Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PortugalThe only minor downside was that the towels were quite worn and mismatched (and that the pillow covers were very yellow).
The room was clean (not perfect, but reasonable) and matched the description provided. It had air conditioning and a private bathroom inside the room. Parking was easy to find on the street, and although it’s about a 40-minute walk to the city center, it’s manageable on foot and there are affordable parking options if you’re driving. There is also a fridge and kitchen available in the common area. Check-in required a small deposit (1000 RSD, about 8.5 EUR), but the process was straightforward. The place was quiet with no noise issues, and overall the stay was pleasant. The hostel is decorated with great art both outside and throughout the common areas, which gives it a nice atmosphere. Considering the amenities and comfort, the price-to-quality ratio was excellent.

Why
SerbiaThere was space between the bed on the top bunk bed and the wall, and I was a bit concerned about the possibility of falling down while asleep. There was some mold in the corner of the wall and I have allergies.
I liked the living room

United KingdomRoom has huge windows with no drapes so the light disturbs you. The music in the common area is pretty annoying and the Serbian guy who works/cooks there is kind of weird.
Pretty clean and comfortable especially for the price. The mural of world leaders outside is one of the coolest artworks ever.

United KingdomNot very social considering there is so much open space. You need your key for everything, including the bathroom, so accidentally unlocked the door on someone else more than once.
Great kitchen space and open 24 hours. Also a big courtyard. Comfortable beds and the cat and dog that live there are very cute. Nice hot shower.

PolandThe shower didn't look very clean. There was no information in the booking details that everything (including the reservation fee) must be paid in cash and in local currency. It was only specifically mentioned in a private message that the required refundable deposit could be paid in cash. As a result, we were forced to go to an ATM to withdraw cash, and it charged us an additional fee.
Very friendly and helpfull staff, good vibes, good location (near the bus station), the ac worked flawlessly. Good, cheap ice cold beer avaliable at the reception. Very friendly cat and dog :) Overall good value for money.

IrelandWasn't aware there were animals (a big dog and cats) in the courtyard of the hostel, was abit fearful of the start but all were very friendly. The room could have more hangers and places to store items
Very friendly staff, room and common area was very comfortable. Having air conditioning in the room during the summer months was a major plus. Hostel is on the outskirts of Belgrade but well serviced by local buses which are outside the door

AustraliaWe found the bathrooms to be a bit tight and poorly ventilated, but this was fine for a short stay!
The hostel is quiet and comfortable, with a great common area and yard. We didn’t mind that it was a bit further out of town, as public transport was super easy to navigate and free!

IrelandIn regards to the room, when they showed it to me, it hadn't been cleaned yet even though we checked in late at night. I did not mind waiting and I am not super strict for volunteers in a hostel but they 'cleaned' it in 5 minutes which gave me the idea that they did not do anything else but change the sheets. This was confirmed by the fact that the room was quite dusty.
The Fair and Square hostel is a good budget friendly option. The man behind the desk was kind and very helpful and check in was quick and easy. The room was exactly what we needed, good size, comfortable bed and there were lockers to store our stuff. The bathroom was private but on the on the side of the corridor and you needed a key to enter. It was very small but clean and the water was hot and the pressure good. Overall, good atmosphere, pleasant people, pleasant common room with a kitchen and basics you can use. The location was very convenient, it was easy to get from the hostel to the city. You can walk if you don't mind 35 min walk but there is also a bus that stops almost in front of the hostel.

TurkeyI personally would prefer toilet seats and door handles cleaner. That's why I gave the hostel 8. Also, if you are a vegan like me, you may not find it pleasing to cook in the kitchen because there is always some kind of meat cooking. You may want to wash everything lol
Let me be fair and honest about Fair and Square Hostel :) That is the kind of a place where you can meet real people. All were very nice and I am glad that I had friendly conversations. Manager Matteo and all the staff were amazing. Thank you all for everything! If you like to meet likeminded people, you will definitely love this place. There are also a dog and a cat which are lovely to meet too! :)

GermanyThe big meeting-room is absolutely fantastic - early mornings to work in solitude, during the day to absorb the energy of the people and evenings to socialize and cook together etc. The area has a lot of hidden gems (cafes, restaurants) to discover, is still in walking distance of the center but quite quiet - hence perfect for me.
