How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The owner gave me the rare gift of being able to fully relax – not just physically, but mentally. I’m deeply grateful to her and will carry that feeling with me for a lifetime. The hotel has a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel at home from the very first moment. The rooms are spacious and spotlessly clean, and the staff is always helpful and kind. Breakfast was fresh, delicious, and prepared with care – a perfect start to each day. I can’t wait to come back. If you’re looking for a peaceful, heartfelt place to stay, Ocean Star Hotel is more than just a recommendation – it’s a must.

Verified reviewThe room was quite spacious and had a lovely view of the water. Staff failed to pick up dirty, wet towels even though they dropped off the clean ones. Coffee cups were never washed. No teaspoons, milk or anything else to make a coffee!
The breakfast was terrible! So little food and at first no hot food! After speaking to the manager some hot food appeared on our second morning. Very limited selection of foods to choose from!

Verified reviewThe staff in this hotel were all exceptionally friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much for them. Grace in particular at the front desk helped with many arrangements. It is not clear why they did not have more guests as everything was good and the rooms all have a nice bay view. They have free parking right at the hotel. And the hotel pricing is fair. I looked at he other top end hotels in the town and one were quite a bit pricier. the other about the same.
The breakfast is the only thing I thing that could be improved as it was a little sparse for a 4 star hotel. I understand that there were few guests staying and they likely didn't want to waste food. When they heard I was vegetarian, however, they immediately adapted the menu which was nice of them.

Verified reviewQuiet great view of T-dock cove. Bathroom was clean and worked great. Amenities include toothbrush/toothpaste. Soap, shampoo and conditioner. Comb and super quiet vortex dryer with cold button was great.
Low water pressure on hot water. Bathroom had wall of glass see through window. Why? The bath/shower has no seal so showering splashes water all over the floor.

Breakfast varied - not hot. But on 1 day it was great.

Verified reviewHotel is clean, the beds are firm, breakfast wwas a good spread of Chinese and western choices. Enjoyed the bath tub in my room and had great water views.
Would have been nice to have English channels on TV. There's a nice spot to watch the sunrise and sunset at the end of the road, but there are some scary barking dogs you have to pass.

Verified reviewDespite the other previous reviews we were surprised at how close this hotel was to the Main Street. We also didn’t experience any issues with the dogs around the area. We could park our car at the hotel and the beds and AC were great quality.
The biggest issue was the shower. It was a bath with a hand held shower but if you put it in the holder the entire bathroom would fill with water. It created a mess each night we had to shower. The breakfast is forgettable however we do understand it may not be easy or cost-effective to source a wide range of breakfast items. The coffee and iced tea was great. A little more fruit would be appreciate. A few minor issues with the wifi but it did keep us connected for a majority of our stay (barring one night).

The wifi is not great, the description of the hotel facilities are interesting as we couldn‘t find the garden, and the bar is basically the breakfast room.
