How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewFabulous location -- central and with great views of the castle. There are so many small restaurants and cafes around. There is AC in every room (though it's extremely weak, it took almost 8 hours for it running in "Powerful" mode to cool down the apartment to a reasonable temperature). The living room is small and though it's supposed to fit 4 people I struggle to see how they could all fit around the small table. The beds are comfortable; I was grateful for having multiple pillows because they're pretty thin. The water comes in hot and quick. There is a washer, but no place to hang clothes; it seems to have a drying function (based on icons because there were no instructions), but it didn't work. The hosting company communicates daily, though getting things solved takes on occasion multiple back-and-forth. They do clean once a week for longer stays (you get 1 day heads-up).
First of all this was the most invasive check-in experience in multiple stays in Portugal and all of Europe. I wouldn't have been surprised if they asked me to provide a blood sample to pass the screening (joking, but it did feel invasive). To make matter worse they only send you the check-in instructions AFTER the check in time. I'm having to wait in 40+C / 100+F degree weather with absolutely nobody from the management company answering the phones. The cleanliness leaves a bit to be desired: there was quite a large number of ants swarming the countertops and the balcony is full of pigeon poop. It took about two days for them to deliver an insect spray. To their credit the rest of the place was cleaned well. Despite being a washer there's no place to hang clothes and I'd be hesitant to string them on the filthy balcony anyway. Smallest shower I ever encountered; I'm 182cm / 6ft and couldn't bend in the shower; ironically, the rest of the bathroom is of a decent size. There are only two small knives in the kitchen. Be mindful that the coffee maker doesn't automatically stop so it'll overflow and leak over.

Verified reviewAccommodation in an excellent location, the apartment matches the photos shown in the internet link! The place where we stayed is close to all the main sights in the city of Tomar. The apartment itself is very clean, comfortable, and also artistically arranged!
We didn’t like that the smoke detector alarm suddenly went off early in the morning for no reason. However, after discussing it with the hosts, the issue was addressed.

No human beings ever. As friendly as an icicle. Part of the joy of travel is interactipn with locals. None in this apartment. Minimal information on the locality, proximity to a minimercado, preferred places to eat, etc

Gaining access to the flat was very difficult. Although I’d made the booking & filled in the numerous required forms several times, they would not go through till I finally placed my partner as No,1 guest and myself as No. 2. I also paid with my own credit card and had an €250 hold placed on it as a bond. Nevertheless, access details were sent to my partner, not to me. So after a long drive, we spent an anxious half hour or so, sitting outside the flat, trying to talk to the landlords and repeatedly checking my phone. It was only when we finally found suitable parking (not easy) that my partner was able to get out his phone and see that the access instructions had been sent to him, not me. This seems to me to be a blatant and annoying piece of sexism.

It is a legal requirement in Portugal, and we do our best to make the process as simple as possible and avoid any last-minute issues on the day of arrival. Regarding the security deposit, we understand that it may raise questions. We always communicate this requirement at several points, both on Booking.com and in our confirmation messages. As we do not have a reception or on-site staff, this measure is important to ensure the safety of all guests and to prevent any unwanted situations. As for the access instructions, they are automatically sent to the first guest listed on the form. The system does not take into account names or gender, only the order in which the information is entered. Since the form was updated and your partner was listed first, the instructions were sent to him. We’re sorry that this caused you any discomfort. We were also saddened to only learn about your dissatisfaction now, as our communication during your stay gave us the impression that everything was going smoothly. We truly value open communication and would have appreciated the chance to clarify things, and perhaps even offer a small gesture to ease the stress caused. Verified reviewWe booked this apartment at short notice and the proprietors were kind enough to make arrangements so we could check in earlier (the official check in time was 4pm). The apartment was centrally located close to the Old Bridge. It was cool and quirky inside. It had a glazed balcony like a conservatory with two comfortable chairs leading to a large outside terrace with more chairs. The terrace was great for drying washing. The bedroom had a large comfortable bed and the bathroom had an excellent shower with lots of hot water. The kitchen was well equipped with a washing machine and microwave/combi oven. The open plan kitchen had a comfortable sofa to watch TV plus a table and two chairs to dine at. The apartment was very secure with a combination lock on the street door and two keys to open an outer door shared by two apartments and then the door to access the apartment.
The proprietors operate fully online and I had to fill in check in forms, download and sign a rental agreement and provide bank account details so they can take a 250 euros deposit even though the booking and payments were made via booking.com. This was quite difficult to do on my fairly new Android phone. However, the oven was situated high up in cupboards and we felt this could be dangerous when taking hot food out of the oven. My wife couldn't reach it. There was a small wooden stool you could stand on to access the oven but this was a bit of a trip hazard when passing through the kitchen to the bathroom at night. The apartment came with a small basket of foods, however, the butter was in the fridge and amounted to one small pat of butter I'm sure this wasn't intended - see photo.

Verified reviewCosy little apartment with all amenities ideal for a couple maybe a little tight for more if you are there for a longer stay , great idea to have a folder in several languages that covers every appliance in the unit , shower is good no cold shocks , parking directly opposite for free and never had a problem finding a place. Tomar is a lovely historical town with a lot of things to see and do particularly daytrips to surrounding areas we did not have enough time to do everything we wanted, terrific communication from managers. Its self check in and we felt help and advice would be quickly available should it be required.....good spot to stay that we really enjoyed.
There can be some floor noise from above most people are considerate some are not .

Verified reviewThe apartment was literally across the street from a parking lot with free parking. It was also situated in a very convenient location near to excellent restaurants and a beautiful park. The apartment was very secure and updated. The hosts left a welcome basket which was unexpected but very nice! The outdoor space was not used because of the cold rainy weather but would have been a great place to enjoy a drink or dinner. We would stay here again.
