Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Franceit’s far from Aguas calientes and there no way to get there besides walking. Not cheap. Infusion and teas are extra. Thin walls. Don’t drink the tap water !
Beautiful location next to the river and the train tracks. Nice comfortable room, and good breakfast.

PolandThe food was really good, lunch perfect for coming back after the whole day hiking. If you need to leave early for Machu Picchu the included breakfast can be also given as a lunchbox a day before- super convenient. Super nice stuff, I forgot my belly bag at the cabins and Erwin, the host, sent it through his brother to Arequipa with no problem and did not even want the money back for the shipping (thank you so much again haha!!) Throughout the stay everyone was super thankful as well, you can get info about the buses and potentially even get a discount;) Placed away from the busy Aguas Calientes, provides an additional access to a park with a hike to the waterfall, which is super cute. Hot showers, and the fellow hikers were super nice as well. Definitely recommended!!!

United KingdomPrice maybe ever so slightly slightly high. Only one bathroom not ideal. Plug socket in room difficult to use with EU plug (US okay).
Beautiful place. Hummingbirds by the river in the garden. Very friendly hosts (gracias Erwin y Jasmine :)). Rico desayuno. They allowed me to have my breakfast when I returned from macchu picchu. Walk from this hostel to macchu picchu entrance takes approx. 90minutes total (30mins to bridge at the bottom of the trail, 60mins to the top). When I went up I was alone and it was peaceful. If you already have a ticket for Macchu Picchu this is perfect because you save approximately 2-3 hours walking [in total] if coming from and going back to hidroelectrica. It was serene. Bugs weren't an issue for me, there were a few but I was expecting much worse. Hot shower. Towel and soap given and reasonably clean spaces. Walk from hidroelectrica takes exactly 90minutes, flat walk. Utube qztours if you want to see how I did it

Detailed Honest Review--- This hostel is obviously for people who took the bus & walking from Hidro & Also hiking to the ruins. It's 1 hour 30 mins from Hidro and 50 mins to Aguas Calientes from hostel. It's 30 mins to check point of Machu and I climbed up in 1 hour 15 mins( mix of stairs & walk where buses pass- recommend that, better scenery & little waterfalls to refresh). Beautiful pond behind the hostel, very quiet & comfortable. Best to avoid that shit town, Aguas Calientes. Breakfast is 20 soles, dinner is 25 soles & beer is 8 soles

Such a beautiful place to spend a day or two before do your treck to Machu Picchu. The host is really nice lady and her burgers are amazing. There is a wonderful terrace next to the river (you need to fight the mosquitoes) where you can enjoy and watch the birds. Also, the waterfall area next to the hostel is beautiful and worth visiting. The only problem is the slow wifi, but when you are there, it is better to enjoy the nature than tiktok or instagram 😀

United KingdomBring lots of bug spray as there were lots of mosquitoes.
Hosts were very welcoming, dinner was delicious and location was perfect to get to machu picchu next day. We were able to leave bags at the property when travelling to machu picchu as we took a bus back from hydroelectrica. The botanical gardens were very nice to walk around nearby.

BrazilI couldn't have stayed in a better place! A very pleasant space in contact with nature and 20 minutes away from the entrance to Machu Picchu! The hosts welcomed me very well from the beginning, being very friendly and polite, helping me with information on how to get to Machu Picchu and prompt in their services. The rooms are very comfortable, everything is rustic and spacious, the bed is very comfortable, I had the best night's sleep of the trip! Thank you to the super welcoming couple and I decided to use the service, I would definitely come back.

United StatesGeneral cleaning throughout our stay was lacking a bit, back porch would be even sweeter if it was screened in (for bugs). I think chef was gone during our stay so I'm sure food is normally top notch. Worth mentioning that the Nature Reserve is no longer due to a flash flood - I had originally booked this expecting that due to the reviews so I think it's important to set expectations. They are working on replanting/rebuilding it which is very inspiring and it is still possible to visit a waterfall nearby.
Much more relaxing/less touristy place to stay than Aguas Calientes. Cut this day of the Salkantay trek shorter by an hour and then we could go to Machu Picchu the next day as the trailhead is on the way to Aguas Calientes. Not great location if you plan on going to Aguas Calientes every night, as they only way to get there is a 50 minute walk along the railroad tracks. Staff were very friendly. Lots of common spaces to relax.

Magical place! A little tropical paradise just below Machu Pichu. It was so great to arrive after a day of walking and find a comfortable room with hot water. The food was great and the botanical garden is beautiful. We had a wonderful stay

ItalyUnlike all the other places we stayed during the Salkantay trek, breakfast and dinner were not included. Still very cheap for European standards though!
The place is ideal if you want to visit Machu Picchu the next day and you don't want to experience the noise and crowd of Aguas Calientes. Furthermore, if you are walking back from Machu Picchu to Hidroelectrica to get the colectivo back to Cusco, you will pass by Mandor, where you can leave your luggage. It is on the railway path, in a quiet and beautiful location. Bring mosquito spray! It is possible to visit (for 10 soles instead of 20) the Mandor botanical garden, a really beautiful area with a small river and waterfalls where you can also swim, ideal to cool down after visiting the Inca town. The room was comfortable and the shower was hot, the staff was super kind and helpful.

United StatesThe location was incredible! They are very informative and kind! Their land has been reforested, an absolutely iconic example, the food was wonderful, and the prices were fair for the location! They grow and roast their own coffee, it was delicious! On the hike to the waterfall many of the plant species were labled which was new and refreshing!

GermanyThe internet, but it’s much better to look around and take in the amazing nature or walk the botanical garden.
The receptionist/owner/cleaner/server Mellie (?) has her hands full but has always an open ear and really cares for her guests. Cecilia, the cook, is an excellent cook and you should trust her judgment in what to eat and ask what’s good for you. She told me to never eat eggs at night and don’t mix avocado with ice cream. I had a stomach issue and she really helped me.

NetherlandsStaff a bit chaotic. Rooms can use some improvement (a bit too basic). Make it clear when there is breakfast… the location also not ideal - need to walk about an hour into town to get bus to Machu Picchu.
It’s a nice hotel in the wilderness… dinner in evening ok. Unclear when breakfast was being served…

Switzerland- Painfully slow wifi - Small dinner portions - Incredibly loud since it is right next to the railway (the entire cabin shook and was lit up by the train lights - This also applies in the middle of the night when the service and/or goods trains operate - We found quite a few big spiders in the room we had to kill - We also had a bat in the room, which we had to get out somehow - in the roof of the building live mice or some sort of rodent. We could hear them the whole night scratching and squeaking which kept us up along with the trains After expressing our dissatisfaction to the owners, we were not offered what we found a fair compromise for what was a pretty restless night. This was particularly frustrating because we wanted to be fresh for Machu Picchu the following day. If you value a good nights sleep, look elsewhere.
- Breakfast and dinner were both tasty - The room was clean (we were kindly upgraded to the cabin) - Clean, hot shower (we got the private bathroom) - Pretty location with a nice garden - Friendly staff - Strategically located if you: 1. Already have your Machu Picchu tickets and don‘t need to go to Aguas Calientes for anything 2. Walk in from Hidroelectrica In that case you save yourself quite a bit of walking and/or transport costs.

United Statesold and a bit dirty / run down. everything worked, private bathroom, so all in all fine. jus a very base accommodation- maybe not what you’d expect for the price. also, it is much farther than anticipated from machu picchu. we discovered too late that it would actually have been quicker and easier to stay in aguas calientes.
nice staff, pretty environment. beautiful respite along the urabamba river during your trek!

NetherlandsThe location is good if you want to go to Hidroelectra. Otherwise, it is a 60 minute walk to Aguas Calientes and 30 minutes to the foot of Machu Picchu. The rooms were quite dated. The water in the shower was not very hot.
Nice family-owned place. Rooms were a bit dated, but fine and quite comfortable. There was okay WiFi and the dinners were great and affordable. Lobely terraza and amazing Mandor, which you can enter how many times you like. We liked staying here.

Malaysia1. Wifi did not work. It did not have IP address (0.0.0.0) which meant there was something to do with how the router was set up. Upon raising the issue with the owner, she only brushed it aside by giving reason the wifi was ‘slow’ instead of having someone to reset or check the router. 2. The exchange rate used to pay in local currency was higher than online rate USD/PEN. Never understood why hotels must quote in USD then bring out a calculator to do conversion anyway. Really strange practice and one is prone to be shortchanged. For the record, I saw the owner was using 4.04 PEN to 1 USD which was significantly higher than online exchange rate. 3. There were no lights in the internal corridor and the terrace. The former was quite hazardous as there were staircases that can cause untoward accidents. Needed to bring a torchlight when walking from the room to the shared bathroom. 4. There were bugs coming from wooden walls in the room and they accumulated on the bedsheet. Pretty sure some of the bites that I had the next morning were from these, apart from the expected sand flies from the outdoor. 5. The meals were quite expensive but sometimes you have no choice but to eat there given the remote location.
1. Location is great with soothing river sound and only 6km walk from Hidroelectrica (compared to 10km walk to Aguas Calientes). 2. Nice terrace by the river to relax. 3. Great, working hot shower.

GermanyAfter a long day of traveling and a long walk along the train tracks I arrived at around 6:30 at the place and was told that because I was late for the check-in, my room had been given to someone else. The host told me it would take some time to get another room ready, then resumed playing cards with some other guests. Later I got a room but the host made an issue out of the price/payment. He did refund me for the downgrade the next day when I was checking out though.
The bed was comfortable, there was hot water in the shower and the place is located nicely next to the river. Dinner was delicious as well as the fresh juice they have and the cook seems really nice and friendly.
