Everything! Above the Clouds is truly a hidden gem. The views are breathtaking – waking up and looking out over the mountains felt magical. Our room was spotless, beautifully designed, and so cozy. The bathtub with a view was the perfect touch for relaxing after a long day. The owners, Fon and Wouter were incredibly attentive, warm, and genuinely lovely people who made us feel completely at home! Every detail showed how much care they put into making the stay special. Thanks so much guys 🙏😁

Honestly, nothing at all – everything exceeded our expectations!

The name “Above the Clouds” couldn’t be more perfect, the place really sits high up on the mountain with stunning views of the whole city from the terrace. The couple who runs it is incredibly warm and helpful, even giving us the best directions since Google maps doesn’t always show the easy route. The food and high tea were fantastic, and we loved the little touches like the swing in the garden where we would sit in the evenings. The property is brand new, spotless, and beautifully done, with plenty of parking and even reliable WiFi (which I really appreciated in such a remote spot).

Honestly, nothing comes to mind, everything was spot on.

The food was excellent. The views were incredible. The owners were friendly, kind, professional, and respectful of our privacy on our honeymoon. The mountain village it's in is so amazing.

The roads were an adventure, and the last bit isn't paved, but the owner said they're about to pave it.

It was a wonderful experience that few accommodations can provide. You go for the entire experience of living in a remote village on top of the mountain. Everything is well taken care of. Fabulous host.

Interior of the room is simple and functional but could be better.

Fon and wouter were great hosts !! We came for our honeymoon and were greeted with warmth ! The food prepared was tasty and they had a room well set up for a romantic evening for us!

The view is unbelieve , I love Jacuzzi where we relaxed after our trail running but most of all the service of the owners are what I appreciated the most, they are so helpful and really nice. Above The Clouds is not just a hotel but it's where you can relax and rest your soul during your vacation. Worth to spend time at this place. I would recommend people I know to stay at this place.

Just bugs as it's located in the top of mountain and you MUST buy enough food, drink and snacks in with you. The rest are soooooo perfect for me.

Without a doubt, this is the most recommended place in Chiang Rai. In addition to the excellent location, complete facilities and delicious food, what impressed me most was their beautiful hearts. They always thought about us, and every word and action was for the comfort and pleasure of the guests. After staying here, we learned a lot, and we also want to learn to treat others like them. Thank you so much!

The view up there is amazing additionally the was a jacuzzi which made it even more enjoyable! Breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner all included and home cooked from P’Fon‘s mother, very authentic and delicious! Probs to P‘Fon and Walter they took good care and paid attention to details. I felt very welcomed and like home. Thank you again kha, until we meet again!

We had an amazing experience at Above the Clouds! From the moment we arrived, everything was perfect. The view was absolutely breathtaking, offering a serene backdrop throughout my stay. The cleanliness was impeccable, and it was clear that attention to detail was a top priority. What truly stood out, though, was the exceptional staff.So friendly, professional, and eager to make our stay as comfortable as possible. It’s rare to find such excellent service, and it made all the difference. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay, and I highly recommend this dream-place to anyone looking for a top-notch experience.

A unique experience for us, as the homestay is high up in the mountain with good views. In village area mostly coffee farmers. The owners were very nice and drove us to places (limited). We visited Hani Cafe which is very nice, and we ate at the restaurant just across from the Cafe. The homestay provided breakfast and dinner (home cooked meal) which was great. The sunrise was amazing from the room.

We hit a cold spell and temperature during the night was only 10 - 11 degrees celsius. Very cold. The room is unheated. Extra blanket (owner gave us a cashmere blanket) was barely enough. This was the only low point of our stay: we were unlucky and hit a few days of cold weather in January. Also hot water is more like warm water both in the bathroom and the jacuzzi. Again mainly affected by the unusual weather. Because of the winding mountain road, please budget 1 hour to get there from city of Chiang Rai or the airport.

The location is incredible and the view is breathtaking! The couple who run the accommodation are kind, thoughtful and attentive. They have vision to improve the property and they are working hard to make it a beautiful place for people to retreat. The hot tub was the highlight of our stay, so relaxing!

There is some furniture lacking that would have made the room more comfortable. It would have been nice to have a shelf to put my clothes away in the bedroom and a comfortable chair for sitting would be lovely in the room. We also could not get the hot water in the shower to work, which was quite uncomfortable in the cold weather. But none of these things would keep us from returning.

Walter and wife were great hosts. Super honest and nice guy. Absolutely awesome place.

The venue, hosts, and accommodation was exceptional.We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The sunset and sunrise we're particularly memorable and we were able to visit the village and saw women in the traditional dress of their tribe. The view from the bedroom and the shower are exceptional you feel on top of the world Absolutely amazing in every way

Exceptional. Service is top notch, the owners really do look after you. And the views are incredible.

Can be difficult arranging transport to the property, but the owners will help by speaking to any taxi driver for you.

Fon and her partner were very friendly and nice. She told us a little about Chiangrai and the hill we're on. While getting there can be a little challenging as we took a wrong route (please don't follow waze nor Google maps), everything else was perfect. I surprised my husband with this trip and he told me his stay at Above The Clouds was the highlight of our Chiangrai-Chiangmai trip! Being able to spend a lot of quality time in the hot tub while sipping on our drinks and admiring the view (we spent almost 2.5 hours in it!), and ending it with an amazing truly delicious dinner prepared by Fon's mum was just perfect.

Just don't trust waze nor google maps when going there. Look out for the sign when you're on the village otherwise you may end up on the wrong road.

Truly a paradise. The scenery on the way up to the accommodation is amazing. Lots of beautiful nature. We were welcomed by the hosts and brought to our room. The room is very clean, modern and very nice. The outside area has a big jacuzzi and lovely garden set where you can sit and enjoy the view. The hosts brought us an afternoon tea, which was absolutely delicious. Some fresh jasmine tea and fresh fruits, with sweet pastries. Our dinner was an original “Akka” dinner, which is a Thai tribe from this area. It was amazing. We woke up to a beautiful view of the mountains and clouds with a wonderful breakfast. Easily the best experience we’ve had in Thailand, maybe even the best experience we’ve had anywhere. Thank you for the wonderful stay!

There is nothing to dislike. Our whole experience was amazing. If you want the wow factor then this is it. Don’t miss the sunrise. We will definitely book again if we are in the region. The food was amazing so thank you to the mum. Wouter and his wife were excellent hosts. 10 out of 10.
