Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

JapanFacing the river means facing the main street in Machupicchu Town, so in retrospect a room with a garden view may have been more quiet.
They start serving breakfast from 5 a.m. so it helps if you have an early time slot at Machupicchu. Among the various hotels we stayed during our visit to South America, Smaq Machupicchu was the only hotel where a “standard room” had a bathtub.

FranceNothing - we loved everything.
Excellent hotel with superb staff. We didn't book tickets for Machu Picchu but the hotel staff helped us navigate the very complex system to buy tickets and we had a fantastic stay overall. Reception and dining staff were always trying to make us feel welcome and were simply amazing.

ChinaThe heating system didn't work at the beginning, but the service took another removable electric heater to us. The service is perfect.
The quality of the property is worth. Perfect location in the town for a family. Have a chance to feel the local life. Perfect room abd meals to a family with little kids. Also because of our travel time, our room was updated to the high floor with great view.

United KingdomThis is a very expensive hotel purporting to be 5 star. In reality it is nowhere near. The big problem is the location with a raging torrent of a river next to the hotel. The lack of double glazing meant there was a constant roar from the river in the room making sleep impossible. The train track at the rear of the hotel added to the noise. The menu did not change for 3 consecutive nights and was the same during the day time. We booked this hotel as a treat for ourselves but sadly it was just ordinary and grossly overpriced.
The staff were very friendly

United States-When we checked in rooms were not ready so we had lunch while we waited. Waited without asking us brought us water (2 bottles) and charged us 25 soles instead of offering us the purified water. Why should guests be ripped off and pollute drinking water from across the world when they have free in house purified water? Second lunch waiter refused serving is purified water while another table got it! -they claimed they upgraded us but put us in a low floor room right out to the street either buses flying by non stop and stopping under our window making our room smell of diesel. I had requested high floor and quiet room - you get one bottle of purified water for toothbrushing and have to pay for more. That was not even enough and then we couldn’t get tea bc we were not about to pay 25 ($6) sole for water from the other side of the world -drinks first night took 20+ minutes even though bar was quiet -no late check outs which is understandable but given they know guests leave early for mountain and return there should be a possibility for showers without paying xtra. This is not a hostel but guests pay $500+ pr night and they kick you out at 7 am and then you have to pay to shower. All other high end hotels offer this service for free so really gives you a bad taste of a hotel that pumps its guest. We did pay and the shower stalls are outdated and grossly offered to use same brushes as other guests. Have to change in a massage room with barely any space. Those guests that did not want to pay took up all the bar sofas sleeping in their dirty clothes with shoes in the sofas. Pretty gross and smelly. -hotel is old and dilapidated. Rooms much smaller than described - we had some bar snacks and bartender super nice and friendly. But food took forever and pizza was undercooked and soggy and cheese but browned. But the servers friendliness stood out -We had massages. Not able to get at the same time as they only have one therapist. Therefore they had to be shorter.
