How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewStaff was super helpful with giving recommendations for places to eat and things to see. Also, they gave us our breakfast to go since we had an early checkout - super nice. Good vibe and great views.
Nothing.

Verified reviewSo incredibly clean! Never stayed in a hostel with such pristine, white bedsheets. Really nice location, close enough to the plaza the armas but still far away from the bustling center.
I was unfortunately in a room right by the reception and it was really noisy when trying to get some rest before a big hike (especially since I moved to a private room to have more quiet). It’s worth staying there, just ask to be put in a further away room.

Verified reviewWhat I like from this property? Welllllll… can’t say much! Location was the only thing!
Not sure how to start but didn’t like it at all! Maybe it was just me picking the wrong place from what I’m used to but it’s the second time staying at a hostel on a private room and both experiences are totally different. Since we got there, the guy in the front desk was not professional. His tone and the way he spoke was like “ughh I’m bored just want to be done with this” he provided “all” the info and ended with I don’t know what else like whatever. Coming to Cusco for first time, didn’t even offer a tea or anything (thank god we always felt great). Went to our room and yeah, It smelled like sewage and looked just dirty and old. The ceiling was white and it had dark mold marks, They had this rug by the bed that looked so dirty — it just made things worse. Better to not have it at all. Went to use the restroom and Found about 6 hairs in the toilet so had to get it clean again but we were not able to use the restroom again without putting paper all over. The shower curtain looked soooo dirty, it also had mold. To get hot water in the shower, you have to wait a lotttt and no hot water in the sink. Also, the room was very cold and no heater. The guy in the front tried calling the owner for a heater but her response was “we don’t have any” and hung up the call. Like no even the attempt to help or offer any alternatives. they only provided small blankets like the ones you get on long flights. We paid in cash (usd) and after 30 minutes, the guy went to our room saying he gave the wrong change. I let it slide maybe the conversion rate from usd to soles but that night that we came back from our tour , the new guy on the front requested a new 20 dollar bill because the one I provided was not “good” like? It was just a bit bend. Not even broken. I provided a new bill but definitely not happy and apparently this is a thing in Peru so have that in mind. They only want perfect dollar bills. Not even in US are that picky.
Hi Vanessa! I read your review, and I was very surprised by your words! First of all, I do not understand why, with so many problems you had during your stay with us, you did not try to solve them during your stay and even treasured them until now... Maybe you would have had better days and we could have improved on something! Having said that, I spoke personally with all the staff, and what came out was that you never took any pleasure in talking to any of the guys, to the point that you never replied to their greetings! But let is start at the beginning... You arrived early in the morning (around 07:00) and were allowed an early check-in, asked if you wanted to have breakfast (paying for the service) or if you simply wanted to use the free coffee and tea service, which is available day and night where we serve breakfast, after which you entered the room. The room had clearly been cleaned, but given your doubts about it, Gabriel and Arelys came in again to check and found it clean and tidy. Without a doubt, the building is old, and being in the historical centre of the city, it is very difficult to make substantial changes to prevent and or repair any defects, such as damp in the walls, cold from the windows... Precisely because of the cold, I was contacted directly by telephone, and I told Gabriel to offer you extra blankets, in addition to the extra one already in the room... The duvet is of goose feathers, the upper blanket is fleece, and to these two we added three more... Where would not I have tried to help and look for a solution?! Unfortunately, the hostel has no heating, so how could I have offered you the service?! Speaking of water, unfortunately in Cusco there is no drinking water service all day long, so on the roofs of the buildings there are cisterns that come into operation when the city service is not working, this causes a change in pressure during the day, and the pressure is what determines the fast or slower escape of hot water! Lastly, it is not easy here to deposit American banknotes (USD dollars) in the bank if they are not in good condition; two of the ones you paid with were broken and stained, and this implies that the bank does not accept them; that is why you were asked to change them! it is obvious that if this had happened to you elsewhere, it is not the Peruvians who are fussy but the system that is different from what you are used to! Again, all these things I could have explained to you verbally or by message (since I contacted you before check-in to welcome you) during your stay, and perhaps you could have had a better experience! And, I would like to remind you, that people can be flawed in their speech, they can be confused, they can make mistakes, but not to be judged as unprofessional! Gabriel, Arelys, Diego, Bryan and Naomi are not programmed machines, they are people who work for a living, always trying to give their best! I am sorry your stay was so bad! I hope at least you got to know Cusco and its surroundings in a better way! Martina

Verified reviewI spent one night in a 4 people dorm, the beds are super comfortable with curtains, a light, a wall outlet and extra space to keep your stuff. Lockers are quite big, a big backpack fits! Bathrooms and common rooms are simple but clean. Breakfast was ok. Staff very nice with good communication since before the arrival.

Verified reviewI stayed in a private room with a shared bathroom. The room had a great view of the city from window which was a definite highlight. FYI: the hostel is located a bit uphill from center, so the walk might be a little challenging for some guests.
The pillows were not comfortable and could definitely be replaced along with better bedding sheets for a better night's sleep. One of the shared bathrooms at time of visit dint have bath mats.

No hot water :(
Hi Izaan! It seems very strange to read that there was no hot water during your stay! The system works normally! Rather the problem may have been that many people were showering at the same time as you! In any case, I would advise you, if a similar situation should happen to you again, to approach reception so that a solution can be found at the same time! I am sure we could have helped you and you could have taken a hot shower! Until next time! Martina

Verified reviewGood location during the day (a bit darker at night, but still felt safe). Just a 5-minute walk to the Plaza de Armas. The rooms looked exactly like they did in the pictures. On the day of our early tour, they kindly provided us with a breakfast to go.
The breakfast was quite simple... the coffee tasted like it had been sitting there for centuries. There was no thermal comfort. I literally had to put my sweater over my pajamas just to be able to sleep. There was no heater in the room or in the common areas, and when I asked for blankets, they gave me a tiny throw that wasn't enough. During the colder months (June and July), it's not very comfortable.
