How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewChris and Lin were excellent bed and breakfast hosts. We enjoyed having breakfast with them each morning. They provided plenty of food and were keen to offer eggs, croissants, or coffee on request (Chris is even a certified barista). They helped us with laundry during our stay and they quickly identified something that we left behind, which we were able to retrieve after we left. They are both talented and wise people that anyone can learn a great deal from. During the day, our hosts gave us space and always respected privacy. Location-wise, this is a very good spot. A walk into the heart of the town is very doable. If you want to stay somewhere in Wanaka where you can meet two locals and learn from them, this is the place for you.

Verified reviewI sadly couldn’t make it to stay with the group, however there was nothing but positive feedback. The guys were happy, said breakfast was awesome and it was a great space. Thank you!

Verified reviewSpacious comfortable room with comfortable bed and sitting area. Delicious continental breakfast with homemade breads and preserves and granola. Enjoyed dining with our hosts and the other guests so we could share experiences. Ten minute walk to town which saved us from having to search for parking downtown when it was crowded. Hosts Chris and Lin were very helpful and friendly with suggestions of what to do in the Wanaka area.

Verified reviewThe accommodation exceeded our expectations, the room is very spacious, everything was clean and tidy, the facilities are absolutely adequate. It is very close to the lake and the town centre, including restaurants, only a few minutes' walk away. Chris and Lin were great hosts, they made a very good breakfast with very good coffee. This accommodation is highly recommended, thanks to Lin and Chris

Verified reviewThe room was clean and spacious. It wasn't clear enough in the listing that we were literally staying in a room in within the hosts house.
My husband and I were in town for a wedding. We asked for a late check out so we could enjoy a sleep in as we were away from our busy lives and 3 children. We were asked why we wanted a late check out. It felt like we were staying with our parents. We didn't take up the offer of breakfast as didn't need the small talk on our holiday. The whole experience was awkward and we felt like the listing wasn't clear about bc we wouldn't have booked had we known we were in a room in someone's house, needing to take our shoes off on entry, and sneak in late a night so we didn't wake anyone.
Quite clear from our website. From the beginning these guests were cross that they had booked a Bed and Breakfast and proceeded to make it feel as if it was our fault. Were rude and unpleasant.

Verified reviewLin and Chris are wonderful host and their breakfast were all handmade. It's continental but so delicious. And Chris made lovely flat white coffee (with a heart shape on the top). Walking distance to town in a very quiet Cul de sac location.
Nothing.

Verified reviewVery clean, modern and spacious room
Breakfast was continental style and very nice but would be too repetitive after more than 2 days. Need to enter the house to access your room , no separate access so it feels a little invasive. Walk to the far end of the strip is a little long and uphill on the return. Close to the near shops.

Verified reviewWalkable to town, very friendly and helpful hosts, comfortable bed and good shower
We very much felt like we were staying in a bedroom in somebody’s house. Our bed was under the low point of a slanted roof and my partner still has marks on his head from standing up from rested position. Having to remove our shoes upon entering the house was annoying. Breakfasts of yogurt and cereal were good but could have been more varied with some egg choices, pancakes etc.
Sorry that your stay wasn’t what you were expecting.I suggest you should stay in a hotel and not a B and B in future. Our facilities are private and unobtrusive, and most people seem happy to stay in our home. Our breakfasts are varied and include croissants and homemade bread/toast with good coffee. We do not do a cooked breakfast.

Verified reviewOur hosts Mr and Mrs Tempest were extremely friendly, helpful, and welcoming. We had breakfast with produces right from their garden. There was home made jam, granola, coffee, and bread. We had a wonderful time.
Nothing whatsoever.
