We loved the quaint train car, and were pleasantly surprised how much room that was in the bathroom! There is a nice set up for coffee and tea, including a refrigerator and we had breakfast on our deck every morning. There’s a beautiful beach to walk down and it’s lovely and quiet. The only noise are the birds and the occasional train that goes by, which lends an air of authenticity. Beautifully appointed.

Hosts were really friendly, carriage welcoming, clean and cosy. There was a great attention to detail in the finishings inside and outside the carriage and the toilet and shower are inside. Located next to the beach was also a bonus.

A lovely spot, just minutes walk to the beach and the dolphins even treated us to a show! Wonderful hosts. A lovely place to stay for a night or weekend away.

Quite a drive to restaurants/cafes and no cooking facilities within accommodation.

The carriage had been beautifully restored/decorated and was full of train memorabilia. The inside of the carriage was very comfy and we loved the outdoor bath tub!

Everything was perfect.

We had a magical experience staying at the Hakupu carriages for my partners birthday. We love trains so it was just perfect and such a lovely surprise for him. The carriage was beautifully renovated with such attention to details and to the experience of those staying was of such a high standard. Thank you

It was a unique, authentic experience. Amazing reproduction of the carriage. Great hosts who could tell us about the local area and ensured a luxurious, comfortable, clean and private stay. When initially booking, we were not sure if others staying in other carriages, but they are the owner’s laundry and studio. Very private and exceptionally clean. The owners clearly take great pride in the carriage and the meticulous grounds. We wish we could have stayed longer! Bedford the British Bulldog was a bonus!!!

We have a wonderful time here, no criticisms :)

Absolutely perfect little get away and we wished we had longer to enjoy and explore. It was so much fun staying in an old railway caboose and noticing all the little details left over from its working life. The outdoor bath was a delight and such fun with the fairy lights and bubbles. The location was great and we wished we had more time to go over and explore the beach which was 2 mins away and maybe spot dolphins or whales. The icing on the cake was the breakfast, it was stunning and well thought out. We would stay here again and again.

Being unprepared to leave the fan on during an unusually hot night & being woken by the rumbling of a passing train in the middle of the night.

The carriage is a unique accommodation in a great location. Listening to the waves while star gazing from the outside bath, enjoying a glass of wine on the front deck, & sleeping in the comfortable bed, made for a perfect romantic getaway.

Not sure that it was value for money. Maybe $275 would be more appropriate

The fact that it was converted railway carriage sealed the deal for us. A storm hit on the first night and rain and wind continued through the next day but we were warm and snug in our little carriage. Plenty of NZ music to listen to and movies to watch. A trip down memory lane for both of us.

Loved our stay in Hapuku Carriages. We were looking for something a little different to the usual motel or hotel room and were not disappointed. So many authentic touches and provisions, right down to NZR tea cups! We opened the door slightly at night and could hear the ocean. Private outdoor bath was a highlight. Beautiful gardens an$ grounds to relax in with a cuppa or glass of wine. Hosts very friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend, we’ll be back.

If you need space, this isn’t the place for you. They did an excellent job of using the space they had to work with but it is a bit cramped.

The setting was amazing, there are few places where you have an ocean and mountain view. Loved the outdoor tub and star gazing. Such a cute idea to convert the train car.

Absolutely loved the wonderful curated space, the comfy bed, and the outdoor bath was an absolute standout - a perfect way to relax after a long drive. We'll be back for sure!
