How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewKookoo’s Nest came highly recommended by a friend and it did not disappoint. I needed a few days of peace and solitude and this was perfect. My room was clean and comfortable and right out of Swiss Family Robinson. The bathroom was clean and well equipped; great water pressure but no hot water, although it wasn’t necessary. I spent a good bit of time relaxing in the hammock. The food was excellent; lots of vegetarian options for me. The beer was COLD and on the honor system; write your name in the board and help yourself. The staff was friendly and helpful. I requested a kayak early in the morning and they accommodated me immediately; clear waters and a beautiful area to kayak btw. The beach is a treasure trove of beauty - shells, coral, tiny crabs, giant volcanic boulders, amazing scenery. And friendly dogs and cats, several from Dumaguete Animal Sanctuary, provided me with some critter love therapy. I had been warned of “all the stairs” but they were truly not an issue even at my old age; they weren’t terribly steep and had plenty of landings so they were not a struggle. I took a Ceres bus to the road that cuts off to Kookoo’s Nest, then caught a habel habel motorbike the rest of the way. It was easy as well as a fun adventure. My only regret is that I couldn’t stay longer. I will be back.
Loved everything

Verified reviewThe cottage view was beautiful. The cottage itself was very well maintained and very clean upon arrival. The resort location was easy to find. The resort facilities were clean and well maintained. The on-site restaurant was clean, well maintained and offered excellent food for reasonable prices.
The only negative is the price. It's a bit on the high side. However, this is the only negative remark that I can provide and it will not prevent me from visiting again.

Verified reviewYou’re surrounded with nature. It was peaceful and quiet.
Food from their restaurant was a 6.5/10. I think they need more staff for the restaurant especially during mealtimes. A bidet in the restrooms would’ve been better.

Verified reviewThis was a real desert island experience, waking up in the morning with the gentle sound of waves lapping against the beach 20 metres away, completely tranquil and relaxing break. If you are expecting air conditioning, a pristine made up bed every day and all the comforts of home then this isn’t the place for you. If however you were envious of Robinson Crusoe then this is the place for you. We loved every minute of it, the British owners are amazing and the staff are very accommodating, we snorkelled every day and saw different tropical marine life on every trip, we found Nemo several times over and discovered a place that we are going to visit many times in the future.
Having to leave after 2 amazing weeks.

Verified reviewReally an enchanting and magical place. The sea side cabins are rustic and open but are set up to be comfortable and have a truly unique vibe that makes them special. The resort has a great kitchen and serves a wide variety of food. All around my family and I had a blast and will be back!

Verified reviewGreat location on the beach! Staff and owners were very helpful. They even helped us organsie transport too and from Dumagete station, as well as a day trip to Apo island. The bungalows were so lovely and private, and my partner and I loved staying there. It was very peaceful and a great place to start our trip! Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing getaway where they don't have to lift a finger!

Verified reviewThe Kookoo's Nest ticked all the boxes for what we were looking for..... dream location with a secluded beach, comfortable lodge right by the beach and a wonderful menu cooked to perfection. What more could you ask for. The owners Nikki and James have created an oasis that is often fully booked therefore I would highly advise booking well in advance. WiFi in our lodge was good. Free water dispenser available all day. Our lodge was right on the beach which I would highly recommend as it saves you climbing up and down the stairs (although understand the views are better from on high). The whole place has a rustic vibe in a very good way. There are many activities available to suit everyone. The restaurant alone, which is open all day is well worth visiting, as the food is excellent and very reasonably priced. We had only booked two nights but could easily have stayed for a week but unfortunately it was all booked out. (Not surprising). I would have no hesitation in recommending Kookoo's Nest to family and friends alike.
