How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewStaff were very pleasant, spoke good English and were very helpful, organising order in food for us. Within walking distance of citadel (covered in scaffolding) and St John the New although the latter was not open as it is being restored. Made a good base to visit the other Unesco churches. Arbore was also closed for restoration...
Room wasn't quite as large as the pictures suggested. Only instant coffee provided. Suceava is not pretty but this hotel is pleasantly located. Bathroom is starting to look tired.
Thank you for the kind review about Villa Alice. However, we must point out that some tourists, probably you too, consider the main picture from Booking.com for Villa Alice of a 'Luxury King' room (with 5-star facilities, 5m by 5m bedroom and 4m by 3.5m bathroom) as if all of the rooms are as 'Luxury King' type. You chose the “Standard” room (5m by 3.5m bedroom and 3m by 2m bathroom). When you made the booking, you could see 4 pictures of the exact room and bathroom chosen, taken with a phone from each room. The King Deluxe room costs approximately 400 lei (excluding 3% City Hall tax) and offers free coffee from the room's mini-espresso machine and tea from the room's kettle, among other things. The room you chose is cheaper, at approximately 300 lei (excluding 3% City Hall tax) and offers free instant coffee and tea from the kettle. Suceava is not very beautiful, that’s a fact. But the Prefecture building is gorgeous even if it’s still partially under renovation (90% complete). I, the owner and manager of Villa Alice, ran for Suceava City Hall in 2020 precisely with the plan 'Changing the face of Suceava', an exceptional plan that would have transformed the city into a very attractive one like Oradea or Sibiu, but without the support of any strong party at that time, the voters preferred that the city remain the same, that is, less beautiful and attractive, as you have noticed. I understand that you, being upset that the fortress and some monasteries were under renovation (with scaffolding on them), didn't notice that at Vila Alice there were some unique things that I don think you've seen at any guesthouse in Romania: an entire wall decorated with the scene 'The Tetraevangelium of Humor' (framed in a medieval church window) that is, Stephen the Great offering the 4 gospels to the Humor monastery. This is the only representation of the famous scene on a building wall in Romania. Also on the exterior wall (left of the reception) are three medallions with the architects of the Great Union of Romania in 1918: King Ferdinand, Queen Mary (granddaughter of the great queen of England – Victoria), and Iancu Flondor, the main craftsman of the union of Bucovina with Romania. If you will return to the Bucovina area, we will offer you a Luxury King room and our restaurant will certainly be functional. We will also take you to interesting places that you have not seen, so that you will have unforgettable memories.

Verified reviewVilla Alice is well situated in old Suceava. The rooms are clean and well appointed . The gentleman who is the receptionist is an extremely kind fellow and he has a good depth of local knowledge . I have been to Villa Alice on numerous visits over the last couple of years . My wife and I always enjoy his assistance.
I was disappointed on this last visit because the hotel owner allowed someone to smoke on the premises which negatively impacted the quality of my stay. The stairwell/corridor smelled like cigarette smoke each time I exited my room. I do not think Villa Alice owner should grant exceptions to guests with behavior that negatively impact the quality of the property. If another guest had decided to smoke in their room , that individual could argue that the hotel was discriminatory to guests by arbitrary enforcement of its rules. There are a lot of dogs that bark throughout the neighborhood at night. I have noticed this on each visit and particularly this time. I realize Villa Alice has little control over this but it still constitutes an issue which affects the peace and tranquility of the Villa Alice property.
Thank you for the positive comments about Villa Alice in the first part of your review. However, your statement about the guesthouse owner that he would have accepted a tourist smoking on the premises (by the window and with the window open) is completely false and causes us undeserved harm. The owner was on holiday at the time, he is and has been a non-smoker all his life (both him and his family) and he never made any exception to allow anyone to smoke in the stairwell hallway, not even by the window, with the window open. We hope that on your next visit we will communicate better, so that your stay will be as pleasant as it was the first few times.

Verified reviewVery nice small hotel in town. There are anything you need in the room - refrigerator, coffee machine, jacuzzi, bathrobe, slippers, balcony. Most important thing - comfortable bed (but I would prefer a little bit harder). Also excellent location, beautiful helpful staff , which provides more services than expected.
Bathrobe need to be repaired as well as some furniture

Verified reviewA nice hotel in the heart of Suceava. The staff was amazingly nice and polite, the room spatious and the beds comfortable. We had coffee, Tea, slippers and everything we needed.
The space in the bathroom could be optimized (hooks on the door or some place to put your make-up bag). Also, the shampoo/shower gel bottles very hard to use. Just small details that could improve the overall experience.
