Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. This was our favourite stay in New Zealand! The hosts, Penny and Paul, were lovely. The suite is beautiful - clean and with everything you need. The second bed is behind a 4/5 wall which allows a bit of privacy. We loved the fruit from the property that Penny so generously shared with us. We had a great visit and ended up staying a second night.

Not a thing.
Just everything was perfect. Personable and kind Host waited up for us to arrive, welcomed us, and showed us into our accommodation. A bowl of tasty fruit was an unexpected extra. Tranquil and pleasantly green surroundings. A wonderful selection of breakfast foods provided. A later checkout is standard.

No kitchenette
My wife and I spent a couple of nights in the Queen room, which was pretty nice. Host Penny was very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Wonderful surroundings and a great place for some quiet time away. Breakfast was simple continental. Home made jam and the fresh plums were a treat Minor inconvenience was inability to connect wifi to our laptop (could have been an issue on our device though, as wifi on the phone worked seemlesly). Really the only thing which would be great to add is a small kitchenette.

We had a wonderful stay! The place was clean and well-maintained. Had everything we needed and nice complementary breakfast, which was a lovely touch. They even provided fresh fruits from their garden, which was delightful. The garden itself was stunning, and Penny (host) kindly invited us to take our daughter for a walk through it. We were very pleased with our experience and highly recommend this place.

No cooking facilities, but plenty of variety of meal options within a short drive.

Breakfast was lovely with home made quince jam to top it off. Hostess was excellent and the environment beautiful with the peacefulness surrounded by fruit trees.

A kitchenette with a sink would have been nice, although we coped just fine without it.
Lovely rural location, very quiet and comfortable. The hosts are a truly lovely couple; friendly but not intrusive, and generous too.

My only comment would be to block out or paint the small bathroom window that looks into the owners' hallway. There was a blind, but I would have felt more at ease if there was no window!
A quiet, attractive rural setting. Pretty garden outlook. Very quiet and well priced. Helpful, friendly hosts and thoughtful touches eg homemade jam, fruit bowl, lovely range of teas plus hot chocolate and coffee. A simple but perfectly adequate continental breakfast with fresh strawberries! Excellent hair and skin care products supplied in the spacious bathroom. The bed was very comfortable. All in all, it was a pretty, sunny and very comfortable spot to stay.

Nothing was a disappointment

This is a great place to stay. We were surprised when we arrived and found that we had been provided with bread, spreads etc so we could make breakfast. Also our hostess showed us a plum tree and told us to pick what we wanted. We were made to feel very welcome.
