How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewIt was a short walk from the Train Station. They sent a person to meet me and take me to the hotel. I had to buy a bus ticket to Machupicchu and we went via the office which was just up the road from hotel. I had a 5am start and they gave me a plentiful and tasty packed breakfast You just need to step out the hotel reception to join the bus queue for ride up mountain. For me it was clean, comfortable and extremely well located. I would stay again.

Verified reviewThis hotel far exceeded our expectations. The location is unbeatable (as so many others have said). Our room was very comfortable - it appeared recently updated. The bathroom (with bathtub) was very comfortable and spacious with great hot water. The bed was comfortable. As for cleanliness - the room was impeccably CLEAN. All of the furnishings "matched" well. Although located right in front of the bus queue, at night the hotel is very quiet. All you hear is the river. The breakfast staff was pleasant, and the breakfast was sufficient. The front desk was very friendly and helpful with bag storage before and after checkin/checkout. Overall, this is an example of VERY WELL MANAGED property - where everything hums along nicely. I stayed at other properties on this vacation, and they could all learn so much by reviewing how well this property is managed. Price is good. There are TONS of decent dining options within 5-10 mins. Overall, Aguas Calientes far exceeded my expectations. I has more to offer in way of dining options, etc. than, say, Ollantaytambo.
Nothing - everything was fine. Keep up the great work managing this hotel!

Verified reviewThe hotel was very clean, and in a great location. The staff were great, and the reservation was easy. Water pressure is high and the water is very hot - perfect after a long day of hiking. Hotel staff were great and made us breakfast bags (since we couldn’t be there for breakfast) on our Machu Picchu hike. Location is right next to bus stop, and on the cities river. Pharmacy, plaza, restaurants, all within 1 minute walk. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.
I had zero complaints with the property.

Verified reviewPerfect position, right in front of the bus station for Machu Picchu. Staff is AMAZING, kudos to the girl at the front desk. I had issues with my Machu Picchu guide and she supported me so much! I loved her help. Room was also very warm.

Verified reviewLOCATION: This hotel is just next to the bus stop going to MP. It is also walking distance to the train station and the tourist market. They were also nice to provide packed food as we had left about 5am the next morning.
All good

Verified reviewHot showers. Blankets kept us warm. Location was excellent, stepped outside at 5:13am and the line for bus to Machu Picchu was right there. We caught the 4th bus up. They gave us a to go bag for breakfast. Stored our large luggage all day too. Comfortable waiting area, and clean banos to use in lobby. Staff were excellent.
The feather comforter were pokey when sitting on top, fine underneath due to blankets. Not in the hotels control but there were fireworks going off after midnight and a band roaming the central streets until 1am. We did not figure out how the heater worked.

Verified reviewWhen it comes to location, Casa de Luz Hotel is spot on. The queue for the bus up to Machu Picchu is literally right outside the hotel entrance, and it’s just a short walk to both the IncaRail and PeruRail stations—exceptionally convenient for travellers. What truly stood out for me, though, was the presence of a space heater in the room—an absolute winner. I visited in June, which is winter in the Southern Hemisphere, and Peru can get surprisingly chilly. Some hotel rooms can feel quite cold, but not at Casa de Luz. Within minutes, my room was warm and cosy. The bed was by far the most comfortable of all six places I stayed during my time in Peru—I slept like a baby. The following morning, I enjoyed a generous and satisfying breakfast before setting off for Machu Picchu.
I am not technical. I just wanted to see the news but the TV appeared to be Netflix requiring passwords etc. I didn't bother and went to sleep instead

Verified reviewBetter than I expected from the hotel in such touristy place.
Window when closed still passes the noise from outside. Towels were not in the room on the check in (though they brought it quickly after request)
