Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The bathrooms are shared, so I was a little concerned about how other guests used them, but I understand that’s part of staying at a guesthouse. Also, although it’s probably quite rare, it was -5°C during my stay—so it was honestly a bit cold! (haha)
The owner was incredibly kind, and I truly felt the warmth and charm of this guesthouse! I happened to stay on a rare day of heavy snowfall—my rental car got buried in the snow and many roads were closed in all directions. Despite the challenges, the owner helped me so much, and I’m deeply grateful for their support. I would definitely love to stay here again the next time I visit Lake Tekapo!

No kitchen so we have to go to town for dinner where there are not so many good options
The location was convenient, just a short drive from Lake Tekapo’s stunning shoreline, with easy parking for our car. The room was clean, cozy, and adequate for a short stay, though the shared bathroom and kitchen facilities were basic but OK. The nearby lake views were a highlight

Only negative was it could have done with a stove top, however this would not deter me from staying again as overall it was a great place to stay!
Really great location, easy check in/out, comfortable bed and bedroom, clean and nice touches such as towels and earplugs.

The shared kitchen was easier to prepare snacks then a full meal but as there was such a range of places to eat and picnic in Lake Tekapo this was not a problem, particularly as the hosts supplied masses of fresh cold water in a very large fridge and all washing up, plus cleaning of the shower room was done for guests.
The location was excellent for Lake Tekapo. You could easily walk into the village centre but the road location was very quiet with pleasant views of mountains and neighbours. The property was pristine and the hosts so helpful and friendly. The bed was very comfortable and there was masses of hot water for the shower/basin. The shared deck and indoor accommodation was a real plus. There were lots of excellent places to eat in the village and stunning views of the lake as you sipped coffee or a glass of wine!

In terms of value for money, we felt that, at the price, it would have been nice to have had a simple continental-style breakfast provided - as many other places we have stayed at in NZ have done.
Easy to get into the town centre (3 min drive - we could have walked it in 15). The shared bathroom proved no problem at all. Nice seating area for eating breakfast (not provided). Friendly host although we only met him very briefly.

A bedside table on both sides of the bed would have been handy but only a minor thing
Great location within walking distance of the lake, which on a clear night gives great views of the stars and Milky Way. Very clean and tidy. Nice to be able to sit out on the porch in the evening for a drink. Friendly host who took the time to chat to us. Easy to park right out the front. Fridge freezer to store food. Microwave and cutlery plates to heat up dinner.

The accomodation had everything we needed (great bed and bathroom)! Very short walk to the lake, which is about three streets away. Also friendly hosts. Would recommend for sure!

Strongly suggest that the room should be equipped with tissue and rubbish bin. Ps it’s quite inconvenient for cooking as a family as there are no stove and no kitchen sink🥲
Very beautiful and stylish layout, especially the dining area. The host family must be real artists! Really like their taste of the beddings. And the room is so warm that we were sweating at night!

We didn't realise there would be no kitchen sink and the toilet was in the shared bathroom. Would have felt more comfortable if allowed to lock the external entrance door. I wouldn't stay here alone (I had my husband with me). Would recommend to couples or family booking the entire accomodation together.
