“The owner is incredibly kind, and we really enjoyed our daily conversations with him before and after exploring Matsushima.
The facilities were clean and pleasant, and the guest rooms are located on the first floor, while he and his wife live downstairs.
The location was perfect, and the owner was very helpful with recommendations for places to eat, things to see, and other tips.
A special thanks goes to him and his wife on our last day, when we had to be evacuated due to a tsunami warning.
They took care of us and brought us to safety further inland. They made sure we stayed informed, drove us around to find food, and helped us find a place to sleep for the night.
This experience truly reflects their warm hospitality.
We will definitely be coming back the next time we are in Japan.
(If you are into music i believe you will enjoy seeing his record collection) crazy 😁”
“I loved staying here! It felt very homely and cosy - the kind of guest house where people say "itte rasshai" and "tadaima" to each other. The staff were very hospitable and added a personal touch to my stay. It seems that once a week, the housekeeper cuts some fresh flowers and arranges them on the table. It felt more as if you were staying in someone's house than in a hostel. It was so easy to make friends, too, and that was definitely the best part!
The place was largely clean, and the facilities were very good. I loved that there was a water dispenser with icy cold and boiling hot water, which was so perfect for cups of tea, coffee (free) or instant ramen. Which, by the way, you can conveniently purchase from a little table in the lobby, alongside other small essentials in case you've forgotten any. You can rent a large towel, but you also get a small free one. There are several supermarkets, restaurants and conbinis close by, as well as a bus stop and a train station, with a train that gets you into Sendai in 15 minutes. The neighbourhood is very pleasant if you fancy a stroll there, too.
I had an amazing time and would love to come back! Please enjoy staying at Hibari Guesthouse :)”
“A beautiful mix of modern and traditional, very private, lots of space and different rooms for relaxing, dining and sleeping - even a massive rooftop.
The owner answered every question and even gave me a big list of personalised recommendations based on my hobbies - thank you very much!”
“There was plenty of space, an excellent downstairs café which served as a guest lounge after hours. The facilities were modern and immaculate. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The café served an apple and ginger tea which was delicious.”
“The property is supposed to be closed in November this year and the state of the property represents the same. The owner has provided everything on self basis but for the price and location wise it justifies the same”
“When I arrived, it looked like it was closed, but on contacting Mr. Foot, he responded immediately and was there within minutes. Very kind and helpful, communicating on Google translate. He even dropped me of at the station the next morning. The room, bathroom and shower was neat and clean”
