The room was clean The bathroom was clean

The bed was not particularly comfortable Breakfast was a little underwhelming

    Property response:

Sorry that you were the first to complain about that bed; or that breakfast consisting of quality local bread, a choice of butter or olive oil spread; 3 home-made preserves or free-range eggs plus a choice of 3 cereals, was underwhelming which actually speaks volumes of your own underwhelming-ness and inability to follow instructions regarding check-in times despite a reminder less than 24 hours beforehand. You were also upgraded to the better room of which you appeared ungrateful. You stated everything was clean but scored 5/10 for cleanliness.

Everything. Claire and Steve are very nice. We had some nice chat and some good laughs. Breakfast was an added bonus to start your day. Highly recommended.

I was traveling on my motorcycle and the place is good 200 meters from the road. And those 200 meters are not smooth tarmac and neither are they flat. Off road conditions but I managed on my sport tourer motorcycle. It was not a big issue in the end. But I can definitely see an inexperienced motorcycle rider struggling. But then again, how often they get people traveling on motorcycles. :-)

Didn't stay we left. Wish I'd read the 1 star reviews first and I never would have booked in the first place.

    Pretty much everything

    Property response:

You could at least be honest in your review. The house had just been cleaned and was spotless. You requested an early check-in at short notice when we were away from the property. We changed our plans to accommodate your request and messaged you back several times to which we had no response. Your communication skills appeared to disappear upon booking and you turned up nearly 2 hours after your requested early check-in with no advice given on the change of time. When I picked you up on this upon arrival you admitted you had not checked your phone. You clearly did not read any of the information provided as you went to the wrong address and had no idea of where to park as instructed clearly in the directions and obviously did not like being given short shrift on arrival due to your lack of communication skills and inconvenience you had caused. You took your Hunters Corner guest to the room for 20 minutes, messed up the bed and then left again with no communication, so you actually got what you booked the room for. Yet you placed untruths in your review because I berated you for your lack of communication and selfishness in not updating your arrival time.

Wonderful host, full of personality and genuinely wanting to spend time with her guests. Very comfortable bed and clean. Lovely home cooked 3 course dinner and plenty of options available for breakfast. Quiet countryside location with adorable dogs. Super helpful with giving me a lift back into the Hunua ranges area. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay thank you!!

Would be a nice touch if shampoo/conditioner were also provided :) Didn't realize the house was under renovation but that didn't bother me as it still had all the facilities I needed, just thought to mention as an FYI for anyone planning on booking.

    Property response:

Hi it was our pleasure. By the way toiletries are in the bathroom cupboard and internal renovations should be complete this week. Safe travels

The bedrooms were very comfortable & clean & beautifully appointed.

We had read that there was a shared kitchen & lounge/TV area, however when we arrived, we found the kitchen was being renovated & so neither the kitchen or lounge was available for our use. Instead we were told we could use the kitchen in an onsite campervan. There were broken uncooked eggs left in a frypan & sausages left in water on the stovetop in the campervan (for someone else to cook & eat), as well as food scraps on the dining table (for compost), dirty dishes in the sink & the waste bin was in the toilet! There were no wire screens on the windows on a warm night which meant insects invaded if we left the bedroom windows open.  In my opinion, the owner should not make the place available for bookings while the kitchen and lounge facilities are unavailable & there are workmen onsite who are going in & out of the premises. At the very least we should have received a courtesy message explaining the situation & offering a refund, as the accommodation was not as described on the booking site.

    Property response:

As guests you would score 0/10! The whole house had been cleaned as well as the campervan and when you saw the rooms you said “Wow what lovely rooms” so to post of score of 2.5 for cleanliness shows your integrity to the T. You gave 2.5 for comfort yet 10 for the bed, make your mind up. You had everything you needed, a full kitchen, a clean bathroom and clean bedrooms. At least be honest in your review. This is a family home NOT a motel and my property is a lot kinder on the pocket than most others in the area. I explained to you that the renovations were running behind due to circumstances out of my control but that full cooking and dining facilities were relocated to my perfectly ample campervan, to which you stated “we only need to use the microwave.” I was about to cook dinner for my partner and another person living at the property when you arrived, hence the “broken eggs” in the frying pan and sausages in water on the stove, which were then put on hold so YOU could use the facilities. I’m sorry you found other people’s food so abhorrent to visualise when you were not even using the hob. The food scraps on the table were there ready to go out to compost, but as I said you arrived right on dinner time and what I had on the table is my business not yours and was not left on the table for you and your family. To correct you, the waste bin was in the shower room, out of the way of people cooking. There were dirty dishes in the sink on your arrival because I was in the process of dealing with them when you arrived. I guess in your perfect world you’ve never experienced washing up! The lounge was available for use, I just had to rearrange the sofa, as it was shifted to allow the large oven to be transported through it, but you did not want to use it! This was explained to you. This is New Zealand NOT Australia and I do not know one house that has fly screens. This is a rural property and yes we have bugs in the countryside! You stated in your original but amended review that workmen were coming and going from the property. The workMAN was the gas fitter working late to fit my oven in the new kitchen, of which you had no need to go into the area where he was working and he did not affect or impinge on your stay. I had already told you that I had a long-term guest who had moved in AFTER your booking was made and he was staying on the campervan for that night, so you knew he was at the property. The most abhorrent thing you did, knowing he was also staying at the property, was when he got home from his work and was using the bathroom, YOU knocked on the door and asked him what he was doing! It is a shared bathroom. You had no rights doing that and as he told you, he had just finished work and was trying to have an uninterrupted shower and shave. Take a look at yourself before posting defamatory reviews.

As guests you would score 0/10! The whole house had been cleaned as well as the campervan and when you saw the rooms you said “Wow what lovely rooms” so to post of score of 2.5 for cleanliness shows your integrity to the T. You gave 2.… Show more

Craziest experience We have been travelling around the world and in nz for 6 weeks now, and this is the worst experiece we hever had. I usually never leave a negative review becuase im quite tolerant and is of the opinion «you get what you pay for». But i feel like i have to warn others, becuase the stay made me shaking and sad. To be objective: 1. The ad is lying saying its new renovated. This is ongoing, leaving the groud floor messy and dirty. 2. Workers/painters were there when we arrived and woke up and obvisely smelled like paint in the whole house. 3. The ad said it was a shared kitchen, but it was not functinal. The host said herself that it would take 1,5 hours to boil potatos. 4. It took time before we got any hot water in the shower + no shampoo 5. No ventilation at the bathroom - window had to be open - very cold. 6. No way to lock room. We would normally not care about these things, but the main problem is that the host is rude and we did not feel welcome at all. And i tell you why: 1. The first thing she says is not «welcome, or how are you», but «you arrive too early» as we were standing in the driveway. (At 15:50). 2. Warned us that the house was full with dust becuase of renovating and came up with excuses why the house was in bad condition. Was not humble about this issue. 3. Host walks around in a wardrobe 4. Guests cant walk in and out as you wish - you have to knock the door to enter. 5. Yelled at me saying i was respectless for bringing a box with dry food in the room and made me feel like i was the worst person in the world for doing so. 6. She screamed at me and i was shaking but quite tried to explain our experience, but she would let me talk, just slammed the door in my face. To sum up: you really should not rent out a place when its under renovation becuase then you dont get what you pay for. At least be honest and humble about the situation. You have to tip toe around in the house as there are strict rules and she is watching...

    Property response:

Oh come on you pair of entitled woke brats. You arrived early having admitted you had not read any of the information provided. I knew that because you were unaware of the check-in times and had already driven up the wrong driveway, proving that you had not bothered to read any instructions. I had just finished work, you arrived early and I tried to warn you that downstairs was covered in dust sheets but as my partner said, your room is ready and clean. You did not respond to any of the messages sent upon booking and were unaware of any information provided. You checked in early and then went out, could have gone to the waterfall and arrived later when everything would have been cleaned up after the tradies had left, but no, you had to come early. Upon your return I asked you if you wanted to cook as I had got everything out ready for you, but no you thought you'd take food and eat it in the bedroom :) despite notices asking politely that no food be taken upstairs and to be respectful and me telling you that no food was allowed upstairs. Rooms are not lockable because this is a family home, not a motel which actually due to your attitudes is probably the best place for you both, which I did tell you. The next morning upon checking out I caught you with 2 large bagfuls of food and that is why I was upset. Never was I yelling or shouting at you but telling you how disappointed I was that you had the audacity to break the house rules for your own benefit with no respect to me or my property. It is all new carpet upstairs and I do not want food and drink accidents upstairs. The hot water comes through very quickly and very hot because the bathroom is right next to the water tank so please be truthful. How can you say I am watching you, I go to bed at 8pm because I start work from home at 4-5am so yet another mistruth from you. Another guest told me you were in and out of the front door and up and down the stairs until past 11pm disrupting other guests staying. You were shaking because you had been caught out being disrespectful and lying and I told you I thought you were spoilt and entitled. At least you could be truthful. Three others staying here all commented that you were both "out of the box" i.e. not the norm. End of story. Be truthful at least. I have incidentally reported you for breaking house rules, which are there for everyone's benefit and blocked you from rebooking as I dont want to experience your kind of attitude. Also you took photos of people and property without consent and have posted them on other sites illegally
