Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandWhat a welcome Tony gave us! A beautiful old building being given a new life! The living area has been refurbished to a high standard and the bedrooms are beautiful! This is a B n B and well worth a visit. We were treated to a wonderful continental breakfast in the morning which included hot croissants and fresh fruit! If I stay in Gisborne again I'll definitely stay here!

United KingdomNo complaints.
What a great characterful place to stay. Tony who owns the property was a great host making us feel very welcome. We were in one of the upstairs rooms which had a great comfy bed. There was a good selection of food on offer for breakfast which was way beyond what we expected. We found Tony very knowledgeable on all things in the locality and places we intended to visit whilst on our holiday. Thank you!

IrelandShe looks a little rough on the outside but once you step inside you realise this is a loved and hearty home which a lot of aroha is being poured into constantly
Big comfortable bed with soft sheets (the dream after a bout of camping) - we also had a delicious breakfast of pastries and granola which had us ready for the day!

New ZealandThe superior rooms were not easily accessible to guests with mobility limitations. We could not comfortably use the room we had booked. Shared bathroom facilities were nevertheless very clean and well appointed.
The host (Tony) was charming and hospitable. The breakfast was fabulous.

AustraliaWould not be suitable if you were incredibly fussy, or a control freak perfectionist with tickets on yourself. After all, the front doos steps have not yet been marble tiled. The front door is original 19th centuary, the drive is not concrete, and the topiary does not exist. But the bird life is great.
An old building with plenty of history, being slowly renovated into period perfection. Genuine kauri floorboards restored - please remove shoes to protect the. Surface as Krause is easily marked. 4G Wifi. Lots of character, new accomodation in renovated doubled room - no aircon but not needed - and new (shared) unisex facilities across hall. We were the only guests. At present would only take 2 couples or similar. Great if you want to interact with mine host who is a great raconteur. Free breakfast with choice of food. Grounds still need some landscaping completed, but charmingly rustic; besides you don’t usually spend too much time outside for an overnighter . Ponds with ducks, and ducklings just hatched, native pigeons, raptors, and other birds. Quiet country club place. Close to town and sightseeing, and food places. Very relaxing.

New ZealandNot enough bathrooms if you were sharing with people you did not know. We were fine as we were the only guests on the weekend we stayed, but having more bathrooms for the amount of bedrooms (and price) would be ideal. If you are going with family members though, and happy to share a bathroom, it would suffice. The outside area was very neglected and not up to the pics on the website and the back was a complete construction zone. I am aware that the cyclone caused damage but the area was still in much need of repair. It is a little far out from town and you need to drive to get there but the area is peaceful and quite beautiful with the trees as a backdrop.
The Breakfast was wonderful. Continental breakfast as good as I have ever had in top restaurants. Pauline, The on site manager was amazing. Went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. The house was beautiful with all the historic history and rooms you could wish for and the big billiards table was fantastic. The bedroom we originally booked was downstairs but as we were the only guests on this weekend we took the option to go upstairs with our own bathroom, as recommended by Pauline. (Did I say she was great!) It was a great option for us and worked really well!

United KingdomWhat a lovely welcome from our personable and friendly host! From the moment we stepped in, Tony could not do enough for us. The bed was fabulously comfortable and we overlooked the garden so could watch kingfishers and other wildlife going about their routine. Breakfast included, whilst other meals necessitated a short drive to restaurants in town. This is a traditional B&B so all the guests sat around the same table for breakfast which was a great opportunity to meet international travellers or more local folk on work trips. Bathroom facilities were great, shared with 2 other guest rooms. On check-out day, we travelled around the east cape and later that evening, we received a call from Tony checking that all had gone well. Nice touch! We stayed one night and would definitely return.

New Zealandthere were no dislikes, the only suggestion I would have is a lock on the bathroom door.
The property was not completely finished however this detract from the charm, character and comfort of our stay. The location was very close to town with a rural outlook.
