Comfortable accommodation and great hospitality from the owner and staff of Kohatu Bar and Cafe. Nothing was too much trouble for Deb, the proprietor. Great cafe food and coffee available too.

A minor issue (which was advised) was traffic noise, but unavoidable in such a classic location (pub at cross roads). Wasn’t too bad, Ear plugs were supplied but not needed.

Everything was perfect

Feeling very much at home when arriving at Debbie's place with welcoming staff and excellent home cooked meals, the place is super clean, with a very comfy bed and lots of history, a cosy warm inviting environment to spend time in, could have easily stayed longer. Would definitely recommend Debbie's lovely home.

Location was great and the staff friendly and helpful. The breakfast was delicious and filled us up for biking. There is a charging station for your bikes which is a bonus. I would recommend Flat Rock as a good place to stay.

Steep access stairs when carrying up bags

This us an older building undergoing refurbishment. It us great but be prepared for some road noise and steep and.narrow stairs. Meal at attached Cafe excellent value

Nothing we didn't like

Modern comfortable spacious bedroom with separate bathroom, within period property. Ideally suited close to local attractions, cycle routes and National Parks. Accommodation above a well established Cafe, were we experienced great coffee, food and hospitality. Easily exceeded our expectations of remote accommodation and Cafe. Will definitely stay again and highly recommend.

Very friendly owner. Breakfast coffee included in the price. This place is actually a bar / restaurant so you can eat something at the evening and also for breakfast. I arrived late after official hours, but that wasn't a big problem as long as you communicate that and your hours are still reasonable. The building itself has its history!

Fantastic place to stay, Deb our hostess was very welcoming and looked after us very well. Lovely old pub that she is restoring, our room was very well set up with a comfortable bed, good shower and kept in style of the building and very well done. Has a cafe as part of the property and also facility for self contained campers.

Rode our bikes into this small crossroads, with a reservation at Kohatu, and hopes to just get rested. Instead we had a really great night here. The staff were fabulous, the food was great and the room was so nicely decorated and really comfortable. We felt like we’d stayed with family! Highly recommended.
