Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews

Breakfast was disgusting. Only 1 stale cereal to choose from, no yoghurt jam or butter as offered. No tea only coffee.

Television could have been on opposite wall because to hard to watch where it was, if not television then bed
For the price we paid breakfast was enough fruit cereal and coffee certainly satisfying everything laid out very nicely

The Bathroom could be better refurbished.
It was Central and had your own Car Parks. The rooms were clean. Good People.

Given that it is a shared house, there is not as much privacy. Only one room has a private bathroom. The rest share the bathroom.
The house was very clean with plenty of toiletries and towels. It has a pretty big kitchen with everything you might need to prepare a meal. Rooms are as described on the webpage. You can have your dinner cooked for you on the premises as well. And it is DELICIOUS!

Kitchen could be equipped a bit better (more cutlery and utensils)
Nice place, it had everything we needed for one night. The location was good, 5min walk to countdown, 25min walk to the Whangarei Falls (or 10min by bus) The owner is so friendly, kind and helpful. He even gave us a lift to the intercity bus stop as we didn't have our own car.

Maybe I was worried for the carpet in the bathroom, it may get wet when you get out of the shower so it gets mouldy underneath?

Super clean and I'm a cleaner so am Uber fussy! Easy check in. Breakfast supplied. Possibly could gave had more shower gel etc but most people would take their own (I didn't!)

Golfers are very close by and can see into the rooms. Didn’t have soap in the bathroom

The kitchen could use more saucepans and a sharp knife. We were waiting for a turn of the saucepans even though there were elements available. The house is super clean and in good condition. The decor was dated and that might bother some people. I did not mind because it was clean, friendly and well located.
NewDay Whangarei was super clean, comfortable and close to Whangarei Falls and the Clapham Clock Museum. The museum was excellent. The othet guests were friendly, quiet and kind.

The house is at a traffic light of a very busy road, and as my room was facing the road, it was very noisy until about midnight

Needs a sign as I drive past and thought when I pulled up it was someone’s house Also slightly dated decor

1 shared bathroom wich has toilet inside. So if someone use shower than not possible to go to toilet.

Maybe a hand towel and soap in bathroom instead of just sanitiser would have been nice.
The bed was comfy! Felt safe and great that the door was open and we could come and go.

Pillows (thankfully we traveled with ours). There was shampoo and conditioner for shower, but not soap.
Value for money if you're staying one night. Quiet and clean. Easy check-in and host was responsive.

The doorbell did not work so I had to phone up to get let in. The room was not set up with two beds as booked, so we had to wait for furniture to be rearranged. No door to toilet/bathroom (just a curtain), no towel rail, no toilet paper.
Communal kitchen was well equipped with a nice sitting area with a golf course view.
