    Overall, the vibe was a bit off—not the staff’s fault, as they were likely just following the owner’s policies. They seemed to charge for everything—even a spoon I asked for. They also claimed to have the best scooter rental price, but we found a cheaper option nearby for 360 pesos.

    I rarely write reviews, but after six months of travelling around Asia, this was by far the worst service we've experienced. To begin with, I had important business meetings during two of the days we stayed, and the power repeatedly cut out, leaving me without light or WiFi—essential for my work. Despite my partner informing staff that I was in meetings, they continued knocking on the door for non-urgent reasons, which was incredibly disruptive. There was no hot water when we arrived, although staff did fix this eventually. However, the hot water shuts off late at night, so if you return late or work evenings, be prepared for a cold shower. One night we had no running water at all and were given a large tub of water to wash with. The food is overpriced and mediocre, though the pancakes were decent. Even with no other guests in the restaurant, food took at least 30 minutes to arrive. While I could have overlooked many of these inconveniences, the attitude of the female owner was unacceptable. She was cold, dismissive, and treated her staff poorly—particularly the Filipino workers, which made for an uncomfortable and unpleasant environment. I eventually chose not to speak to her at all due to the clear lack of respect she showed others. (The male owner, in contrast, was polite.) There are also excessive and unreasonable rules—for example, you're not allowed to bring in outside food or drink, and will be charged if you do. It felt like another way to squeeze money from guests, especially considering the inflated food prices on site. One particularly absurd moment was being threatened with a charge for a "stained" towel—caused by a small amount of mascara and concealer. I was told they’d need to buy an entire new pack of towels (yes, really) because that’s how they’re ordered. I explained that I use white towels at home and it would come out easily in the wash, and even offered to wash it myself.

My question is why did you extend your stayed and why every day you keep and ordered food if you didn’t like or is overpriced, since you stayed here you never make any complaints about it. During your stay, we experienced a brief power and internet interruption due to a local issue beyond our control — a known challenge when living on an island. Our staff requested permission from your partner to briefly cut general power for a quick repair, and the issue was resolved in under 10 minutes. The crepe offered was a gesture from us, the owners — not an independent act by staff — as a sign of goodwill during that time. We always aim to support our guests when unexpected disruptions occur. Hot water is normally available 24/7, and we addressed the initial issue promptly. A one-time interruption in running water was also resolved quickly. We understand these situations can be inconvenient and appreciate your patience. Regarding the food: meals are freshly prepared to order, which may take time. During your stay, only simple items like rice, omelets, crepe and pancakes were ordered. We believe it’s difficult to assess the full quality or pricing without trying a wider variety. Your remarks about staff treatment surprised us deeply. We value and respect every team member, including our Filipino staff, and are committed to maintaining a fair, supportive environment. It’s important to note that you never interacted directly with the owner because you never went out from the room for all entire stayed, — all communication was through your partner that communicated with the staff and we never had the opportunity to speak or greet you in person. As for the house rules — policies regarding food you missed understand and towels exist to protect our space and maintain standards. No charge was ever enforced, only a polite explanation that certain cosmetic stains may require replacement. Your offer to help was appreciated.     Absolutely spotless, the hotel is so well maintained and the room is comfortable with a nice hot shower. The pool area is great for relaxing with sun loungers and towels to use. The gym is great to keep you fit on your holidays. The owners of the hotel are so lovely and will be able to help you with anything you need. It was my birthday and they arranged flowers, balloons etc which was beautiful. They also took us on an island tour and arranged all of our transport when needed. And even stored our bags for a couple of days when we took an island trip. The staff are always around to answer any questions too. The location is great as it’s more of a local feel and not in the chaos of Alona and there is restaurants in walking distance or you can take a short ride to the busy town. Highly recommend booking this hotel for a stress free trip to Bohol

    Location was perfect for peace and quiet and also perfectly located for tours and Alona. It was immaculately clean and the bed was super comfy. Hot water in the fabulous shower was so needed too. The menu was a Mediterranean style and the food was outstanding. We ate every night there as it was so good. Our hosts Sorina and Mihai and the staff were all beautiful and super friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. . The pool was the cleanest and coolest out of all the properties we have stayed. Sunbeds around the pool for chilling and the staff will bring cushions when you’re using them. We had our laundry cleaned there also, beautifully folded and ironed. We explored the chocolate hills on ATV, visited Tarsier sanctuary, saw the most perfect sunsets ever …Thank you for the best 5 days .. we love you all 🥰

    Stayed 4 nights in Selectum Mangrove Resort. The resort is located in quiet place. There’s no disturbing noise but peaceful nature sound all the time. But it doesn’t mean that place is far away from the convenient facilities. We rent a scooter from resort, and it tooks about only 5min to alona beach area. Every facilities were super clean and comfortable. Pool is great to swim. It was clear that the owner is putting a lot of effort into maintaining the resort well. And most of all, every filipino staffs were super kind and helpful!! + We watched fireflies every night(on the big tree inside the resort)

    Weird atmosphere, owners make you feel like they don't want you there, anything you ask seems to get a sigh and a look that you are inconveniencing them and it feels like they are always looking for a way to charge you extra money.

    Selectum Mangrove Resort is located in a scenic area with beautiful palm trees, and the daily bottled water provided is a small, thoughtful gesture. However, despite the natural beauty, our experience was overshadowed by several issues. While the Filipino staff were kind and did their best, the atmosphere was negatively affected by the behavior of the European owners. The female owner in particular came across as cold and controlling, rarely greeting guests and often staring instead. It created a sense of judgment rather than hospitality, and it often felt like we were being watched or even talked about when walking past. There was also a strong sense of tight supervision over the staff, making the work environment feel uncomfortable and restrictive. There was also a man—possibly a relative—who stayed at the reception area in the evenings. He didn’t acknowledge guests, not even with a simple greeting, and we often saw him relaxing by the pool during the day. This lack of basic courtesy felt very unprofessional, especially in a small resort where guest interaction should matter. We were also charged ₱1000 for a makeup stain on a towel, which felt excessive and not in line with how other resorts handle similar situations. Housekeeping times were only mentioned in a contract and never explained to us verbally when we arrived, which led to some confusion and miscommunication. During our stay we even noticed a live crab in the swimming pool, which raised concerns about general maintenance, even considering the natural surroundings. Not ideal for a four star resort.  We do want to thank the nighttime Filipino lifeguard, who was genuinely kind and helpful. The local staff clearly do their best, but they work under management that lacks warmth and professionalism. Unfortunately, we left feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome, and wouldn’t recommend the resort unless there are significant changes in how it’s run.

Unfortunately, once a towel is stained beyond use, it can no longer be reissued to other guests. While the fee may feel high, it is based on the actual replacement cost of our linens, which we aim to maintain at a high standard for all guests. With regard to housekeeping, the times are indeed indicated in the registration form given at check-in. However, we understand this may not have been clearly communicated, and we will be more mindful in the future to ensure guests are well-informed upon arrival, especially when they are feeling tired from travel. (P.S. We didn’t want to disturb you while you were reading the registration form, since you seemed to be focused on it. We also didn’t want to come across as strange for double-checking, especially since you looked tired from your trip and not in the mood to talk.) Finally, regarding the crab in the pool—we are situated in a natural, coastal environment, and while we do regular checks and maintenance, occasional appearances from local wildlife are part of the setting. We understand this can be surprising and will continue to improve how we manage and communicate such occurrences to guests. Again, we sincerely apologize for any discomfort you experienced. We are committed to learning from this and improving, and we do hope that one day you might consider giving us another opportunity to offer you the stay you truly deserve.     The staff really really tried....

    Well...where to begin. The owner of this resort is the cheapest and pettiest I've ever experienced in all of my 45 years and 43 countries I've travelled to... Completely idiotic rules and or policies that they rudely pressured the staff to try to enforce... they tried making us leave our room key at reception when leaving the property... not a suggestion to avoid loss or damage charges but actually saying it was mandatory...which would leave our posessions completely unsecured? You can only put soo much in a room safe. They charged for ice with our drink even though we had purchased the most expensive meal on their menu (and didn't warn us about the extra charge)... the pool wasn't available until 9am. When we requested an exception as we are up early (we are also super quiet and respectful) they said sure and told us they would change it to 7am; however, every morning after that...they put up hazard and dangerous chemical signs...until about 8:30... most mornings. Otherwise 9am. The food was the most expensive for the area and yet the most disgusting meals we had while there (except the breakfasts were mediorce and the garlic prawns were good). Anything ordered from the kitchen took 45mins to an hour- and even a simple cocktail (gin and tonic) took about 25 to 30 minutes... because of this I tried preordering ahead of time... One morning the breakfast was brought to us, before we were ready for it, so we put it in the fridge... within about 5mins after we did that, they cleared the place settings and cutlery... after about 10 mins when we were ready to eat- I went to ask for the cutlery back- and was told there would be an additional charge... luckily when I explained the situation, one of the lead staff agreed to waive it. The vibe was extremely uncomfortable, as you could tell the staff really wanted to help us, be were constantly worried about having to enforce the stupid rules...

Leaving the key at reception does not compromise the security of your belongings; rather, it is intended to enhance safety. In the event of an emergency, such as a fire, since we found out that your key card was left in the room for (72 hours) without your presence in the resort, this procedure allows us to respond promptly to ensure your safety and that of the resort. We hope this clarifies our intention, which may have been misunderstood. Regarding the ice charge, this is part of our standard pricing structure. Since the ice was requested for a drink brought from outside, a charged was applied accordingly. Our pool hours are set to ensure both safety and hygiene. We adhere to strict procedures for water treatment, and our scheduled cleaning time is necessary to maintain proper sanitation. While we understand your request to use the pool at 5:00 AM, we extended our usual policy to accommodate you at 7:00 AM. This adjustment was made in an effort to meet your request while still allowing us time to clean the pool properly. Other guests have respected this schedule without complaint. We take pride in providing high-quality, freshly prepared meals. While there may occasionally be delays during busy periods, the majority of our guests have been satisfied with both the quality and timeliness of their meals. We acknowledge that your breakfast was once delivered earlier than expected in an attempt to compensate for a previous delay. Despite our efforts to meet your expectations, we regret that this was still perceived negatively. Please know that we genuinely tried to address your concerns, and we apologize if our efforts fell short. The matter involving cutlery was a misunderstanding, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused. While there is a charge for additional cutlery, this is part of our established resort policies. Our staff is dedicated to ensuring the best possible experience for our guests while maintaining the necessary policies to support safety and quality. While these guidelines may seem strict, they are essential to maintaining high standards for all visitors. Most of our guests have understood and accepted these rules without issue. We value your feedback and continually strive to improve our services. Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns, and we appreciate the opportunity to clarify these matters.     Good place if you like to stay away from buzz. Small and neat, helpful staff.

    The restaurant closed at 9, and their tour package was priced higher than average.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Regarding the tour package pricing, we always aim to provide quality experiences. We are also corporation so we must follow the rules with our partners while for other tour package is private, that’s why it is cheaper but we will take your input into account moving forward.     This is a great location away from the hustle and bustle off the main st. Down a laneway which is dark at night (nothing to do with this resort as it’s local owned) so need a torch. We ate breakfast there and done the job, staff and owners couldn’t be more helpful. Word of warning if you don’t like dogs then don’t come but if like me you love them then come here. But honestly who doesn’t like dogs Pool & Gym are perfect if you want to relax and have a small workout

    Small issues like not getting milk with the tea and being charged 25p for it, maybe an oversight but nothing major.
