How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewConvenient location for skiing at Mt. Dobson, just a 40-minute drive.
The bathroom and toilet in the middle made the room feel a bit damp.

Verified reviewWe didn't go in. I rang, no reply but they rang back. Rooms weren't ready yet. He said he would ring back. No.i rang him back and he said he would meet us at front door. In the end I was sick of being mucked around. When we first got there, there were signs out for bar open and something else. We there were no lights on in the pun. Very frustrating experience. We ended up in the Fairlie hotel. Very welcoming and friendly. So I wasted $129 on the other pub.

Verified reviewPrice and location . Shower was hot.
Room was cold. First room had no light bulb so they moved me. Second room had a blanket, needed as heater was ineffective. Picture on wall hid a hole in wall. Dining room had no heating. Bathroom was in disrepair but functional. Electric blanket had to be plugged in across room causing a hazard when getting out of bed

Verified reviewNothing.
The room temperature was dangerously low and well below acceptable health standards. There were no functioning heaters provided. When I raised this concern, I was told the bed had electric blankets. After further insistence, I was handed a visibly damaged and likely non-compliant white fan heater, which did little to improve the situation. Things were so bad that we drove to Geraldine to stay in a very nice motel. Additionally, the basin tap was leaking, adding to the overall neglect and discomfort. The name has grand hotel. There was nothing grand about it.

Verified reviewIt was cold, a big place and not enough heating to be warm and welcoming. The lock to my room locked me out with all my stuff in there , had to climb through the room next door onto a dodgy fire escape and climb in through my window, luckily I had opened it earlier. The toaster didn't work, there was no water , all the water jars were empty. The place is not healthy, it is not worth the $75 ( single room), it's a disgrace and should be closed and revamped. Being winter, it shouldn't be open👎👎👎
It all, it's gone downhill BIG time

Verified reviewThere is zero security. The door at the front and back is completely open, just a lock on the bedroom door. I had someone trying to get in my room at midnight! After I couldn't sleep as terrified who it was. The whole place needs a renovation. The bathrooms were dirty, the lounge awful and dirty. The bed is uncomfortable, and the duvet hadn't been cleaned. The light bulbs were missing. The owner messaged/ phoned before saying trun up whenever as unlocked. Basically, never stay here as awful! There's nothing good about it The toilet light didn't work, bathrooms were dirty.

Verified reviewLocation is perfect and very central
Room was unheated, it was very cold. No amenities in room (a basin and a window). The tiny oil heater was too small for the room, and the wheels were falling off. It wasn't obvious where/how to check in. This is not a complaint, but it was far more basic than I anticipated it would be.

Verified reviewIt was close to the town centre. It is a grand old hotel with a 5mtr stud and needs some upgrading. Bed was comfortable and the electric blanket on the bed was essential. Nice linen and towels.
Despite the heater in the room, it is still a very cold building especially with the outside temperature almost zero degrees and snow on the ground.

Verified reviewWas so dirty and run down, for $200 the beds were not even made. A threadbare doona was folded waiting to be used. Bathroom floor looked like it would collapse any moment. Very run down. Freezing cold inadequate heating. We walked in used the bathroom then decided to leave and stay elsewhere for the same price we paid here we got kitchen facilities and 2 separate bedrooms just down the road. Extremely disappointing as we have stayed at lovely historic venues before and had expected this to be the same. Photos advertised are very false or from years ago

Verified reviewI stayed one night at this hotel and didn’t see any receptionist or staff. The room was clean, although the hotel was very old — I don't think it has been renovated since 1850.
There was only one bathroom with two showers and two toilets for the entire floor. The walls were very thin, and I could hear the guest in the next room snoring.

Verified reviewNo breakfast offered. The evening meal was excellent, very generous servings, the bed was comfortable and the bedding was crisp and smelled of laundry soap.
The bathroom facilities were a bit rustic, but everything was clean. We were cold in the night and didn't locate the extra bedding until the morning. It would have been good if it had been where we could find it more easily.

Verified reviewThe property needs a real renovation. I didn’t feel comfortable staying here unfortunately. The room was cold all night despite the ‘heater’ being on and there was a definite damp smell to the room. I don’t think the price is an accurate reflection for what you get!
