Reviews of YHA Nelson

I’ve stayed at a lot of YHAs around the world and Nelson was exactly what I hoped for — clean, safe, and super welcoming. Big shoutout to Royce & Linda and all the team who made me feel right at home. Location is spot on, right in the CBD and right by the Abel Tasman shuttle pick-up — super handy for early starts. The hostel has everything you need for a reset between hikes: good showers, a solid kitchen, laundry with $1 detergent scoops, and even a little sauna (my tired legs were very grateful for that!). Loved the friendly, family vibe here — it was so easy to stay longer than planned. Highly recommend if you’re after a tidy, relaxed base in Nelson without the party hostel chaos.

The facilities were clean and great. Very clean kitchen too. Would come back here to stay again during summer. Couldn't choose who you're sleeping with - there is a lady who was using her phone the entire night (very bright screen and keyboard typing sound turned on which was pretty irritating and inconsiderate)

The staff are so lovely and helpful. I had a made a mistake of booking a weekend late. With just just one easy phone call they were able to assist me in 10 minutes. The kitchen area is so spacious and stocked with all the necessities. Bathrooms are clean some with a hairdryer. They have a lovely board which states the weather and activities available in Nelson throughout the week of your stay. If you you’re a walker it’s not very far from spots like Centre of NZ or the waterfront. Lovely calm sounds played in the eating area.Friendliest staff !

I liked the dedicated female dorm. I.liked the big kitchen and the big longe area that can be divided into two rooms.

There is only a single shower for the female dorm.

The staff were exceptional even leaving a Reservation Note with my name n date of arrival on the bed.

There was nothing i didnt like

I liked the cleanliness of the facilities. They were modern and spacious with plenty of room for those there at the time.

Expensive. Charged hotel rates for a room with the only window near the ceiling; no refrigerator and no tea and coffee making facilities. If they charge hotel rates they should provide the basics.
