How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Hello Mario, Really glad that most of our guests are friendly and have been friendly to you too. We are currently busy implementing the use of rainwater to flush our toilets, the try-outs go very well. By doing so we are saving a lot of valuable drinking water. For a person who extended his stay three times your comments do not make sence. Would you really stay that long if anything your saying was true? Just be honest ok. Verified reviewThere was a taxi rank 2 doors away. Shops were a short walk away. The host came and let us in, early hours of the morning, as we had a late flight.
We did originally have an apartment each booked, with AC and a courtyard. Not long before arriving, we were offered a bigger apartment with two bedrooms at the same cost. I cannot comment on the original apartments, but will do so on the one we stayed in. The single room had no AC, a well worn mattress, which was sunken in the middle and not fit for purpose. The double room had Ac. One of the beds legs had a wood beetle. There was a pile of sawdust at the base of one leg, which begs the question as to how often the floors are cleaned. We were asked if we were ok with 3 rescue dogs staying on the property (outside). Both liking dogs, we said ok. Big mistake, as throughout the day and evening they often baked. The biggest problem with them, was they took it upon themselves to be our 6am alarm clock. I really don’t know standard verses rental price in Suriname, but this property was certainly tired and could do with some care and attention.
Dear Tony, Sorry to read afterwards that you didn’t like the offered apartment. My impression was that you did enjoy the place and the dogs and everything. Unfortunately you cannot make everybody happy regardless how you try your best. My sincere apologies for offering you an upgrade, wont happen again. About the dogs, ours and the neighborhood ones, yes they bark and say welcome to Suriname. Youre asking how often we clean the appartments? No worries. We clean everything inside and out before and after our guests. Come to talk about clean and cleaning: thanks for leaving 2 garbage bags in the apartment trash mixed plastic, empty beer cans and vodka bottles. It was very dirty and smelling, I couldn’t select the plastic or the glass so I had to throw it all away. We do care and ask all our guest to keep plastic aside for recycling. Another big thanks for leaving the fridge dirty and covered with black stains. It was filled with lots of bad smelling half eaten food, icecream and another almost empty bottle of vodka. Did you forget about these? Beds where replaced and covered with sand and used towels. You happened to use over 8 towels from us while we gave you 2 per person. I spend another 2 cycles washing and drying. I did find the little pile of sawdust indeed under one of the beds and did take care of that immediately after you left. This can happen everywhere and anytime. We are in the tropics. Thanks for letting me find out myself. About the bed in the single room: the matras is actually 25 cm thick and we bought it a month ago. The bed itself has 3 support beams and one of them is supposed to be in de middle. This to divide the weight of the person sleeping. I could’ve fixed that for you in a second if only you would have mentioned it… About one bedroom with no airco: Mentioning things personally is always a good way to make everything go smooth, as we do have a mobile airco and could have placed that in the single room just like that! I did like you as a guest socially speaking. It is what it is. Some people travel the world and leave a good impression everywhere. Some people travel the world and leave garbage and a bad review. Verified reviewThis was my very first stay in Surinam. The shuttle service to and from the airport was pleasant and enjoyable, Gio was a great guide and chauffer. When I arrived at the Guesthouse, I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the surroundings were. The room was immaculate clean and neat. I arrived at 1.55 am, so I did not meet Carolien and check-in until 14.00. She was friendly and ensured that I understood how the calculations was done for the Studio apt. I was given a tour of the facilities and she took me on a little drive of the neighborhood to get familiar with the surrounding roads and shops. I realized Stichting Unu Pikin was close enough to most shops so you can walk or ride a bike to and fro. Taxi was easy to get to take you anywhere. I will definitely recommend Stichting Unu Pikin to anyone wanting to visit Suriname. Gio and Carolien was very pleasant and accommodating. My stay was most enjoyable and I made lots of new friends. Looking forward to my next vacation in Suriname...

Verified reviewReally cosy feel to the place, you get the feeling it's a labour of love to have made and run it. Carolien is a great host, friendly and curious about her guests. Always happy to help or offer advice. It's great value for money given how much space you get and having bikes to hire for 100 srd per day made getting around Paramaribo so easy. The neighbourhood is very quiet but there's still plenty of supermarkets and places to eat and drink nearby, especially Jairoop roti shop for the best roti I had in both Suriname and Guyana. With bikes it takes less than 20 minutes gentle cycling to get into the centre of town. It was also really nice to have all the covered courtyard space to hang out in too.
Mattress was a bit old and you could feel the springs depending on how you were lying down and the bed creaked a bit as you move but I still slept well each night.

Verified reviewCarolien was an amazing host, very helpful, attentive, and understanding. She was always there to assist and guide. The place is nice and cozy with everything you need to feel yourself at home. Carolien helped me with a transfer and to the airport and let me leave my backpack while I was on my trip to Upper Suriname. I recommend this place.
A bit far from the downtown, but with a bicycle to rent or by bus it is fast enough.

Verified reviewThis is a terrific place to stay in Paramaribo. You get amazing value for the cost. It has all the amenities you need and more like a kitchen and a desk in your room, a nice atmosphere, it's spacious, and it has a comfortable bed and pillows. It's also in a quiet area so I slept like a baby. As a bonus, it's possible to rent a bike for very cheaply that can help you see lots of the city and its surroundings. Finally, there are lots of nice guests doing a long stay that add to the atmosphere and have lots of interesting stories and Caroline the owner is full of good vibes, helpfullness, and useful contacts for your stay in Suriname. I highly recommend it.

Verified reviewAbsolutely fabulous the best place to be in Paramaribo ...home for home The area is very quiet and safe regardless the time you come back home as I experimented this during all the time knowing I stayed there for a week,and I will return there next week prior my departure to Guyana. The house is surrounded by lush vegetation,no car noise-knowing I'm a light sleeper and very fussy , with all the amenities which you would have at home from a wine bottle opener,cups,glasses,plates ,soucepans ,cutlery ,wash machine...is ALL there.... and a great WiFi which is stable and never let me down knowing I was doing some work on my laptop. On top of this,Caroline which will be your help and host she will be more than happy to help you with whatever you need as she is very well connected ,kind,helpful and knowledgable in order to succeed in your trip ,knowing I was here for the first time I would consider it as my second home from London as I felt so welcomed!So,would I come again????...yes please book me in for the next trip to be here again next time.
