How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewNothing, only the staff but everything was terrible. Rooms were old, no Wi-Fi in the rooms, bed was super uncomfortable, electricity to charge telephone was only available if the light was turned on so quite absurd because we paid around 55 each person for night
Because we paid for no service

Verified reviewthe perfect location for us, we had a beautiful view from the room, I want to mention that we were pleasantly surprised by the girls who clean the room, very nice and do their job very well. Overall it was good but some nuances need to be changed because they create discomfort for the guests!
We were a little disappointed that in such a big hotel there was no iron, we went to the reception and they told us that they didn't have one, we were ready to pay for such a service but they didn't have one, that's a big minus, plus there's still no wi-fi in the rooms, it's only at the reception which wasn't mentioned from the beginning which still created discomfort, there's a small kitchen in the room, I asked for a kettle to boil coffee in, the girls at the reception said they didn't have one and that I searched in vain because the hob doesn't work anyway and when I tried the hob it worked perfectly, so I don't even know that the hob works.
Dear Mrs Doina, Thank you for your review. We’re glad you enjoyed the location, the view, and the housekeeping service. We also appreciate your comments regarding the iron, Wi-Fi, and kitchen equipment — your suggestions are valuable and help us improve. We hope to welcome you again soon Sincerely, Dom Pedro Garajau Team

Verified reviewWe stayed just for one night and it was good. The hotel is a bit dated but you can expect that from the photos. We liked the breakfast eventhough there wasn't much variety in the food choice. We liked the garden pool. For a short term accommodation it's really fine.
There is no parking around the hotel. You can park in the street in front of the hotel but need to pay on weekdays during working hours.
Dear Guest, Thank you for your review. We're glad you enjoyed your short stay, the breakfast, and the garden pool. We appreciate your comments on the hotel's condition and parking, and will take them into account to improve our services. Sincerely, Dom Pedro Garajau Team

Verified reviewStaff was nice and helpful, good location, gardens were really nice. It was also clean. Some times there was live music in the bar, could be more often.
Breakfast was poor, lack of variety and the taste of some stuff missing. We had a room with door locked with another room and could hear other guests often and clearly.

Verified reviewJust outside Funchal ,the bus stop is outside Dom Pedro and is a 20 minute ride for 2.60 euros . Staff were very friendly and helpful . Rooms were cleaned every day . Food was very good but repetitive, but lacking in imagination.coffee in an evening would have been nice after the meal , stingy with the wine .
Not much happening , no entertainment in the evening other than a Friday night singer , no Gym facilities ,only an aged football table which was out of order , a table tennis table with ripped bats , the indoor pool was a good size , the outdoor not so much , the beds were uncomfortable and had old wooden blankets on them . No air conditioning, no fans in the bathroom , dated bath and shower , old brown threadbare towels , cheap toilet paper . This hotel needs some investment and modernisation, it’s stuck in a 1980’s time warp , much like a hi he hi holiday camp , boring , would I stay again , no I would not .
Dear David, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you appreciated the friendliness and helpfulness of our staff, the daily room cleaning, and the convenient transport access to Funchal. It's also great to know you enjoyed aspects of the food and our indoor pool. We sincerely regret other elements of your stay did not meet your expectations. Your comments regarding the entertainment options, room comfort, gym facilities, and general maintenance have been noted with great attention. Your observations will be shared with management as we continue working toward improvements. We would be delighted in welcoming you back in a not too distant future. Sincerely, Dom Pedro Garajau Team

Very crowded at breakfast and rather frenzied. The choice of food was ok but not special. The toaster took ages to work!

Verified reviewThe staff were so helpful, helped us book a trip to see the island. Breakfast was basic but plenty of food kept coming out. The bus is over the road into funchal, so easy to get around. There is a top restaurant over the road Antonio's, food beautiful and excellent value for Money.
No air con in room, but with the balcony doors open all night we kept cool.

Verified reviewLocation is good, easy to find and not far from Funchal, airport etc. Nice staff at the lobby. Economical and good enough for staying during the last days before leaving Madeira from the airport. Good "chocolate com leite" at the restaurant... While you stay here, the area around the Christ statue in Garajau (Miradouro do Cristo Rei) is definitely worth to visit.
The hotel is a bit run down (>30 years old?) and could use some renovation. Shower is above a slippery bathtub, dangerous to use for older people. Wifi only in the lobby (Hotel consists of a number of separate buildings). (Paid, albeit very cheap) parking on the street, which is the very busy main street at Garajau, a nuisance to enter/get out of the car from the street side,
