How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWe can only say positive things about this accommodation. The tastefully and charmingly furnished beach house, the spacious green garden, the available kayak, and the peaceful atmosphere allowed us to enjoy an extremely relaxing week. We would also like to mention the exceptional friendliness and helpfulness of our host, which went far beyond the usual. Many thanks again for these unforgettable days!

Verified reviewOur stay in Raiatea was unforgettable, and a big part of that was thanks to our host and his wonderful Mom, Nui-Nui ❤️ From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with genuine warmth and care that immediately made us feel at home. The experience truly special was our hosts’ personality and their deep connection to the local culture. They were not only incredibly helpful and kind but also eager to share stories, traditions, and insights about life in Raiatea that we would have never discovered on our own. We especially appreciated how naturally they brought the local way of life into our stay—whether it was offering fresh fruit from their garden, recommending family-run events with real Polynesian soul, or simply taking the time to explain cultural customs with pride and love. It was clear they didn’t just run a place to stay—they opened a window into their world. We left Raiatea with full hearts and a deeper appreciation for the island, its people, and its traditions—all thanks to the spirit and generosity of our host.

I just don't recommend it for people with mobility issues. The steps are very steep

Verified reviewI spent a magical few weeks at Fare Vahine Oviri in December 2024. The host (Johnny) and his wonderful parents (Nuie Nuie and Claude) immersed me in French Polynesian culture which has left a strong and lasting impression on me. The self contained facilities in the villa were very good. The villa is situated at the water's edge. It was so easy to engage in snorkelling and swimming. I was even invited to partake in a community group canoeing practice session which was memorable. The villa is situated approximately 13km from the centre of the town, in a quiet location near the botanical gardens. There are lots of additional activities available which can be arranged or advise sought by Johnny. Can't wait to return.
Everything was great, however the fridge was too small and could be replaced by a new one. French Polynesia is very expensive, homework is required to include all activities on the islands you wish to engage in.
Hello CAtherine, It was a great pleasure to have welcomed you in our pardise. You were like a member of our family and we were feeling at ease with you. Be safe and any time you will be welcomed here.

Verified reviewThe host is great, along with the gifts. We wish we had more time here. The place is a nice small beach cottage. Very simple, bare-bones accomodation.
To stay here, you definetely cannot be scared of dogs. They have a few guards dogs that take a day or two to learn that you are not an intruder. The place is hard to find. This can be easily fixed by just providing GPS coordinates. The listing seems to indicate that airport transportation is free, but it is actually not.
Hello, Thanks for your comments. Concerning shuttle airport, it is clearly noten on my confirmation of your booking that it is not free, there is a price and it has been writte. We have given you all instructions written and have even put it a flag to show our place, maybe you are too confident on your google map. Dogs you are the first one to complain, we had even people saying that they are afraid of dogs and did not complain as they were feeling good with them.

Verified reviewThe location was away from the main town, but still easily accessible by car. It was a nice quiet area along a bay with kayaks for use. The hosts are lovely people and invited me to lunch Saturday afternoon in their home with them and several French and Tahitian friends. I also went to church and a local market with the spry elderly mom on Sunday. This is a great place to stay if you want to get to know people who live here.
The stairs to the upper level where the bedroom is located are very steep. This is not a place for someone who has any significant mobility issues. But my knee had been bothering me for a few days, and I was able to handle it.
Thanks Jennifer. Was good to have you with us.

Verified reviewCan't say enough good things. Johnny was an amazing host and this spot is right on the water with a beautiful view of Huahine. There are kayaks you can use to paddle over to the small island or upriver. I loved meeting Johnny's sweet mum and this is really a way to experience life in Ra'iatea. Johnny gave me a custom tour of the island. Bring mosquito repellent, as they are plentiful on the island. A net was provided, so I slept well.
Thanks a lot Julia. Was great to have you around us and glad you were able to get the information you were looking for about the Marae de Taputapuatea. Stay safe

Verified reviewIncredible location with a deck right by the water’s edge. Perfect for sunrises. We ate at home every night so the kitchen is well equipped. The owner Johnny is very contactable, offers great local advice, does tours of the island (which we did and enjoyed) and he’s just a really nice guy. Would deffo stay here again.
The stairs up to the bedroom could be difficult for the elderly or disabled.
Thanks a lot for those moments we have shared together. To talk about our travels and life experiences were so nice. You will be always welcome and why not to see you in your place. Be safe Cheers Johnny

Verified reviewSuch a cute little ‘chalet’ in an amazing location, right on the water with a gorgeous Motu a short kayak away and the gorgeous ‘Amazon’ river kayak half an hour in the other direction.
There are a few mosquitos around but there is a net over the bed and ring your anti-mosquito spray

Verified reviewOur stay was great. The cabin is located in a quiet part of the island on the edge of a beautiful bay that you can swim, snorkel and kayak in. Johnny was also a great host and was very accommodating, driving us to get dinner each night and also bringing us to the market on the way from the airport. Johnny's mum was also lovely.

Verified reviewLoved our experiences at Fare Vahine Oviri - from the awesome welcome from Johnny and family, the 4 hour tour of the island with Johnny (the pilgrimage to Taputapuatea being the absolute highlight), snorkeling in the lagoon and even a meal with the family. The Fare is comfortable and well provisioned for self-catering. This delightful place is one of the best kept secrets in the whole Pacific.

You also have a wooden patio with palm trees, chairs, table and deckchairs. Special thanks to Nunu and her kindness with our little boy :)

Verified reviewFrench Polynesian hospitality at its finest. We were a party of 4 and Johnny and his family went above and beyond to make us feel at home at Fare Vahine Oviri. Quaint little lodge with spectacular views, stunning sunsets, snorkeling, paddle boarding, canoeing and more. They made it all very easy to experience Raiatea the way it should be experienced…. with the locals. If you are lucky enough to meet Mama nunu, she’ll brighten up your day with her infectious smile and story telling. Only downside were the mosquitos, so don’t forget your insect repellent. 😊
