My only slight niggle was there were not many plates available, although there were plenty of bowls!

Rooms were spacious and had plenty of storage. One of the drawers jammed shut but staff fixed it for me within 5 minutes. Great communication from staff; very helpful and positive. Loved the emphasis on quiet time from 10pm. Kitchen facilities were good, and plenty of communal areas to relax in. The library shelf was a nice touch! Everything was really clean and fixtures were a much higher standard than I'd expect from a hostel. We had an en-suite bathroom which was lovely; a great shower with plenty of hot water and even access to a hairdryer. Really great location for many attractions; Hagley Park, Botanical Gardens, Cable car stops, shopping areas, food venues etc and close to the bus interchange which made travel from the airport very straightforward.

Diego was incredibly helpful and thoughtful in arranging a room best suited for my sleeping needs and his level of customer service was the best on the South Island (and even in Australia) that I've experienced! The bedding and room was exceptionally clean, and the property very well managed. Definitely make sure you book here!

Additional heating would have been great - the wall heating was a bit lacklustre. Luckily the bedding was warm enough.

I checked in late and was sent an email about instructions of getting my room card. This was straightforward and checking out the next morning was also easy (just had to drop off the room card). Nice warm place on arrival. Room was clean and appropriate for the price value. Interesting they provided a cooling fan though when its winter and very cold... Bed was comfortable. Overall, good value for money.

The 2-bed/3-bed rooms advertised should include ‘mixed gender’ as it did not specify on booking.com I was shocked to find a male come into the room at 7pm! Luckily the staff placed me in another room with a Japanese girl not long after that. Similar thing happened at Haka House Aoraki - the staff kindly placed me in a female-only dorm.

The rooms were very squishy which I guess is expected with a backpackers. Someone had left clothes in our room as well and they hadn't been taken before we came.

It was very close to the city which was great. We arrived early morning and the key code didn't work so the staff had to wake up and open the door. Excellent service. The bathrooms were fairly clean for a backpackers.

First stay at a Haka house hostel was in Rotorua. Based on that experience, I chose them again in Christchurch. Their value is simply unbeatable. 24/7 easy pick box check-in is awesome. Modern facilities and comfy rooms. Always located near popular areas. Clean toilet and kitchen facilities. Will keep choosing them if possible as I make my way to Queenstown.

Our room was too small, we could hardly move inside . Extremely hot. I couldn't sleep. No place to hang anything, cold atmosphere.

Mattress was hard in places, shower curtain didn't prevent water from pooling on bathroom floor and shower head didn't stay in position correctly.

Room was clean and warm, other guests were courteous, curtains gave privacy and plenty of storage for belongings.
