How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewGood location, the space and the environment is very nice and relaxed, with a very nice lounge area to relax and enjoy the views. the staff are very nice and helpful.
As the name says, its a nature residence. You will be sleeping in private cottages in the middle of trees and bushes. So you expect having insects and nature all around you. However we were not lucky that our cottage was full of centipedes (not just one or two that you consider ignorable due to the nature of the place,, but 8 of them at once and big ones). We don't blame the hotel for this but anyway it was not a pleasant experience since we had to try to expel them before we could sleep calmly.

Verified reviewI was able to book for one night, most other Pico properties were min 2 nights. Ines was kind and let us check in early.
The bed and pillows were the most uncomfortable I think I’ve ever experienced in years of travelling to over 100 countries, we got zero sleep so were exhausted for our flight the next morning. The cabins are very basic which would be fine if they were half the price. The studio we stayed in was connected to another apartment and we could hear all their noise through the paper thin walls. The cost is way too high for the glamping style of the place.

Verified reviewA very warm welcome by the host who was very helpful in organizing a taxi for us the next day. We received all the information that we needed including advice for some restaurants at walking distance.
The restaurant at the resort was unfortunately not open

Verified reviewThe manager, Ines, was kind and helpful. The location is beautiful, and the apartments have all the necessary space and furniture
We booked it as a hotel room, but it is organised as apartments. It turned out that breakfast is served in the apartment, which is great, but one might be disappointed if expecting a hotel buffet

Verified reviewPeaceful and eco friendly
As it was a little way out of town It would have been perfect if the restaurant was open or if they offered a simple bar service when it was closed.

Verified reviewReceptionist Inês was very friendly and welcoming. Gardens surrounding the property are fantastic and create an atmosphere of privacy around the houses.
Pillows were not particularly comfortable. Place mats for breakfast were old and stained. Breakfast was basic, orange juice not freshly squeezed.

Verified reviewWe enjoyed our stay at this residence. Although it’s not located right in the city center, the walk to downtown wasn’t too long. The place was clean and located in a lush, green area that made the whole experience feel relaxing and close to nature. The courtyard was beautifully maintained, and the overall vibe was very peaceful. The staff were polite, friendly, and helpful throughout our stay.
The hot water in the shower ran out very quickly, which was inconvenient. For a place surrounded by nature, it was disappointing that the juice served at breakfast wasn’t fresh. The electric kettle in the kitchenette was plastic, and after boiling, the water had a strong plastic taste — not ideal for making tea or coffee. Also, there was no “Do Not Disturb” sign to hang on the door.

Verified reviewBeautiful setting in the woods, bird songs, views of the sea, comfortable lodging, breakfast delivered every morning, good location, restaurant on site.
The slight smell of Sulphur. The dryer didn't dry our clothes, but that may have been user error. The TV did not work for us either.

Verified reviewAlmo do Pico is a real find. Built under the trees, it is the perfect spot for a relaxing holiday. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Location is very close to the town center and other attractions. Like the rest of the Azores islands, you need a car.
The breakfast could be better. Perhaps most striking is to have your milk and coffee in capsules. It should not be very difficult to offer fresh coffee and milk in the Azores.
Dear Guest, Thank you very much for your feedback. We don´t have milk in capsules, only tea and coffe. The Milk you should have asked in the reception and we can guarantee it is from Azores. Warmest Regards, Alma do Pico Team

Verified reviewWe stayed in the 2 bedroom villa, aptly named "the palace" by the staff. The villa was so beautiful and very spacious. It has been finished to a very high standard, with a very well stocked kitchen for all cooking needs and 2 beautiful bathrooms, one with a shower and the other a bath. The was so much outside space with stunning views out the front of Mount Pico and the back overlooking Faial island. Every member of staff were incredible and so friendly, nothing was too much to ask for. There is a pool and restaurant on site but we did not use either, it was a bit too cold (late April) to use the pool. The location of the property is pretty good, was a nice leisurely stroll of 20-30 minutes into the centre of Madalena, and there is a large supermarket just down the road (about 5 minutes walking). We did hire a car to explore the island and there was always ample parking. Overall we had a wonderful time staying here and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting the Azores.
A bit of a personal preference but the mattresses were incredibly firm, probably the firmest mattress I've even slept on, which for me was a little uncomfortable.

Verified reviewLovely bungalows tucked away in nature, just outside Madalena—perfectly located. The bungalows were spot on: clean, cozy, beautifully decorated, and well-equipped. The team at Alma do Pico was incredibly friendly and gave us lots of great tips. Breakfast was delivered to our door each morning, always fresh and made with care.
Nothing
