How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewAwesome place to stay..on 21 hectare farm. Very quiet…could be described as being in the Shire! Comfortable studio, queen size bed, heated blankets, open concept with kitchen and sitting area. Everything for a continental breakfast is in the cupboard and refrigerator for you to use. Very clean with all necessities. Host David was happy to help and showed us around. He even came to advise us of bad weather coming to make sure we had heat. The place is 12 min to Hobbiton and 20 min to Waikato river for kayaking! Great location for what we wanted to see. Thank you Shona and David.

Verified reviewShona was the perfect host. The Studio was clean and cosy. Heater turned on before our arrival meant a toasty warm room to relax in after a cold, wet day. We loved the pantry staples for a quick meal if needed and consideration of travel limitations for food while on the road. Electric blankets added an extra touch of warmth to very comfortable beds during winter.

Verified reviewThe location was beautiful, the room was quite large, and generally comfortable.
However 2 downsides... Room was generally chilly and they had several heating options (standalone heater, heated bed later) but it was difficult to warm up the space and not cook in the bed. Bigger downside though, "breakfast" was quite an overstatement for toast and and a few toppings. Really needs something additional to sell it as the bare minimum for breakfast.
We are sorry you did not enjoy our unit. We provide cereals (3 types), peaches, milk, juice, toast and four types of spreads alongside an assortment of teas and coffees so I am not sure why you are saying there was only toast and spreads. As for heating it if you shut the curtains and blinds and put the heater on the unit warms up nicely.

Verified reviewThis farm lodge studio is a hidden gem. The studio is big, comfortable, equipped with everything you will need, in a beautiful location. The hosts are exceptional! They were very accommodating and friendly! Such a delight to meet them and chat about our lives and their lives. Our daughter loved seeing all the animals. Can’t recommend enough!

The little concrete patio was right next to a shed and outlook wasn't quite what we were expecting. The sunset was hidden by trees but if you walked up the driveway you could see it and it was beautiful. No Wifi and TV not working but this wasn't a problem for us.
Thank you for your review. If you check the profile it does not say there is WiFi, but free WiFi is available at the main house. There is a deck at the back of the unit where you could have viewed the sunset and yes It is a country location, quiet and relaxing and we make no apologies for that.

Thank you for your review. We are disappointed with your review, as we try to be good hosts and give you a comfortable environment. We try to be quiet in our own home but there is very little we can do about the wall. We can vaguely hear you also and in motels you can hear people next door. As for the deck we purposely don't use the area you are using, we use the far side of our house.

It wasn’t sound proof. Needed a bit of a vacuum but nothing major. Overall it very a very beautiful place.
Im sorry that it was not quite what you expected as to soundproof we try to kerp our noise to a minimum. That apartment is vacummed every change over.

Verified reviewIt is a rural property with great views especially of the sunset. 2 bedroom apartment with good sized dining and lounge. The owners also live on the property and have stocked it very thoughtfully e.g. ice in freezer, filtered water in fridge. Everything we needed was there. We got takeaway dinner and a bottle of wine and enjoyed watching the sunset with our drinks. The hosts are down to earth and nice. After many stays in hotels this was a nice change
The property is a bit remote about 15kms from the nearest town of Cambridge and the road, the last few hundred metres is unsealed.

Verified reviewWhat a lovely spot, kind of in the middle of a working farm. Our studio was very well appointed, we both slept well. The cows amused me in the morning. The toast was delicious. Very good.
