“We loved everything! Large room with amazing sea view and great amenities, delicious dinner and breakfast, and an outstanding service from the staff, everyone was always so kind and attentive and they even gave us a cute handwritten note as a surprise with warm wishes for our honeymoon! The onsen was also beautiful and with nice amenities, and we loved the lobby with free drinks and popsicles with a view.”
“The hotel is quite small with a cosy atmosphere, but modern amenities. It lies only a short walk away from the train station. Be aware that you'll have to walk back to the other side of the station to get to most restaurants and bars in town. The reception staff was friendly and helpful, and very proficient in English, which is not always the case, even in bigger hotels. The breakfast was really good and freshly prepared by two very friendly staff members. Apparently they alternate between a traditional Japanese and a Western breakfast, which seemed to be identical ever other day. This might have become a bit repetitive if we had stayed longer. The hotel has a small private open-air hot bath, which is open till after midnight - great for some relaxation after a long day of sightseeing or hiking before going to bed.”
“Loved arriving here after 3 very hot days in Tokyo. The room with balcony, sea views and private outside onsen was so beautiful. It was hot during our stay, we found a beautiful beach nearby to swim and cool off.”
“The hotel is rather remote, which is a blessing and a drawback. Its very quiet, and the view is nice, especially from the communal pool. But if you want to explore Shimoda, you have to be careful not to miss the last bus or be willing to get a taxi. The beautiful Shirahama beach is only a 10 minute walk away, so if you're happy with just chilling there or at the pool, you don't have to worry about getting around. However, there are also only a few restaurants in a walkable distance, and while we usually prefer to eat out to experience the local cuisine, next time we might book our stay including dinner to avoid that complication. The staff was very friendly and helpful, creating a family atmosphere. The private open-air hot baths are wonderful and great for relaxation. The pool bar is a nice addition to round up any vacation day.”
“Beautiful old wooden building that reeks of Japanese history. Wonderful staff, great food and a choice of private indoor or outdoor onsen. Its situated in the heart of the Japanese Alps - we went up the Ropeway and off to Matsumoto one day and walked a section of the Nakasendo Trail the next. Thanks for a hugely memorable weekend in the mountains.”
“I love that the room is clean, essential amenities all available. And it is spacious for single traveller. Love the simple breakfast with good coffee! Easy check in and check out. Locatiom not too near to station, need to spare 10mins to walk to Nagoya station.”
