Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandDon't book if you don't want to wait for the bathroom or hear other people during the night, walls are pretty thin and the doors can be a bit tricky to close.
Perfect location, central to both sides of the city and on a busy street. Was quiet from around 12:00 am, then the cafes packing up until 2:00 am. Nice little balcony. Shared bathroom has everything you'd need and a kitchen if required. Clean, comfortable. Easy bag storage and good communication.

SerbiaAlthough the cleaners tried their best, the small room and the crowd on the floor, waiting in line for the bathroom is what gives a bad impression of the apartment itself. In other major European cities, for the money they ask for in Lisbon, you get an entire apartment furnished according to the latest fashion.
The location is what sells this apartment. When you open the balcony door and make coffee, you will have the impression that you are in a cafe under the apartment.

LithuaniaOur private bathroom was separate from the room and in order to reach it we had to cross the hallway and kitchen and there were many cameras on every corner. Quite a strange feeling to be under constant surveillance even while going to the bathroom. Wasn't a nice experience. We knew the bathroom is going to be outside the room, but we weren't informed about so many cameras. After checking out (since our flight was in the evening) we had to pay extra money in order to keep our luggage in the structure. This is the first time in my many years of traveling that a structure asks to pay for keeping luggage after a stay. In the end they ar least made a small discount for us.
The location was perfect - it was on the central street.

FinlandI’m not sure if it was mentioned in the instructions that the entrance is through a souvenir store so it took me a little while to find the entrance. Maybe it was just me though.
The most central location you can find. The receptionist was very friendly and everything from check-in to check-out was very easy and convenient. Definitely worth the price. The room was a little bigger than I expected which was nice.

PortugalIt's very basic. You feel very much in a youth hostel without sharing a bedroom. The laundry is piled up. The kitchen feels a bit chaotic and unclear how it is being used by guests. The floors are wooden so you hear people coming in and out all day. Nowhere to hang the shower head, you have to hold it over you. I think this is a water restruction measurement but is very difficult for washing long hair or shaving legs etc.
For the price it represents good value in Lisbon. Great central location. Room was ready a little early for us. Balcony is nice to get fresh air in. Bed was quite comfy.

BrazilMaybe could have a cabinet at the kitchen to keep some dry food.
Firstly, the location is exactly in the city center, very close to everything, the entrance is through the souvenir shop and the hostel is on the first floor. All doors use super secure electronic locks. I stayed in the room with a private bathroom for 7 days, nothing to complain about, they offer 1 free cleaning as well as a change of towels during this period. The kitchen is well equipped with a refrigerator, stove and microwave, making it possible to dine on site in peace. Check-in was very smooth, if you arrive early there is somewhere to store your bags or if you arrive later the room is also ready and as we received access via booking there were no problems accessing the room and kitchen. The attendants are very attentive, I had more contact with Katia, who was always very helpful and friendly.
