Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe fire alarm system went off on the first night of our stay - continued for at least 10-15 minutes before residents left their room (Ocean Suites) to see what was going on at reception. This happened at just a few minutes past midnight. There was no-one at reception whilst the fire alarm continued going off. It required one of the residents to call the main reception (from behind the desk where reception staff would be based) at the Pine Cliff Hotel (situated physically away from the Ocean Suites area) to inform them/advised security to assess the risk. This disturbed rest for myself and family on the first night. Residents were clearly upset and left in dismay about the above. For a 5 star resort and '5 star prices' there was suboptimal. Concern is if there was a real fire, what the health + safety repercussions would have been.
- Room/house-keeping - 8/10 - On-site restaurants - 7/10 - OPescador; fresh prawns/wholesome meal, over-priced however - Piri Piri Steakhouse - would return - service + food were spot on - Mare beach restaurant - one visit was enough - poor service and food quality - Jardim Colonial breakfast - average selection/fresh fruit was lovely and the daily fresh orange juice was a nice touch - Childrens activities incl. the bungee, electric cars and animal club was lovely

PortugalNow let me start by stating the high expectation I had for this property for the size, the fame and the longevity as supposedly one of Algarve's best resorts. Unfortunately I felt that so many things could be better that overall it was a letdown for the price. This is low season but the resort felt almost full. Regarding ocean suites, the newest part of the resort: - the halls decor is tasteless, mixing old and weird patterns, feels dated and boring. - breakfast facilities are in Colonial Garden in main building which is way small and just ugly. There are so many amazing Portuguese tiles I just don't understand the design options at all, the location is also terrible for a huge landscape like this, feels like a cramped corner place. With the amazing sea views of the resort aren't there any better places on the entire property? Not to mention the chairs are very high for the pairing table. I would completely close this space and change to a new one. - the spa. It is ok with several treatments and saunas but again the place seems cramped. - indoor pool. A huge renovation is in need. The struture is ok but new tiles or something interesting is in need for those colder days. Plus old rusty furniture around the pool is just not acceptable for this standard. - gym could get crowded, needs more space. - overall I felt the property needs a deep investment in uplifting almost all the central core facilities, the restaurants, the main outdodor square (terrible looking kids machines in the core of the square), the main pools, and overall better design everywhere with more attention to the details. It can be old but beautifull, not old, boring and even rusty. Marriott should consider a big name designer to rebirth this property. There is soo much space... The only part it really shines is in the sunset sea view bar which is great.
Must can be said about this property and the potencial it has. A stunning location on one of Portugal's best beaches, huge grounds, golf fields, huge scattered pine trees and a true heritage feeling. At the ocean suites the bed and linens were great, typical high standard Marriott, providing amazing confort. The AC works fine, silently, as well as the bathroom ventilation. Room size is quite good and the overall design is ok. Breakfast food quality is good, not amazing. Cleanliness is very good, although I found a dead cockroach in the corner of the room. The resort is huge, there is always a serene silent place somewhere.

United KingdomReception tried to add on a credit when I checked in & when I queried & they eventually took that off they ended up charging me 40 euros more than the price I booked the stay through booking.com. Send an email but have not had a response. Disappointing ☹️
Ocean suites are beautifully presented, well equipped with lots of space for a family.

United KingdomWe had a lovely stay and thoroughly enjoyed it - we will be coming back but three areas need improvement. Restaurants are overpriced which you expect at a resort but the additional suggested tip (on everything) of 10% is really cheeky. This should be removed. The beach is not a 5* hotel experience - 3* at best. Tightly packed sun loungers, no beach bed service and no food until midday is quite poor. The kids area needs some investment. Two slides and one set of swings isn’t enough for the size of resort. The trampolines were all locked away. The mini golf needs a lot of work.
Great selection of pools and restaurants with some nice kids activities plus beach access was nice. The shaded grassy areas around the pools offer nice respite from the hot sun with great views over the sea. This was a really lovely area for our young kids to explore and run around and great for young babies. Mirador cliff side bar was stunning. The pool at the Residence / Casa Pine Cliffs was by far the best pool (especially for kids) and much warmer / modern than the hotel pool. Highly recommend. O’Grill restaurant offered wonderful food and views and represented the best value for money. Piri Piri stakehouse was fabulous with exceptional food and incredible staff (especially with young kids). The kids area was good but needed some love. Overall we had a great stay

CanadaThe resort is the best of several highly-rated resorts we visited in the area. Located on a beautiful cliff, with private beach access (via a lift). Very spacious, with multiple pools, garden and beach restaurants offering a variety of food, a nice water spa (available to ocean suites visitors), sport facilities (golf, tennis, etc.) and several kids playgrounds. The rooms were spacious, well-designed and comfortable. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. We enjoyed the place very much and would definitely come back.

United KingdomThe resort restaurants are a little over-priced and there isn't much choice. In years gone by the O'Grill restaurant was our favourite and the buffet style or a la carte menus were amazing. Sadly, the menu is now limited. Ideal for families with kids (there were a few families with pre-school age kids) and great for lunch but not much choice for our evening meal. If you like fish the local restaurants are absolutely superb.
Third stay at the Ocean Suites and Seventh stay at the Pine Cliffs Resort - safe to say we like it, a lot! We've stayed in all areas of the resort/different types of accommodation which are all wonderful however the Ocean Suites is now our choice. It's just lush - especially for adults. The rooms are cleaned every day with fresh towels and toiletries provided. The beach is lovely and the grounds are beautifully maintained and wonderful for a stroll however, for relaxing, we choose the pool area which is just perfect and peaceful. Of course, being able to travel outwith school holidays is a bonus. Breakfast is fabulous and not to be missed. The staff are wonderful, so helpful, nothing is too much trouble.
