Reviews of HI Alfeizerão – Pousada de Juventude

I had read some reviews about this place beforehand. It definitely wouldn’t have been my first choice to book, but I was a solo walker passing through Portugal and needed a place to stay overnight in that area. The place pleasantly surprised me. It had incredibly scenic views, a huge lounge and kitchen area, very friendly and welcoming owners and staff, and absolutely amazing breakfast. The downside, as many others have mentioned, is the accessibility – it’s extremely difficult to reach if you’re a walker or cyclist. Safety is practically nonexistent. At first, I tried getting there through the forest via a small path, but it was abandoned and completely overgrown. Don’t go that way – it’s really not passable. The only other option was the main road, which had heavy traffic – trucks, cars speeding by, and motorbikes. I had to walk right along the edge of the road. It was very scary. Other than the stressful walk, the place itself was great. I think it’s much better suited for those on a road trip by car.

The staff is perfect, the breakfast is always good, the house itself is quite quirky.

The hostel is on a highway without proper shoulders, getting there by bike is hell, especially at night. Zero security. Bring ear plugs. The windows are not double, and the hostel is surrounded by two highways, and you hear cars all night. It’s not the hostel’s fault, they are trying their best. Because of “carmagedon” I’d say this place is, alas, ruined.

The facilities are good, the bed was comfortable and the cleaning was good. You have a good view but since it's next to the road, outside is a bit noisy but you don't hear it in the room. For breakfast you have the regular things (bred, coffee, jam, ham, cheese, milk, yogurt, ...). It would be nice to include vegetable milk and yogurt.

Quirky hostel in the middle of nowhere but excellent facilities , friendly staff and cleanest hostel I've stayed in. Plus free safe motorbike parking.

Just the location is abit remote, It's a good 20 minutes drive to Nazare.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Although the hostel is not in town, it is very easy to get to by car, and there was ample parking. Our room was very spacious and comfortable and clean. The views are stunning. The hostel had great facilities for those who were self-catering and also had catering available. On our last morning, there was an area-wide power failure. Despite this, the staff still ensured that breakfast was available. Breakfast was ample, and a great selection was available for all tastes.

They have a kitchen onsite, dunno why they don’t do basic food in the evening🤔 our stay was out of season tho 👍
