How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewFriendly staff, good value, nice little pool. You can take crêpes and a fruit plate for breakfast which is great. There are also good dinner options.
There is no separate bathroom so there is a lack of privacy if you are traveling as a couple.

Verified reviewWe really liked decoration of the hotel, and interiors. And room design, it was compact but it’s enough for 2 persons. Also we liked tiny garden behind the room.
Hot water was very limited, but it was ok for our stay.

Verified reviewGood location, the "rooms" are actually small separate bungalows, strong ceiling fan, hot (!) showers, wifi ok, mosquito nets available > get one!
"Private kitchen in the room" was the biggest reason why I booked the place but it didn't exist, not even a kettle/fridge! What a scam! No single beds either > big double bed takes all the space. Stains on bed sheets. In "Jeanne" bungalow the wall holes make a chimney for the neighbour kitchen where the cooking starts 05am > fills up the bungalow with heavy smoke = not possible to rest + causing sore throat, itchy eyes, headache. The staff didn't react much, had a look around and agreed with me. No discount (I did suggest), only I was asked to leave a handwritten feedback on a piece of paper instead of this! Left the place sick and tired.

Verified reviewVery friendly staff who are happy to help organise a driver for the day. Rooms have a private garden where you can relax in your hammock. The pool is small but very refreshing!

Verified reviewAfter a bad experience clearing Togo customs, we arrived late only after stopping the car 100 meters short of the property because of impassable roads on the Google map route. Further compounding a bad night, there was a power outage and the hotel had no backup generator.
After this bad start, matters improved dramatically the next morning. Power was restored. It was a nice room (with a fan but no ac) with several nice outdoor spaces. The breakfast was satisfactory although nothing special and really should have been included in the room rate.

Verified reviewThe desing of the hotel is just amazing. Beautiful decorated, clean, functional and cozy place with all the necessary facilities and super friendly personnel. You could feel the positive vibes. The pool and the small private garden/terasse with table and hommock were our highlights.

Verified reviewSome of the staff were super friendly (Maxim, for example.) When I couldn't withdraw cash from the ATM, staff escorted me to various banks, spoke to bank staff, and otherwise went above expectations. The owner was also very friendly and accommodating. I enjoyed the food and the convenience of ordering 7am to 10pm. The grounds were well kept. I found the hotel peaceful and quiet.
Some of the staff were a little cold and distant. There's no AC and the power goes out in Kpalime sometimes, so prepare yourself for such sleeping arrangements. The lodge is off a rough mud road, so prepare for brief bumpiness before arrival.

Verified reviewIt’s very quaint and appealing. The chalets are set between the trees and the hotel has a terrace with a Mountain View and other lovely seating areas. There is a lot of bird life to hear and see. The decor and rooms are cute too. The staff is friendly and breakfast, especially the coffee, is good. The fans in the rooms are a godsend. It’s simple, with no frills, but clean and comfortable, which is all that matters. It’s popular so book it if there’s availability. It seems Amédzépé is the best Kpalimé can offer. I stayed at a modern hotel in Lomé which was far more expensive and pretty much the same quality.
1) It was quite hard to find using GPS. There are some well placed signs on the roads, but best ask for directions. The dirt roads are especially challenging for sedans and small cars, so take a 4x4. A big car will also serve you well for travelling to the waterfalls and other activities. 2) Small issue; the hot water heater is small so you’ll have to take quick showers! 3) The mattresses are firm (not an issue for me). It’s also not possible to have the bed/mattress separated in the rooms, only an additional twin mattress placed on the floor (for a charge).

There was not a big selection on the menu that was available when I ordered. I ended up having the same meal twice.

Verified reviewHôtel Amédzépé is located near central Kpalime about a kilometer from the street where you'll find public transport to Lome and other areas of Togo. The hotel consists of several well-built huts that have ceiling fans (no A/C), a comfortable bed and a small outdoor seating area. There is a restaurant in the hotel and a swimming pool. My guess is that this hotel is as good as it gets in this price range in Kpalime.
The restaurant is decent, but the wait times for food are ridiculous. I waited an hour and a half for spaghetti with meat sauce. I didn't even know that it was possible to take that long to prepare such a simple meal.
