Great location with an amazing view, nice and close to the city center. The place had everything I needed (well equipped kitchen, showers, laundry, and cozy room) with a straightforward check in/out system and helpful information about sharing the space with others. I felt very safe here and definitely recommend :)

It was a bit hard to open the front door into the building.

It was better than other hostels that I have stayed in previously. It was like staying at home, away from home. I enjoyed it. Thank you. Great having breakfast supplied, and help yourself in the morning.

Driveway was difficult to navigate with a long vehicle due to a sharp steep turn. I never knew you had to reserve parking beforehand, until I read it in a review. No handbasin in the bathroom, so you had to clean teeth at basin in hallway, or go find another bathroom. The room I was in smelt abit musty.

Nice comfy lounge with a fantastic view. Kitchen setup was great, even had brekkie food and spreads etc to help yourself to. Was nice having a jug and fridge in room. Great heater in room. Short walk to town.

If you come on foot the steep slope can get challenging.

Everything is well organised from the check in to the instructions, to the kitchen and use of the facilities. No staff on site but not required either as everything you needed was there. The lounge had a lovely view over the city.

Not sure if the property mentions it's up a street drive with stairs and no lift. Thankfully I had a wonderful Uber driver who took my bag to my room

Having laundry facilities and breakfast food was very helpful. Lovely views of the inner harbour from the Hostel.

Too much use of industrial scent in cleaning the bedrooms. Even with keeping the window wide open for two days, it was still quite strong. Extremely noisy fridge in room.

Useful that there was a kitchen. Great view from the lounge. Bedroom ok.

Very cozy and nice place, stayed for Christmas and absolutely loved it. Quiet place but short walk to city center. Staff was very friendly. Nice and tidy kitchen, common room and bathrooms. The room itself was also very comfortable. Not very soundproof but didn’t bother me. Would definitely stay again!

The only minus is the lack of soundproofing between the rooms. This is understandably due to the old nature of the house. It was quiet though, and I slept really well for all 5 nights I stayed there. I’d definitely stay there again next time I visit this wonderful gem of a city.

This historic guesthouse is really beautiful, very clean and seems really well managed. The location up on the hill offers a great panoramic view of Dunedin and its harbour. Walking distance to the city/octagon. The staff are welcoming. The lady doing the gardening gave me a valuable historical briefing about the city, its growth and even its geology, which I quite enjoyed listening to. The one doing the cleaning was so polite and respectful. The parking lot was a great plus too!

I would have preferred a firmer bed (but it's hard to find firm beds in NZ), and I thought the owners could save money on heating by providing a newer, thicker duvet (but thin duvets also seem to be the norm in NZ accommodation). I wasn't happy with my pillows either (one much too thick, one very flat and filled with sneezy feathers) but in the morning I asked the staff member, who managed to find me an adequate one. Although bread and margarine were provided for breakfast toast, there wasn't much choice of spreads: peanut butter and Nutella, but no jam or marmalade. As other reviewers have mentioned, the driveway is very steep. (This is to be expected in Dunedin!). The airport shuttle bus doesn't come up to the door, and neither would my Uber driver! If you've got a lot of luggage or you're unfit, you'll need a car.

This place is a quiet, peaceful home away from home, in a big old house on a residential street, walking distance to the city centre and university. I was pleasantly surprised to find my room was fairly spacious and had a kitchenette and a washbasin. It also had a desk, an armchair, adequate storage, a good heater and a large openable window. The house has a nice communal lounge with a view over the city, a good kitchen with free breakfast food (cereals, rice, bread, milk, tea, etc), and plenty of clean functional bathrooms. It's self checkin, but a staff member is onsite every morning, including the weekend, and the manager is on call. It's very good value for the price.

Very comfortable, I was stressed about parking because it is limited but I really didn't need to worry about that, I had a space reserved early. Room had everything I needed, was very quiet. Loved the water pressure in the shower. There was a separate bin for recycling which I appreciate.
