How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewSUCH a great hostel! Located right at the edge of town, it was clean, dorm beds were comfy with plugs, lights, and shelf. The staff were friendly and helpful, and there is a great terrace and restaurant with a gorgeous view of the cliffs. Would definitely stay here again!

Verified reviewIt is a must thing to stay in Agua Caliente to visit Machu Picchu. I was lucky to still get the circuit 2 ticket for the next day with the Peru train arriving in the afternoon. Since my ticket was slot at 3pm. I decided to take the stairs walking up to Machu Picchu, which was about 1hour but saved 24 dollars for the bus. The second day since I finished visiting Maccu Picchu quite late and there were no trains back to Cusco anymore. So I stayed for another night in the female room and met two girls:))
I had no hot water for the first night in the private room. There was no heater in the private room either. The window seal was bad, so the cold air continuously ran in and it was freezing.

Verified reviewGreat place, central, friendly, well priced. All the good things!
After staying three nights, I walked up Machu Picchu on the day I checked out, and they tried to charge me 20soles for a shower... Just felt a bit lame after having three nights there. All other places in Peru I've stayed, an additional shower has been no problem.

Verified reviewGood location Cheap compare to other accomodations Nice staff Nice terrasse (and toilets to use after check out) Storage room to leave your luggage
It didn't feel safe: -one door is open 24h/24 but the staff is not always here (there was no one when I arrived). -The storage room is not locked, and since an entry door is open 24h/24 it's a bit stressful -my dorm was very dirty but I think it was because of the group of 5 people already there Upper beds with no curtains. Poor breakfast

The owner charged me over the price because he decided the rate of the dollar Also dirty noisy Breakfast miserably And the owner was disrespectful proposed to check out when I was disagree to pay over
Hello, thank you for taking the time to leave your comment. We would like to clarify that the exchange rate of 3.80 soles per dollar is the standard used by most businesses in Machu Picchu due to higher logistical costs. This rate was informed prior to payment and was not a personal or arbitrary decision made by the owner, but rather a common practice in the area. We regret that you described the breakfast as “miserable,” even though it includes bread, egg, butter, jam, and coffee or mate — and has been well appreciated by many of our guests. Regarding cleanliness and noise, our team works daily to maintain the facilities, and we conduct regular checks. We’re sorry if this was not your perception during your stay. As for the owner being “disrespectful” or asking you to check out, that option was only proposed as a last resort after noticing that you strongly disagreed with the previously explained and accepted conditions of the booking. We respect your opinion, but we also believe it’s important to provide an honest and transparent version of the events. Thank you for staying with us.

Verified reviewAwesome hostel with the most helpful staff. Thanks to Linda recommendation, I was able to organise my plans in a much better way. She gave me valuable advise to help me plan my trip. Thanks Linda! Lian the guy is also nice. Breakfast is great and they even provided packeted breakfast if needed for the early start of Machu Picchu. It’s well located, the rooftop is great to chill. Clean space, comfy beds, clean white soft towels provided.
A faster checkin process would be great as a lot of us are coming from either a tiring trek or after queuing long hours for the tickets.

Verified reviewVery clean hostel and helpful staff. Really good breakfast.
It was incredibly noisy, both from the trains constantly passing outside to the other guests going up and down the stairs.

Verified reviewThe location is perfect, very close to the center but yet very quiet.
There is only one bathroom for a 6 people room, with only one shower and one toilet, that means that only one person can use it at a time. Given that everyone has its own schedule this does not help at all. I understand it’s because of the town, but we’ve stayed in better places for half the price in Peru.

Verified reviewGreat place for a one night stop before Macchu Picchu. Reasonable price based on the area. The staff was friendly and helpful. Best of all, you can leave your bag there all day as you see the ruins + use the space after checkout as you wait for your train.
Nothing really.
