How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe hostel had an amazing view over Cusco, with a really nice area to chill with a pool table. The beds were extremely comfortable and warm and the room was tidied and cleaned everyday. Very good value for money, especially seen as breakfast was included. 24/7 front desk is nice.
The showers are bad. There is often no hot water at all which is not the best seen as you are often returning after a long day trip. They also electrocute you if you touch them. The location also isn’t the best and it is a small walk to get to the centre. It can be quite noisy in the hostel, not the guests, but the owners of the hostel often have their family there and I struggled to sleep sometimes.

Verified reviewBig entertainment area on the ground floor
Stinky cold room, bent bed, curtains not covering completely the window allowing light from the street to come in. At the check in staff told us that a water cut could occur from 9pm to 4am.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. However, we believe your comments are not aligned with the reality of our service. Our rooms are cleaned daily and maintained free of unpleasant odors. Regarding the water, we do not use underground sources, as they are contaminated and could cause skin problems. Instead, we ensure that our guests always have access to safe and treated water. The temporary water cut was announced to all guests upon check-in so that no one would be caught by surprise. In addition, both in the morning and midday we personally asked if everything was fine during your stay, and no concerns were mentioned at that time. We value all feedback, but in this case we feel it does not reflect the true effort and care we put into making our guests comfortable.

Verified reviewBreakfast was really good, just the portion might be larger. Coffee, tea, and hot cocoa are available during the whole day, the same like the common spaces. During my stay hostel was not very occupied, so it was very silent.
The room was quite cold, especially at night; however, three blankets were provided, so it was not too bed. The hostel is located on the hill; on the other hand, it provides you with nice views.

Verified reviewStaff super friendly, inviting & let you store your bags for as you need them for the day before departing. Buildings little cold, but that is just Cusco this time of year! A little walk from town but cracking views of the city & a very relaxing lounge area full of sofas and more
No warm water in the double room I booked, so a little cold in the shower. Only constructive feedback

Verified reviewGreat view of the city. Very cheap room. Decent amenities for the price. Pretty clean and economical. Its about a 5 min drive from the main plaza, and uber costs about $2.
Window did not close all the way, so it got cold. We however had a small room heater. They do not pack breakfast for you if you leave before 5am for the tours unlike other hotels & hostels. Nobody at the hotel spoke english, but we got through with a translator.

Verified reviewThere is a big common area with a good view. Breakfast is simple, but easily upgradable with a palta from the market. Very affordable, be ready to practice your Spanish at the reception.
The common showers are annoying as between 9 pm and 4 am there will often be no water and if there is the pressure could be better. - Not ideal if you arrive back late from hiking. Be ready to pay in cash as their card reading machine doesn't work.
Thank you for your feedback. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you experienced with the water supply. Water shortages and low pressure can occasionally occur in Cusco, especially during peak hours or certain times of the year, and unfortunately this has been a city-wide issue. During your stay, we were also experiencing temporary problems with our water system, but we’re happy to share that it is now fully operational. Regarding the card payment issue, we understand how frustrating that must have been. Our card reader was temporarily out of service due to a technical fault, but it has since been repaired and is now working properly. We appreciate your comments as they help us improve, and we hope to have the chance to welcome you again under better circumstances.

Verified reviewThe place itself is not bad, located a bit far out from the city center but that also means you have a decent view of the city. Great facilities with free tea, billiard table etc., however the main issue is with the service level from the reception and transparency of information. When we arrived, we could not pay with card as the terminal was out of order - the receptionist informed us that it was being fixed, so we could come back and pay the following day. When we come back, we are informed that we still cannot pay with card and now have to pay cash - we inform him that we were not expecting this and whether we could pay in 4 days as we come back from our Machu Picchu trek to stay one more night at the place. He said no, despite it being his own fault, so we had to walk 20 minutes to the nearest ATM, each way, to pay. When we finally do pay, he adds a 10-11% exchange rate fee to pay in their own national currency, arguing it is because I pay with Peruvian Pesos? Exchange fee to pay with the domestic currency? Interesting. If you care about service and transparent pricing, I'd choose one of the plenty great options in Cusco. If you only want a cheap bed and free coca tea, you can consider this and add 10+ % to the price you see here. Little bonus info, the rooms are extremely cold due to the terrible windows - we asked for another room and were told they are all the same, but during our 2nd stay there (pre-booked, sadly) we got a room in the ground-floor which were different and warmer. Again, terrible receptionist who just doesn't seem to care.
Thank you very much for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We truly appreciate it, as it helps us identify areas where we can improve and offer better service to all our guests. First of all, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the card terminal being out of service during your stay. This was due to an unexpected technical issue, and we regret that it affected your experience so negatively. We completely understand how frustrating it must have been to walk to the ATM, and we’re very sorry we couldn’t offer a better solution at that moment. Regarding the exchange rate fee, we understand your confusion and agree that this should have been explained more clearly. We are currently reviewing our payment policies and communication procedures to ensure full transparency and to avoid similar misunderstandings in the future. We’re also sorry to hear about the temperature in your room. Cusco’s climate can be quite cold, especially at night, and while our building structure affects insulation, we are looking at practical ways to make all our rooms more comfortable year-round. Lastly, we truly regret that you felt the service from our reception team did not meet your expectations. We are actively working on additional training to ensure every guest is treated with warmth, respect, and care at all times. Despite the issues, we’re grateful you mentioned some of the positive aspects, such as the view and facilities. We hope you enjoyed your visit to Machu Picchu and that you might consider giving us another opportunity to provide a better experience in the future.

Verified reviewIt's well run, the rooms and social areas are cosy and well kept and the view really is incredible, it's a nice place to return to after a busy day or night in the city.
It can be a bit cold but fine for sleeping as they give you plenty of blankets. The staff's level of English is pretty low but my Spanish is awful and I got by.

No water from 9 pm to 4 am ( I get this is a city issue but other hostels has fixed this problem ) And a long walk from the center + a lot of stairs to climb on the way

Verified reviewClean modern facilities; nice city view from the common area. Tea/coffee/hot water available throughout the day. Location is OK, while not very central - it's still an easy walk down to areas of interest. It's on one of the major streets with several cheap bus options available for those who prefer to skip the walk up.
There is no heating in the property and it was quite cold during our stay (low single digits at night). The staff could only offer an extra blanket. Hot water was available intermittently so taking a shower is a bit of an adventure. Breakfast is only offered during set times - on the last day we left early and there was no option to get anything packed, even a piece of bread.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear that you felt cold during your stay. This season has been unusually cold for our city, with temperatures dropping lower than usual at night. While we currently provide extra blankets, we understand this may not be enough for everyone and are exploring additional ways to improve comfort during colder periods. Regarding the hot water, we apologize for the inconsistency. We're working on making the system more reliable, especially during peak usage times. As for breakfast, it is offered during set hours to ensure fresh preparation, but we understand your point and will consider more flexible options, especially for early departures. We truly appreciate your comments—they help us continue to improve and provide a better experience for all our guests.

Verified reviewLocation is okish, tho you need to do a lot of steps to get to the centre. Rooms are cleaned well daily, breakfast included, hot drinks all day included, nice view and billiard available.
They advertise that they accept card, however machine was not working during whole stay and wanted cash payment at a rate they deceide, while booking.com clearly states amount to be paid!! Tried to charge me for a burger I didn't have on a day I was out since 3am for an activity and the amount happened to be exactly the difference I refused to pay with their exchange rate...also shower is abit of a hazard as it shocks if you are not careful!

Verified reviewVery attentive staff. Plenty of spaces to chill outside the room. Simple but good breakfast, perfect for the whole acclimating process. We booked Rainbow Mountain tour with them and it was an amazing experience!
The mattress in our room (505) can use an update. It was in pretty bad condition. Everything else was great :)

- property uses very high currency rate - rooms are very moist/cold all the time due to Cusco being cold city and no proper isolation - up hill location, so be prepared to walk
