How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe property is out of this world! The hot tub is phenomenal. The jacuzzi bath was also brilliant! The views are incredible, the amenities are superb. Genuinely every aspect of our stay here surpassed all expectations. If you’re staying and wanting to do a few day trips in Abel Tasman, this will make the experience unforgettable!
We were warned and it’s completely fine, but the driveway is steep for anyone not confident in driving. But this is a small price to pay for a 10/10 Accomodation!

Verified reviewThe views at the Kea ridge lodge were absolutely stunning! Make sure you catch the sunset and sunrise when visiting, especially whilst lounging in the hot tub! Mark was a wonderful host and made us feel very welcome and was great to chat with. His kitchen was clean and well stocked with more than enough space for guests to store their food.
The place was great! It’s a little hard to find as it’s hidden away so make sure to look out for his street number on the main road. It has a cute bird cut out above it.

Verified reviewCouldn't use ensuite spa bath couldn't get jets to work.
hi Melanie as per our House manual it states not to use the bath other than a shower bath as jets do not work. we have an $18,000 Jacuzzi with jets for soaking! Also, one of our house rules is to report damage, one of the clips on the Jacuzzi has been broken , the toilet seat was pulled off one of its hinges and there was an extremely bad smell of urine which needed extra cleaning on the tiled walls. Extremely disappointed with these guests and the one thing we wish we could do on Booking.com is to leave our guests a review. And we will be seeking extra payment to cover these extra costs in time

Verified reviewWelcoming host, wonderful views and feeling of remoteness while being only 20 minutes away from Motueka and Abel Tasman! Room and bathroom were clean. We liked the very good kitchen and spaciuos shared space. We had no problems driving to the house with Suzuki Swift during good weather, but keep in mind that the driveway is steep. The location itself is on top of the hill of a very cool mountain pass. For me it was a bonus.

Driveway is very steep and a bit bumpy. Wasn’t much of a problem getting out though.

Verified reviewEverything! The location is a little remote and the driveway is a steep gravelroad with some sheep waiting or you from time to time, but it's absolutely worth the climb! The views are breathtaking! The jaccuzi on the terrace with a view down to Able Tasman NP is the best way to close a day. The shared kitchen and living area is huuuuuge with even a pool table included. There are also a washing maschine and a dryer you could use. And last but not least, the hosts are really lovely people you'd like to meet! This was our best stay in 3 weeks on the South Island. We'd definitely book again!
Heating the whole house is a little challenging if you're not used to light up wood in an oven and don't want to burn down other peoples homes. ;-).
Thanks for your review, but disappointing to be marked down on location, only 20mins to Motueka and sandwiched in between two National Parks and the gateway to Golden Bay! Thats what makes this place e so special, but as you say its "t's absolutely worth the climb" and yes our views are breathtaking!! Our wood burning Fireplace adequacy heats the whole home even on the coldest winter days, endless supply of stainable firewood too. And if you put the living room ceiling fans on this pulled the hot air back down from our high ceiling, with electrical blankets on all the king beds mean that you can stay cosy all night. All of these tips are in our house manual to help guests enjoy their stay. Thanks Mark

Verified reviewIt was a superb location - so peaceful with wonderful views. Our host, Mark, was not there so we had the entire beautiful house to ourselves. We soaked in the jacuzzi, washed clothes, cooked dinner in the well equipped kitchen, and spread out everything we owned to get ready for a 3-day tramp in Abel Tasman. I wish we could have stayed longer.
The driveway was a bit hard to navigate but well worth it.

Verified reviewIncredible views. Wonderful room and super comfy bed. Kitchen was well stocked. Since the shower was a tub/ shower combo our host let my husband use the master walk in shower (Thank you, Mark). The hot tub outside was nice and warm and the view from it incredible. Great place for star gazing.
We wanted to be outside of town so the distance from town was not an issue. It was well worth the drive! The driveway was a bit of a challenge in that there were short portions that were steep. I wished I had 4 wheel drive but made it up and down both days. Listen to the host and “stay wide”.
