Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaWhilst parts of this hotel feel a little weathered or worn. It always feels clean after house keeping has been through. The staff are all friendly and helpful and willing to assist. The grounds are well kept and tidy. It's lovely to walk in from the dust and hustle of Honiara. This hotel is my goto due to the proximity to Break Water Cafe and Palm Sugar.

New ZealandThe Mendana is currently undergoing a much needed renovation. Good bones, but tropical environments and difficulty in obtaining materials means it has slipped in appearance and functionality. Can’t wait to see the after though!
Good location in Honiara, can be fully self contained with the restaurants on site. Staff very helpful and the most reasonably priced hotel in Honiara for what it offers.

IndonesiaThe communal areas are nice but the room is incredibly basic and run down. Hotel seemed more for business and is the only hotel I’ve been that actually charges for wifi and doesn’t provide a bottle of water to guests. Wouldn’t mind so much if it wasn’t quite so expensive

AustraliaDuring our stay there were various functions on site these often had live music but fortunately didn't go late. On our first night we waited 1.5 hours for our meals without any communication that it could be delayed this was due to a large function on. Some courtesy dishes were provided in leu (thank you) but after finishing it was hard to fit in our actual meals. Eating at the restaurant on the premises seemed expensive for the food available. The rooms are tired. They were always fresh and clean after house keeping came around. The towels smelt fresh but the rooms themselves have mould throughout and are run down and need revamp. My AC was making funny squeaky noises. Room had a musty smell and the toilet seat broken. We requested a portable cot multiple times and it never showed up. Final invoice was larger than quoted amount from Booking.com even after the 2.5% CC fees
The hotel grounds are well kept, staff friendly and helpful. Lower your expectations as it's a good hotel for the area and the cost. It's well situated for local cafes/restaurants (next door a highlight). There is a gift shop on site and you are able to change money at the front desk. Walking into the grounds from the hustle and bustle of Honiara it feels like an oasis. You can walk to central market from the Hotel as well. Overall we would probably stay again.

AustraliaThe room is fine as a place to stay, but some of the rooms are really aged and need some renovations and paint. Quite a few cracked tiles. The hotel breakfast buffet (S$110) is not that enticing and you would be better off eating elsewhere - Breakwater café next door is very good, and we also found the dinner options at some of the other hotels (Heritage Park) were better quality and more reasonably priced. As others have mentioned, the nearby beach is littered with water bottles - which you will see everywhere in Honiara.
Staff across the hotel and in the restaurants are polite, friendly and helpful. Air-conditioning in the room works well, and the food in the Japanese restaurant in the hotel was good. great bento box!

AustraliaWe stayed here at the start of our trip and also last day. Both stays were very good Lovely rooms, nice and spacious. Very comfortable beds. Good location for lovely sea breezes. Beautiful lobby and lovely helpful staff. Arranged a tour guide for us, the amazing Johnny, and also a taxi another day. Lovely grounds and gardens. Would be good if someone could rake the beach area every morning and afternoon. Put a few tables and chairs out, an umbrella or two. It would be a lovely place to sit. Especially late afternoon with a cold drink and some snacks.

New ZealandThe accessways to the rooms are shabby, and there was no elevator, so checking in and out with heavy luggage wasn’t ideal. The bathroom in my room was in a poor state.

AustraliaThe driver of the airport shuttle is dangerous. Drives far to fast without regard for the safety of his passengers or other road users. If I stay at Mendana again I will use a taxi. Please insist that he drives responsibility or get another driver.

FranceThere is no lift, and the wooden staircase to go upstairs would need some cleaning/dusting/fresh paint. Likewise the shower has seen better days, and would need refurbishing.

FranceThere should be a complimentary bottle of water upon arrival, that is the minimum for a hotel of this class. The management should consider refurbishing the old aisle, as they did with the other one.
Despite a delayed arrival (one day), the hotel kept my reservation but did not charge me for the missed stay (I informed them the same day due to my cancelled flight) and I much appreciated the gesture. 2nd stay there and always nice personnel. The Japanese restaurant is a real bonus.
