How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewFriendly staff, centrally located, kitchen with freezer, practical and simple check out. It's also near some good coffee bars in a more "hipster-ish" area of Lagos
Beds were a bit hard so didn't sleep that well (also due to the fan), the bathroom could have been organized a bit better so that more people can use it at the same time (that was not really an issue when I was there). For some people the surroundings might be a bit noisy due to the other hostel below and a popular burger restaurant next door.

Verified reviewReally nice value for money, even for Algarve. Very friendly staff. Possibility to leave luggage after checkout. Possibility to use common space (kitchen etc) even after checkout. Nice balcony with possibility to dry the clothes. Decent kitchen. Considering it was a hostel, really nice stay!
Ladies bathroom what really claustrophobic and uncomfortable. To use the bathrooms comfortably, it was the best to lock the whole bahroom, not letting anyone else in.

Verified reviewGood location - close to restaurants and not a far walk to beaches. Staff were helpful and friendly. Rooms were comfortable enough, decent size and lockers were fine size. Had a washing machine which was a bonus.
Kitchen wasn’t always clean and tidy - obviously this can be due to the people staying but I didn’t think it was upkept well. Woman’s bathroom was TINY! No privacy in the toilet or showers.

Verified reviewThe rooms were ok, there are free food shelves in the kitchen.
The beds shake a lot/make a lot of noice and you can’t use the lockers/drawers when someone is in the bottom bunk. There is one fan for four beds. Lot of noice from the street but they stop quite early. The bathrooms are a joke unfortunately, there is no privacy, they are tiny tiny and no reel door, feels very uncomfortable if someone is in the room at the same time. You can’t even pass another person when someone is in there, but there are still two showers and two toilets in the same space.
Thank you for your review. We know the bathrooms unfortunately are small and narrow, we don't hide it since we have pictures of it and by reading other people's reviews anyone can see that it is the most complaint we get nevertheless they have everything that is needed and the door can be locked for full privacy. About the noise we are in the city centre in the middle of high season so there's a high probability to get some noise from outside at some point during the day and night. The lockers seemed to be working fine with or without someone being on the bottom bed so I don't really know what happened regarding that and you say we have a high price but we are one of the cheapest hostels in town with a good rating score so if you think paying 32e a night at the end of July during peak season is a high price I really don't know what do you expect to be paying. I also would have appreciated that you had told me all of these things at checkout and not get a surprising 5* review since I asked if everything was alright and you responded yes that you had a good time.

Female toilets are a bit small, this space could be better for males as we (females) usually have more shower/daily care products and the current male toilets is a bit bigger

⚠️ Warning – Likely Bed Bug Issue ⚠️ I stayed at this hostel and woke up with over 20 bites—lined and clustered across my stomach. I had spent 7 nights in other accommodations with no problems, but after just 2 nights here, I left covered in bites. I raised the issue with the owner, who inspected the room and claimed there were no signs of bed bugs. Regardless of what was found, the evidence is on my skin. Because of this, I could no longer enjoy the beach and had to spend additional time and money washing and drying all my belongings at high heat as a precaution. No refund or compensation was offered. It’s unfortunate, because the hostel is beautiful and the staff are kind and polite—but travelers should be aware of this serious concern.
This is an incredibly unfair review given that everything was good, we are a clean place, the staff was kind and nice but since you got bitten by something while in Lagos it ends up coming to the hostel's fault when there's zero proof of this occurring at the hostel. We take all the measures with a fumigation company to avoid having any types of bugs, they come in every few months with products to prevent having them and they were just here the week before this claim of being bitten happened and we keep regular checks on all the mattresses and rooms to avoid having some sort of infestation. After receiving the information about you being bitten we check the entire room for any bugs or even evidence of anything being there and that might have caused the biting but there ain't a single evidence that points out towards that claim, no blood on the sheets, no marks of any bug being around on the mattress or the walls, nothing. The room had 3 other guests in it for 5 days (they arrived before and left after the period you stayed here) and no one complained about any bugs, the person who stayed before on the bed that you stayed didn't complain about any bugs nor the person we currently have right now on that same bed. The conclusion I take from this is or you got bitten somewhere else like at the beach (just because you had line and clusters across your stomach doesn't mean it's bed bugs, could be a flee for example) or yourself had already some bug with you without knowing when you checked in at the hostel from the place you stayed previously or even from the bus to get here. And asking for a refund when there is no proof or signs or claiming 20 bites but no blood on your sheets it's difficult to say we "likely" have bed bugs because with that quantity of bites we would have found multiple bugs but we don't even see a single evidence of maybe one being there. Thanks for the review.

Verified reviewThe location is great and the guys who did our check in and check out were nice. The room for 2 is decent with comfortable beds. Kitchen is also decent. Password system to access the hostel is efficient, as it is the card system to lock the room’s doors.
The bathroom was really dirty all the days we stayed there, there was for example one dirty hand towel (with a very suspicious brown stain) that was there since the day we arrive until the day we left, the floor was also quite disgusting. The bathroom also has a very strange setting, with 2 toilets side by side with no door facing the mirror. Also although there is 2 toilets and 2 showers people kept closing the bathroom by key when they were using it, which was a problem when we were in a rush to use it. Clearly that is an apartment that was adapted into a hostel. Also the window curtain in the double room doesn’t go down so people who have trouble sleeping with light may find it a problem.

Verified reviewThe girls at the reception are the best!! Very kind, friendly, they went out with us later when they closed the reception and showed us around. The room was also good and clean.
The shower is so so tiny, you cannot turn around yourself in the shower. And also there is no shelf to leave anything in the bathroom. The worst thing is that you cannot really close the door at the toilet bowl. There is a whole between two toilets, maybe that can me fixed. Everything else was ok.

Verified reviewThe women's bathroom is far away from the ladies' dormitory. The bathroom is quite small. The bathroom has two showers and two toilets. The men's bathroom is located near the ladies' rooms. Generally, the hostel is quite quiet and there is no way around seeing you when you exit the bathroom, kitchen, and ladies' hostel rooms.
