How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewthe food here is fantastic. Healthy and tasty. Carmen goes out of her way to keep your dietary needs in mind. Marcel is ever present to answer any questions and for dinner time convo. This isn't really a hotel but more like a sustainably focused homestay.
I didn't read the website well enough and didn't realize that there was no air conditioning. The first night was rough because I was stewing over my mistake, but when I realized that this is actually an ecologically concious property, I realized that this property was a diamond in the rough. Sometimes you don't get what you want, but you get what you need, and this property comes with subtle life lessons about conservation.

Verified reviewStaying at Carmen’s was an absolute highlight of our trip! From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed like old friends into her home. The place is beautifully maintained, with comfortable rooms, a lovely dock, and a lush garden perfect for relaxing. The facilities are excellent, but what truly makes this place special is the warmth and hospitality of Carmen and Marcel. They went above and beyond to make sure I had everything I needed, always with such kindness and care. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and abundant—a perfect way to start the day. And in the evening, Carmen’s home-cooked dinners were a treat—she prepares the freshest fish of the day, and all the guests gather around the table to share a meal and great conversation. Carmen was incredibly helpful with everything, from tending to a blister on my foot to organizing day trips. This stay was more than just accommodation—it was a truly memorable experience. I can’t recommend it enough!

Verified reviewCarmen was so very helpful with calling water taxis and giving recommendations for things to do and nice beaches in the area. She has amazing energy and is an excellent cook. Ate breakfast and dinner on the dock family style. Fun to meet all the other guests from around the world. Would definitely recommend.

Verified reviewEverything basically. Carmen, the host, runs more of a community than a bed and breakfast. Very cosy very nice details and she takes a lot of care of her guests! And she is a great cook. Staying for dinner is recommended.
A very luxurious thing would have been an AC but only to fall asleep. Still with the fan it was completely ok.

Verified reviewThere are many places to stay in the Bocas region. Some places you never even meet the owner, you just communicate through WhatsApp. Carmen’s couldn’t be different. She welcomes you with open arms. I have a restricted diet and she did everything to accommodate me. The room was so cute and clean, and the bed so comfortable. It is really a lovely place to stay and she goes above and beyond to meet your needs. Definitely have dinner there! She is a chef, and the food was outstanding and filling for $25
Maybe this wouldn’t bother others, but the dogs are let out early in the morning maybe 5 AM, I’m not sure it was still dark. One of the dogs barks so I was woken up both mornings by this. The only reason, truly the only! for 9 out of 10 score.

Verified reviewVery pretty location among large tropical trees. Carmen and Marcel are incredible hosts. For four days you feel like part of a family with the hosts and other guests. The breakfast is large and flavorful and the dinners combine great food with fun company. We also had two sloths hanging out in the nearby trees.
We loved this place but be aware no AC.

Slightly noisy at night with the music from across the water, but to be expected.

Verified reviewI had a wonderful stay at Carmen's place! She and Marcel are friendly outgoing hosts, and the guesthouse has an amazing location surrounded by the jungle facing the bay. Carmen took very good care of me as a solo traveller, suggesting destinations for day-trips and activities to me and catering to small personal needs as an extra-ration of sand fly-repellent or my daily early morning tea :-) Apart of excursions to Zapatillas and Red Frog Beach, I roamed around by kayak and SUP and Carmen also organised to go out as a group for dinner and to watch some live music, which was a lot of fun! Last but not least, she prepares great dinners with different dishes and provides a generous breakfast with local fruit, pancakes, bread, jam, and your choice of eggs. Would love to come back in the future !
The foot path to Old Bank (and the turn-off to beautiful Wizard Beach) involves crossing the mangrove swamp on thin wooden planks initially. This is not for everybody, and otherwise, you have to rely on boat taxis for every excursion. However, transport via water is a normal condition on all islands in Bocas del Toro, apart of Isla Colon. Another thing, which is not negative but good to know, is that the windows in the main house's rooms have only wooden shutters, no screens or glass panes. There are mosquito nets above the beds, though, and I had no problems with bugs.

Verified reviewI felt right at home at Carmen's Place. I was treated like a member of the family. From the moment i arrived until the last moment that I left, I felt at home and welcome. Form the generous breakfast in the morning to a trip to another island for good food and live music in the evening, I was treated like family. Some hosts welcome you and then leave you alone. Here, I could be alone if I liked or be engaged with my host. As a solo traveler, I welcomed the opportunity. Carmen and Marcel have a marvelous property, somewhat secluded, while yet folded into the local community, a real experience.

Verified reviewWe liked everything about this place, Carmen is a really big spirit, beautiful soul. Worth to mention: filtered water is provided, you also have beers, wines in the fridge and coconuts are available too. The organized tour was exceptional and Sunday night at the Bibi`s was an authentic experience.
Nights can be rough as there is no fan in the room.

Verified reviewCarmen’s place is between luscious jungle and a gentle bay by the sea. It has a dock where in you can sit and relax or even have breakfast. All the food is made by Carmen, and she accommodated my dietary restrictions perfectly. I really enjoyed falling asleep listening to the jungle sounds, and waking up to sun rising. Both Carmen and Marcel were excellent hosts, helping me out with anything I needed. I really enjoyed the stay especially the evening dinners with all the guests. Afterwards we would sit, drink and chat for hours.

No air conditioning but nice ocean breeze blowing through. Their backyard is the Bastamento jungle and the front is waterfront dock. We had free use of a great kayak to snorkel from.
