How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewStayed for a simple overnight layover on the way further south to other countries. Location was fine, parking close to the house. Need to pay tourist tax, and the person quickly came to collect it when asked.
Shared combined bathroom with toilets and showers was not great; male showers only had a small curtain. Place was located in part of town with old high-rise apartment buildings.
Dear Guest, Thank you for your feedback. Please note that the tourist tax is required by law and is always paid on the spot, as clearly mentioned in the booking information. As for the bathrooms and showers, these are shared facilities, which is a standard setup in hostels and reflected in the room description. We encourage our guests to read the listing carefully before booking, so expectations match the type of accommodation we provide. Best regards, Hostel Bratislava

Verified reviewClean room, clean bathroom. Self check in ( if would more professionally managed that would be positive )
1. Parking - in offer was clearly mentioned free parking, while there is no parking provided. We've been instructed to park 2km away around Lidl. 2. Very poor communication with someone from hostel. No answer on my questions. 3. Room are on the ground floor only, everyone can look from street into room, no privacy at all. There is a just 1m away from building a road which makes noise in the room. 4. Not clear instructions how to check in and check out. I just left keys and tax money on the table, so no lock doors. There is no one to talk with ( after leaving room someone could take money )
Dear Guest, Thank you for your review. We would like to point out that our hostel offers simple budget accommodation exactly as described on Booking. Rooms are located on the ground floor as shown in the photos, and curtains are provided for privacy. The self check-in and check-out process is explained in detail in the instructions sent to every guest, and communication is available through Booking messages or phone when following these instructions. Best regards, Hostel Bratislava

Verified reviewIt was a nice comfortable place to stay when you are on the road. It was very convenient that we can come at a later time as well and leave early
It was not staffed. Even though we had the passcode to enter the hostel, we didn't know a room number or anything. We also had to pay the extra city tax in cash but it was not clear who to pay it to. After writing them, we figured it out but maybe this information should be sent to the visitors beforhand

Verified reviewThis hostel offers convenient, budget-friendly accommodation. It's quite a distance from the city center, which might be a drawback for some, but its affordability certainly makes up for it. My room featured a comfortable bed, a desk, and a chair, though the bedding was the most basic imaginable. Do note, there's no air conditioning.
The kitchen is plastered with rather intimidating signs warning of a €30 fine for unwashed dishes. Ironically, there was unwashed crockery in the sink when I arrived. Whether the previous occupants paid the fine, I can't say. I believe more welcoming signage would create a much better impression for guests. The biggest disappointment was the women's toilet and shower facilities. Both are located right by the main entrance to the hostel, whereas the men's facilities are closer to the rooms. Adding to this, the men's restroom has three stalls, while the women's has only two. Given that studies consistently show women's restrooms experience longer queues even with an equal number of stalls, this setup is truly baffling! As for the women's showers, not only are they near the entrance, but they offer absolutely no privacy for women changing. If a woman steps out of the shower and someone opens the door, she is completely exposed to anyone in the corridor. This isn't just unacceptable; it's a significant safety concern.
Dear Guest, Our hostel is clearly advertised as budget-friendly accommodation, and while we understand that not having air conditioning may be inconvenient for some, this is reflected in our pricing. As for the bedding, it meets all hygiene and comfort standards appropriate for this category of lodging. Regarding the kitchen, the signage is there to encourage basic respect and cleanliness in a shared space. We regret that previous guests may not have followed the rules, so they paid extra cleaning fee. The signs are not intended to be intimidating, but rather to set clear expectations. Distribution of toilets and showers is based on building limitations and existing infrastructure, not guest gender. We continually monitor guest feedback and will consider improvements where feasible, but the safety of all guests is a top priority and the current setup complies with safety regulations. Verified reviewThe beds are comfy, the room was a good size, the windows open nice and wide. The shower water was steady and hot. The area is mostly houses so lovely and quiet.
There are 2 shower cubicles and there is only a shower curtain on those and then the main door which although locks them locks anyone else from using the shower. The towels were hand towels really, even at that size would be ok if you had 2 per person would be better

Verified reviewThe lady working there was lovely - helpful and a great communicator. The location worked very well for me walking from the airport when I got in at 9pm, close to a supermarket and bus connections to my next destination. Wifi was sufficient to get my work done. Huge windows to enjoy the cool breeze over sunset and the smell of the pine tree oustide.
Maybe another pan etc. for the kitchen and a second pillow for those of us who like to side sleep.

Verified reviewThe beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. Looks like the pictures! The hostess was lovely. Good connection to the public transport of Bratislava
Not suitable for female travelers, particularly solo female travelers. No toilet paper in toilets, got a bathmat as towel, one of the toilet doors didn’t lock and the other was hard to open/close. Also be careful opening closet doors as the closet is not anchored
Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your stay didn’t meet your expectations. However, none of the issues you mentioned were brought to our attention during your visit, which would have given us the chance to resolve them immediately. Some of your claims do not reflect reality—for example, the lock on the female toilet was fully functional during your stay. Our hostel is budget-friendly with a simple setup, and we clearly communicate this in our listing. It’s ideal for solo travelers, as every reservation includes a private room. In contrast, most hostels accommodate 10–15 people in a single shared room. That said, we take all feedback seriously and will double-check everything to ensure comfort and safety for our guests.

Verified reviewGood location. The room was clean when we arrived. They accommodated our needs for an extra night.
The shower doesn’t have curtain so the water was all over the place and we couldn’t find help to dry it. Was a bit dangerous and slippery

Verified reviewClose to the airport, easy check-in process
Hostel manager clearly lives there. I was in my room at around 7 p.m the evening I stayed there. All of a sudden, I hear someone trying to get into my room - I’m thinking to myself, what on earth is going on. I had obviously locked my door so the person couldn’t get in. Person then knocked, I opened up, and turned out it was the hostel manager and she asked me to pay my tourist tax. Privacy felt invaded - not cool. Plus, I think she had kids staying in the room next to me, with walls with no sound insulation - you can imagine I didn’t sleep much that night. You get what you pay for as they say.
Dear guest Thank you for your feedback. Our manager knocked at your door at around 7 p.m. to collect the required city tourist tax. This is standard procedure and done respectfully. To call this an “invasion of privacy” is an exaggeration. Yes, we are a small, family-run hostel. Many guests appreciate the personal touch this brings. If you’re looking for a hotel-style experience, a hostel may not be the right choice. We also regret that you had issues with noise, though no other guests including you reported such disturbances during that night. Unlike many hostels where 8–10 people share a single room, every reservation at our hostel comes with a private room — something you didn’t acknowledge, even though it’s a significant upgrade in comfort and privacy for the price. We wish you all the best in your future travels. Kind regards Hostel Bratislava

Verified reviewClean and spacious room, shared bathroom in good condition, kitchen has all the equipment needed.
Overlooked the check in time and arrived appr. 1 hour earlier. When contacted the host, needed to pay additional 20 € per person (!) for the 1 room booked. Accepted only cash for that, to be left on the tbale, never seen an invoice or receipt for it. The place was literally empty, noone was leaving the room before us to make any additional work. Basically the total 40 € was higher than the price we paid for the night - and without receipt is clearly just a rip off...
Dear guest, Our check-in times are clearly stated before booking, and early check-in is not included in the standard price. We accommodated your request — outside of normal check-in hours — and charged a reasonable early check-in fee, which was clearly communicated to you in advance. Cash payments are common for extras in small hostels like ours. If you would have requested a receipt (which you was asked) , we would have gladly provided one as it was created anyway due to legal reasons. To later call it a “rip-off” is misleading and unfair, especially given that you received the service you asked for — early access to a clean, private room in a quiet hostel. Kind regards, Hostel Bratislava
