Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandPlease change the carpet in the hallways and lift. It needs a well-deserved upgrade. Be mindful of the cleanliness of the car park.
I was amazed by the size of the room. The facilities were very clean in the room. The locality of the hotel was great and the car park. Monster Chicken and the bar were just downstairs.

New ZealandCarpeting of hallways and furniture in the room really need renewing (iron burn on our sofa, hallway carpet looks very grubby and stained). There is always a big puddle at the doorway leading from the rooftop car park. This is dangerous and also your shoes get wet.
Hotel well placed for the central city and the University. Spacious, clean and kitchenette was great.

New ZealandCommunicating with the staff was next to impossible as the reception desk was often not occupied, and when it was English was not their first language, so trying to ask anything, make requests, etc. was extremely difficult. Trying to pay the bill was also a challenge with no one at reception and no one would answer the phone for several hours. Eventually found out they had just charged my card anyway, which was not what the booking stated, so that was frustrating.
The room was huge, warm and comfortable. Excellent shower! The location was pretty good for what I needed and had a great view of Hagley Park. Car parking was easy which is always welcome.

New ZealandThe pillowcase had a red mark on it, resembling blood or a stain, which made it seem like it hadn’t been changed. The towels were not replaced, and the bed was not made either when we went out.
The hotel was conveniently located close to Hagley Park and the Botanical Gardens. For me, it was one of the best spots for a stay—peaceful and not too crowded, yet still close to the main street. There were also restaurants on the ground floor and convenient stores nearby.

New ZealandThere was an issue with the credit card machine. All my cards worked before and after paying for our stay. We tried 3 cards and all methods, and the machine still wouldnt work. We ended up doing a bank transfer. Other than that, the wifi was kind of weird. Any time I connected to wifi, other people were able to control functions on my phone.
Location was great, staff were helpful, room was spacious and cozy.

New ZealandCarpark was tight to access, and there was a fair bit of rubbish around. Looked as though there may have been some homeless or other hanging around and would have felt uncomfortable accessing this at night. Traffic noise was quite loud during peak times

PortugalAfter a few hours on the road, I arrived at the hotel wondering… “Wait, is there no reception here?” A couple of loops around later, I spotted the parking area right at the back — where the reception was hiding all along. Check-in was quick and easy (in fact, so quick I almost had time to re-park the car in the lot next door — just kidding!). The room was huge, spotless, and comfortable. There was a mysterious noise that I never managed to figure out — maybe it depends on the room, maybe it’s part of the charm. When hunger struck, I discovered there’s a restaurant right in the building serving delicious Korean burgers and some of the best milkshakes I’ve ever had. Back to the room, I half-heartedly tried solving the mystery noise again… but the comfy bed and fresh linens won. Overall, a great balance between quality and price — and a stay full of little surprises.

New ZealandThe first night of our stay was not great as we had someone banging on doors to be let in and talking very loudly by our room. This was around 11.30 pm and went on for about 1 hour.
The good price and the great location. Also, appreciation the off-road parking.
