How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Verified reviewIn general the service was very good. However, the receptionist made a mistake in charging us an extra day for the parking (another 14€). Also, we understood originally in the description of the hotel, that the parking was included. It may have been discounted, but it's a public parking. I recommend the hotel the receptionists Ana and Pamela or Paulina (I don't remember very well) were very helpful.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL IF YOU CAN! We booked a room at Hotel Luena on our way from Algarve to Lisbon early June of 2025. When we arrived at the hotel at night they said that we could not stay in the hotel, because our daughter (10 YO) did not had a valid ID with picture on it! They said, “they couldn’t accommodate us because of their local laws in Portugal”. After a phone call to the receptionist’s boss and a lot of arguing, we were sent out in the streets of Lisbon, at night! Our daughter was very upset, because she felt it was her fault! We took a few phone calls and finally found another hotel in Lisbon, no problems without a valid ID, we were obviously her parents! More than the double cost, but a much better hotel! We paid €193,82 for the room at Hotel Luena that we did not even see and got a total of € 8 back for not using the room! €185,82 for an argument in the lobby is not what I was looking for” One month later, a lot of e-mails to booking.com, but the hotel still is not willing to give us any money back! That is why I am writing this review! How can they accept bookings the same day with these regulations? The e-mail with the rules came after we booked the room and placed our credit card details! Did they have more guests than rooms that night? Do they speculate in this? I don’t know, but I am wondering! Stay away from this hotel if you can, there are a lot of much better options in Lisbon! PS! They also claim to have parking; this is a long way from the hotel and very difficult to find! There are a lot of hotels in Lisbon, pick one of those for your stay in the beautiful city of Lisbon!

Your reservation was made on the same day as your arrival, and immediately after the booking was confirmed, our team sent an email outlining the necessary documentation required for check-in, as per the Portuguese legal framework. In Portugal, it is a legal obligation for all accommodation providers to register and report the identity of all guests, including minors, to the Immigration and Border Services (SEF). This requirement applies equally to Portuguese nationals and to foreign visitors, and valid identification is necessary for every guest, regardless of age. Unfortunately, at the time of your arrival, there was no valid identification, either physical or in digital format, for your daughter, which placed us in a position where we were legally unable to proceed with the check-in. As a licensed hospitality establishment, we must strictly comply with these regulations, and not doing so could result in significant legal consequences for the hotel. We understand how frustrating this must have been for you, especially after a long journey. However, we would like to clarify that the room you reserved was held exclusively for you and could not be resold to another guest. In cases of genuine overbooking, hotels in Portugal are legally required to arrange suitable alternative accommodation for guests, but this was not the case here. We can assure you that there was no bad faith or intention to inconvenience you — our team simply had to follow the legal requirements in place. We regret that our resolution did not meet your expectations. We truly value your feedback and will continue to review our communication processes to ensure that the necessary check-in requirements are as clear and visible as possible at the time of booking. I didn’t like about the property the variety of food at breakfast and the rooms are a bit small for a group but for a couple just the right size!

While the hotel itself is not positioned as a high-end or luxurious property, it more than makes up for it with its exceptional service and dedicated staff. From the moment we arrived, the team went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. A special thank you goes to the reception staff Rodilf & Caio, whose professionalism, warmth, and helpful attitude truly enhanced our stay. One particularly memorable moment was on the evening of my birthday. To my surprise, the operations manager had thoughtfully arranged a handwritten birthday note and a bottle of champagne in the room — a kind and personal gesture that meant a lot to me and showed how attentive the staff are to their guests. Breakfast each morning exceeded expectations. It was well-organized, fresh, and had a wide selection of options that catered to various preferences. Everything needed for a wholesome and satisfying meal was available, and it was replenished regularly. The 24-hour reception was a great convenience, especially for guests arriving late or needing assistance at any time. Our room was cleaned and neatly arranged on a daily basis, which contributed to the overall sense of care and attention maintained throughout the hotel. In terms of location, Hotel Luena is very well situated. It’s close to a Metro station and has several bus stops nearby, making it easy to navigate Lisbon. The surrounding area also has a good range of restaurants, cafes, and supermarkets, adding to the overall convenience of the stay. In summary, Hotel Luena might not offer luxury on the surface, but it certainly delivers in heart, hospitality, and quality of service — and that’s what made our stay truly enjoyable.

Verified reviewThe staff is very friendly. The hotel is close to the metro station (green line), less than 5 minutes' walk away. It is very clean. Towels are changed every day.
