How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.

Verified reviewI stayed at this hostel, which is advertised through Booking. I ended up in the pharmacy due to a bedbug infestation; I have bites all over my body, legs, arms, stomach (and other parts I prefer not to mention). The fact is that this accommodation has reviews on booking.com for more than 6 months where clients warn that the hostel has bedbugs and share photographs of the insects and the infestation—something I discovered only after finishing my stay. Both Booking and the Hostel are aware of the existence of this bedbug infestation for over half a year, and despite this, they continue renting rooms to tourists as if nothing were happening. This could spread the infestation to other areas due to their irresponsibility, causing physical harm and health risks to their guests. Reactions to bedbug bites are very individual, sometimes appearing up to two weeks after being bitten, meaning that many more guests have probably been affected. At the time of leaving the apartment they might have shown no symptoms but later developed bites days or weeks after their stay, potentially carrying the bedbugs with them to their homes or other places in the peninsula and the continent. I demand compensation for damages and lost clothing, which we had to throw away to prevent spreading the infestation with us.

Toilets and showers are located in the same room… if you want take a shower or brush your teeth you will also have to experience other people doing their nature call. No wifi, no AC while it is +35 outside. We were literally dying in the rooms and were not able to sleep. Breakfast is ok

Verified reviewI loved the location, easy to get just about anywhere in/around Porto. The patio was a nice space to relax and the common area was a great way to meet people.
The rooms get so hot. We had two fans going and the windows wide open and couldn’t get the place to a normal temperature.

Small mixed dormitory in this heat. Some people did not clean after themselves after using the toilet but that's not the staff's fault but needs to be mentioned. Also the lock of the toilet in the lounge area needs to be fixed, too hard to unlock

There are bed bugs on the sofa in the living room! The bathroom floors (made of wooden planks) are really dirty! The 12 bed dorm is horrible during summers as there is no AC (or atleast the small thing on the corner isn't enough to cool the entire room). Also, you keep on banging your head on the attic wall. There is no washroom on that floor so very inconvenient. The wifi is really really bad!

-The room is very hot even with the windows open it won't be enough, especially if you are not close to the window -The bed is very shaky, meaning even the smallest movements from the person below you will wake you up. I woke up up so many times, and it wasn't a calm way of waking up but a surprising one. To be fair, it really depended on the person below me. He had a lot to drink the night before and probably was the reason why he was moving a lot. But the beds would still move even if the person in the bottom moved just a little bit, so I think it would not have made a significant difference overall. Personally, I decided this would be my last time booking a hostel after experiencing this...

My bed was in the eaves in the attic on level 3. The ceiling was low and banged my head twice! No windows, only electric blower which wasn’t big enough to cool the room. It was very hot even in June! Toilets and showers on level 2. Cold water in the shower. Toilet broken for over 24 hours.
