Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Weird Chinese ornaments & terracotta warriors in the front yard. Broken TV. Smell in the hallway (from owners cooking food in their room).

Hallway set up for tea and coffee and microwave for everyone to use with no lounge area to chat with other guests or access to a kitchen. You were relegated to your room, hallway and shared bathroom and unable to explore the beautiful home and grounds.
The room was large and comfortable and the building was beautiful.

Only a shared microwave on a table in the foyer - no ability to manage or cook food which was a shame as we were on a budget. Ate in our room. There was a fridge and crockery and cutlery. I suggest small kitchenette where the table was and table and chairs where the couch was. There should be running water in the kitchen area even if it is in a tank. Perhaps like a caravan setup.
Lovely old villa …particularly excellent examples of tin ceilings!

Nothing in walking distance, room had very tall ceiling, hard to heat it
Super friendly staff. Shared bathrooms were normal house bathrooms (shower, toilet, sink in one room, with shower gels, shampoo, hair dryer)

There is a lingering & constant Chinese 5* spice smell in the corridor which was unpleasant. The TV in room didn't work.
Uuuuum, didn't have breakfast there. The room I stayed in was lovely, clean & roomy. It was an enjoyable stay & I may stay there again. There are two adjacent bathrooms which were well equipped and clean which made having a shared bathroom not a problem. I think I sighted 1 other guest in 4 days, despite the place being fully booked.

Some small Milk pottles for hot drinks would have been nice.
The room was spacious, comfortable bed, plenty of storage for clothes, clean bathroom's ,easy check in instructions, tea and coffee, water, station outside our room.

It was important to leave the shared bathrooms tidy, but if you opened the drawers looking for a hairdryer, the used bathroom utensils could make you sick. And they weren't from the guests

I understand why they may not want to provide a tv in room but it would have made my stay easier if I could have watched the news. I dont do programs on phone.
Location good for me but they advertised off street parking but there was none.

Like other comments, it really needs to be cleaner, and the place will get better ratings
The bed was comfy, the room quiet, I slept well which was my main objective. I very much appreciated that they changed the night I stayed, owners helpful.

Bathroom was pretty dirty and mouldy around the shower

Could really do with the use of the shared kitchen if only to wash up

Really nice part of town. Local shops to buy dinner from. I would stay again. Tv in room did not work. No bin in roon. Cutlery was dirty in hall way for tea and coffee use. Very good value for money. Room was very large.

I have nothing bad to say; this place was great.
The room was easy to access and the owner was very responsive to messages. The beds were comfy and teh room was clean. There was a TV with chrome cast and fast wifi. There was also cutlery, plates, a microwave and a kettle. The bathrooms were super clean and the showers were really nice. There was also a heater in the room, perfect fro South Island winters
