Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

Cupboards and drawers could do with a clean. Beginning to look a bit tired - may be end of season.

No black out curtains in the rooms, pumps are a little noisy but being a rural area there is likely not much they can do about it.
Great sized house, with a lovely outlook on the river. Modern amenities and everything you need to cook. If you're looking for a comfortable home to holiday in this is a great option. We visited with my wife and 7 month old.

The bed was a bit soft. I think it’s one of those foam mattresses that don’t provide good support. I’d suggest investing in a quality traditional reasonably firm mattress.
Beautiful apartment! Very good location. Walking trail behind the house that goes along the water’s edge. Easy access for swimming in the water nearby. Hot Water Beach. Cathedral Cove.

Our whole family loved our stay. Perfect location backing right onto the water and an easy stroll to the beach (comfortable stroll to the local shops). The bach was clean, comfortable and well provisioned, including kayaks for the estuary and a shovel for hot water beach. Hope to visit again soon!

The kitchen had everything except a french press, which we found everywhere else we stayed in New Zealand. The second bedroom had no socket in which to plug in the fan.
The Admiral is a lovely home on an estuary leading to a beautiful beach. This home has most everything you could need for an enjoyable and comfortable stay. We loved our time at the beach watching the birds and picking up some pretty shells.

We stayed at The Admiral for two nights. There were 4 of us (2 couples). The Admiral was the nicest, best equipped house we've ever stayed in. In fact, I think it is fancier than my own house! Both bedrooms were roomy with en suite bathrooms. The kitchen was large and well furnished. Outdoor space had comfortable furniture. Washer and dryer available. The environment was beautiful, abutting an estuary/beach/stream with lovely views and walking paths. It even had kayaks, outdoor grill, and a hot tub that we didn't use. Access to Whitianga by ferry (walkers only). In addition, the hosts were gracious enough to accommodate several date changes, allowing us to stay for two nights only (despite the original 3-night minimum). John was easily reachable by phone/text. Thank you for your flexibililty!

The property needs some maintenance - some blinds did not work or were missing in the living room making it extremely hot with NO A/C:( The second bedroom was extremely hot with again no A/C and only a small louvre window for air. The housekeeper did bring a second fan which was a blessing but still needs more airflow or a/c options for more comfort especially in the summer months. There was also an odour in the second bathroom that was hard to ignore. Most of the cabinets in the kitchen did not work which was very frustrating - latches need repairing but other than that it was a well appointed kitchen overall.
The home is a wonderful architecturally designed home with an amazing outlook and location. Well appointed home. Having beach towels was a bonus thank you.
