How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe property was nice. Hotel rooms and bathroom nice. Swimming pool and spa lovely.
$16 per day for parking but it goes from the time you enter and 24 hours from there which can leave it inconvenient time for rebooking. I got fined $85 dollars after leaving for not booking a period. Which I was paid up to a late time and left early hours. Absolutely disgusting that you pay a lot of money for a hotel and then have to pay for parking on top of that. Aircon was making ticking noises through the night which was not resolved in my stay. I had to leave it off the entire time. I was told maintenance checked it and it was resolved which it wasn’t.

Verified reviewDisappointing Experience at a Supposed 5-Star Hotel Unfortunately, my recent stay at the Hilton Queenstown was far from the 5-star experience it claims to offer. Upon arrival, I was completely ignored by the man behind the front desk, who didn’t acknowledge me at all and continued what he was doing. I wasn’t assisted until the woman next to him finished checking in another guest, not exactly the welcome you expect from a Hilton. I had paid for two king rooms, but they couldn’t locate the second booking at first and ended up taking two separate deposits. On top of that, our rooms were placed on different floors with very different views, which was disappointing for a group booking. The beds themselves were comfortable, but the pillows were terrible, flat and unsupportive, which made sleeping difficult. Housekeeping didn’t show up until after 4:30pm, knocking to ask if we wanted the room serviced. At that point in the day, we were usually back from activities and getting ready to relax, it just felt like poor timing and planning for a hotel of this calibre. We booked a few activities through the concierge, and I have to say, the lady at the desk was wonderful, friendly, helpful, and one of the few highlights of the stay. After a cold day on the snow, we returned looking forward to a hot shower, only to find there was no hot water. An hour later (and another phone call initiated by us) we were informed the boiler was under repair. Five hours on, still no hot water, we made another phone call and the manager on duty told us she might not be able to find anyone to come fix it that night. There was no follow up, no updates, and not even an apology. By morning the hot water had returned, but the lack of communication and care was very disappointing. Overall, this stay felt like a premium price for a subpar experience. With better service, communication, and attention to detail, it could live up to its 5star label but in our experience, it missed the mark on too many...

Verified reviewEverything was amazing, I think it was the fact that we didn't spend long enough here. But will definitely be back.
For the amount of time we had spent here which was only a night, it wasn't long enough to enjoy all the amenities and things that Hilton had to offer. So don't just stay for one night.

Verified reviewLoved that it was across the lake and not in busy Queenstown. The water taxi made it easy to get to town or the marina. Toasty warm at all times. Great views. Nice walking trail. Great pool. Great restaurant
Room a bit dated. Carpet was rippling and nearly a trip hazard. Cupboard in front of fridge was broken. Room sold as Lakeview but has a whole section of rooms in front of it. Partial Lakeview more realistic

Verified reviewThe location is stunning. Loved that the rooms have both fireplace and bath. We enjoyed the ferry trips into town, and the Hilton restaurants, pool/hot tub room, lounge areas were luxurious. The staff were lovely and we felt loved on with the little extra details made for our wedding anniversary celebration. Would highly recommend!

Verified reviewStaff especially at front desk were wonderful. Bed and room King suite with outdoor spa was very comfortable.
Lack of minibar in room, in room coffee pod machine was not upto room standard and lack of in room dining options again not consistent with hotel/room quality.

Verified reviewThe resort is outside of the town so it’s better if you have a car to stay here. We had a relaxing stay. The rooms were large so it was comfortable. Reception was really nice and welcoming.
The pool wasn’t heated enough in comparison to the last Hilton we stayed at in Lake Taupo. The hotel does require a refresh.
