the host) was prompt in answering any questions we had. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and wouldn't hesitate to stay again if we make it back to Nelson.

The key lock system is OK if you've experienced using one before. I might have received a fact sheet (email) prior to date but looking back couldn't find it. Host kindly helped with entry. Had trouble with TV instructions. Didn't watch it in the end.
