Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandI especially loved the location, walking distance to all the interesting things I wanted to do, and more. The setting surrounded by ancient volcanic hills, old forts, the souk, the port, great food options... Absolutely awesome! The room had a fridge, hot water jug and teas etc provided. A very comfy bed in a small room. Needed to borrow a power adaptor for USB charger from upstairs cafe. The entrance system was not difficult. I can recommend taking up the breakfast option.. I'll post a photo of how it looks, the flavours so yum. The bathroom, tho my private one, was down some stairs as is the kitchen. I had to take care at night, kept the light on. I liked the drain for the shower was covered by smooth stones. Everything was modern and clean, nice bathroom products provided.

AustraliaEverything! The aesthetics of the rooms was amazing, the aircon was fabulous and was on for our arrival. The optional breakfast was great and really added to the authenticity of our stay. Fabulous location - 10 minute walk to the market and restaurants. The guy who handled the breakfast booking was very polite and helpful. Free parking a couple of minutes walk away. The views down the street were incredible. Free bottled water was provided. Entry via keypad was okay because I had read earlier reviews. This was a fantastic stay and we would definitely stay again in the future.

ThailandLocals eat on the floor but it would be nice to have a table for those of us who are not used to eating on the floor. There was a problem with the wi-fi but the owner got personally involved and even gave us a small refund. The wi-fi is out of the owner's control but this shows that the owner and his staff care very much about their guests and take their hospitality seriously. You cannot ask for more.
Very friendly staff. Not on site 24/7 but around each day and also available online. When they are around will give extra amenities (towels, tissues, coffee, tea etc) with a smile if you just ask. So it's the best balance between a hotel and a private rental. Owner and manager both available in case of any problems. Rooms very clean with smart and comfortable feel. Staff keep the rooms and communal areas under 24/7 air con so you immediately start to cool down when coming in from the heat. (They don't go in your room and turn off the a/c like many hotels!) Perfect location in Mutrah.

AustraliaMinor thing is that the kitchen is shared. Didn’t worry us as the room has tea and coffee facilities, and a fridge, but just to be aware of if you are planning to self-cater.
We absolutely loved the staff. They were so helpful and really looked after us. The room was really comfortable and a good size for two. We bought breakfast one day and it was really delicious and good value. Walking distance to Muttrah Souk and restaurants.

IrelandThe after-hours checkin procedure is a bit tricky until you get used to it. We arrived after midnight and had to use the touchpad to gain access to the building and then our room. The code was sent to us before our arrival. The external touchpad did not give feedback as you pressed the keys so we kept fumbling and were unable to gain access. We then phoned the owner's number and were let in - embarrassed we had woken her. Once we learned the keypad's idiosyncrasy we were fine but in that first early morning arrival after a 14-hour flight from Australia it was a challenge. Perhaps that could be improved.
We did not wish to choose the standard mezze breakfast that was on offer and were pleasantly surprised to find that on top of the guesthouse was a cafe which served croissants, tea and espresso coffee. That was exactly what we wanted. The location is very good, just a few hundred metres walk from the main shopping/restaurant district, yet in a quiet area. The owners were very friendly and looked after us well. The room was large and comfortable.

New ZealandNot related to the accom but Google Maps gives tricky directions to Fort Guesthouse due to it being a one way street. We found it easier to drive in/get dropped off from the People and Place Museum side 👍
An authentic, traditional guesthouse which is beautiful and has all the amenities you need. The hosts were extremely kind and helpful - we even had a plate of fresh fruit brought to our room after a long day of exploring! Great location to explore the Muttrah area.

United StatesOur private bath was down some stairs, making it a bit of a trek at night. But this was made clear in the listing.
This was a good base for exploring the suq and Corniche. Late night remote check-in was easy, communication was good, parking in a big free lot round the corner was easy. Truly excellent breakfast on the rooftop for a modest price. This is a budget hotel and our room was basic, but quiet with a great matress so we had no complaints. Friendly, personal vibe.

Italy-
We spent one night here. Our stay was amazing! Fort Guesthouse is in the heart of Mutrah and everything in the old city is walking distance (which is a REAL plus!). The accommodation was superb in perfect Omani style (we had a room with an external bathroom) and the staff is great.
