Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaThere weren't any games in there. And being in the back unit behind the one in the main picture with the big deck, you can't really see the view at all unless you stand in the yard and look over the fence. We were lucky our friends were in the big apartment with the deck and we could share it but if you were travelling as a couple and staying in the back unit, theres no good easy view of sunset. Also, the heater needed an extension cord. The only PowerPoint in the main room was near the curtains, so we had to have the heater in the living room. Luckily, our friends had a sim you can call on because we had to call the host as we weren't given the information on how to access the unit before arrival, as it is self check in.
The room was spacious being a 2 bedroom, even though we only needed 1 room.

New ZealandI had the best sleep I have had in a long time. It was very quiet, warm and very accessible. Away from the hustle and bustle! The facilities were perfect for our needs. We enjoyed hanging out in the lounge area as there was plenty of room!

United StatesLimited view being behind the Rata building as described, able to use outside lawn space and seating at building for sunset though.
Very peaceful location with a short drive to Punakaiki Rocks. Tidy cottage with good supply in kitchen and great shower water pressure.

United StatesOur cottage was right behind another, so we didn't have a view from inside the place.
Very nice location for a trip up the Northwest coast of South Island. Close to beaches and Pancake Rocks. A good base to head further up the coast to Cape Foulwind where we saw the seals. It actually could take 4 people but we only had 2.

United StatesUnfortunately Rata Cottage, it rained hard the second night. I love the rain, but it knocked out Netflix (cable service). Bummer, but we tried talking to the property manager. She didn't come out to fix it. Poor Chris volunteered to assist, he was renting in RataView where the router/modem is kept. Anyway, we tried.
Barrytown coastal route 6 is phenomenal!! Awesome views, comfy cabin. We had Netflix one night. Close to Pancake Rocks, Conservation Visitor Center, both where awesome. Pancake Cafe had great food!! We loved our stay.

New ZealandWe had several people try to enter our place (the big lodge) while we were there, expecting it to be a community center, not another guest house. While we had only friendly encounters, it was a bit unnerving.
Amazing views, great space, and convenient, quiet location!

ItalyI was in the cottage behind Rataview, probably Rataview its better than the cottage. Place need a refurbish as furniture are bit old, not a major issue but it will be more welcoming, no tumble dryer was available, no exhaust suction at kitchen, no fan or air-conditioning and could not keep window open as there are those terrible blood sucker fly that itch for days after bite, suggest installation of mosquito nets at list in the kitchen and bedrooms
Location it magical, 20 min walk to nearest beach access, good base if plan to ride / walk near by Paparoa and other trails

FranceThe Rataview has a big deck overlooking the sea and offers great sunsets but the 2 bedrooms Rata cottage is located behind the Rataview and has no front seaview. No shops around, make sure you bring all you need with you. The only dinner option is at the Pancakes site.
Very pleasant stay, cottage is welcoming, all nice and clean.
